Trimming the Fat —May 21, 2020

Welcome! While Ikoria did not do Vampires a lot of favors, it did bring in one great Tri-Land and a very welcome boardwipe. I have also made a significant swap to one of the Vampires, and have decided that this update will be prepping for the Commander Legends set that will be releasing later on, that will absolutely have Vampires.

The deck has (and still has) a little fat that can be trimmed down, and I like to think that these changes are helping to usher that in. Without further ado:

Swamp ----------------------> Savai Triome: This is not an Ideal change, and one that I will be playing around with. At the moment, I have had no trouble in producing black Mana within the confines of the deck, and so feel that this is the best swap I can currently make. With the Triome, I can also use it as additional draw due to its cycling.

Vandalblast -----------------------> Ruinous Ultimatum: Alright, Hear me out: We can boardwipe for 5 and hit all opponents artifacts... or, for just 2 more, we can hit all nonland permanents my opponents control. Its NOT a bad sell, but the Mana Cost is far more intensive this time. Thankfully, I don't think I have run into much issues with it when its counted, which is as a late game finisher.

Blood Baron of Vizkopa ----------------------> Mavren Fein, Dusk Apostle:

I begrudingly make this change. the Blood Baron is super good, but due to its High Cost and somewhat non-synergistic nature with some effects within the deck, I am making this swap. I considered swapping out Old Drana, but I decided against it as it was a decent source of removal on a stick, and I wanted some possible cutting room for Commander Legends. At least, with Mavren I can make more Vampire tokens, which is always welcome in this deck.
