My opinions on this deckare. You can drop the 3x Sightless Brawler s and add 2x War-Name Aspirant (The reason for this is even though sightless brawler can be bestowed lategame, he is a horrible early game card in the sense that he is slow and can be gimped by any removal of other creatures. War-named Aspirant though can be raided to the field as a 3/2 and cant be blocked by tokens) and add another Goblin Rabblemaster . I would drop the 4x Chief of the Scale and add 4x Butcher of the Horde . Return to the Ranks is a good sideboard option but i honestly wouldn't run more than 1 in mainboard (personally i would have 2-3 in sideboard) and have a spear of heliod and run 1-2 Rush of Battle . I would take 2x Mardu Hateblade out and put in 2x Zurgo Helmsmasher or 2x Wingmate Roc .
As for your sideboard, Thoughtseize isnt really a sideboard card. Sorin, Solemn Visitor is a great card and is wonderful in MB but you have the theme going so sideboard is good. I would consider Deicide and Deflecting Palm or Ride Down for your sideboard.
This deck can still be fast, but i think changes like i suggested would make it a bit more solid
If you want to run Sorin, Solemn Visitor in MB drop 2 Chief of the Edge to add him

i understand you want a white-focused deck with splash of red and black but as it is i personally find your deck in its current state being overwhelmed easily. that is my reasoning behind all my suggestions
Also as a side note, Even though he is not a warrior Soldier of the Pantheon is one of the best best 1 drops in the game in its current state. the top 3 are Monastery Swiftspear followed by Bloodsoaked Champion then Soldier of the Pantheon

Perhaps you could read my description a bit better Hills and understand this deck more. It is what I put it there for. Then, look through my previous comments (even the ones in the update) and the "Cards I Will Not Use" list. I am not "splashing red and black" in this deck. If you actually looked at this list, in order for the deck to be competitive, it MUST have black and red. Hell if anything, black is the MAIN colour for this deck, especially considering game 2 midrange swap.
I stated in another post why I will not use a one drop. And Monastery Swiftspear is even worse than the other that was suggested.
There isn't enough multicoloured cards for Soldier of the Pantheon to be worth it. I do not want another Goblin Rabblemaster , look at my 3 drop count.
Zurgo Helmsmasher is weaker than Butcher of the Horde . Butcher comes out a turn faster and attacks a turn faster. Not too mention the utility he has allows to win games with him alone, whereas Zurgo can just be chumped.
Deflecting Palm and Ride Down are incredibly lack-luster. First consider the purpose of the sideboard, then consider that these two cards do not fit that purpose. My sideboard isn't for a bunch of silver bullets. Beyond that, Ride Down is pointless when I have a bunch of little attackers, and Deflecting Palm is pointless when I have a lot of blockers.
Deicide is already being considered until meta solidifies. Wingmate Roc is too slow at 5 mana, I don't always get 5 mana, nor do I need 5 mana. The life gain is decent, but both Sorin, Solemn Visitor and potentially Rush of Battle (depending on meta solidification) gain me more life and at a cheaper cost.
Removing Return to the Ranks is probably the best suggestion in that list, as it has never really been needed in any situation. I'll try Spear of Heliod in it's place but I really do not like having another 3 cmc card. Mardu Hateblade is also on the chopping block, however there is no other one mana white drop that is as effective as Mardu Hateblade . In the next few sets I'm hoping for a couple of warrior replacements, but there is none at the moment.

I never go to prereleases DaigarStrasis. It involves using boosters, which is pointless as I've never gotten a good booster besides one with a foil Marsh Flats . That was the only time I ever got anything good. I only deal in singles so any situation that involves opening boosters I do not join in.

I noticed you removed Return of the ranks. Just wondering why?
Thanks

It was really lack-luster letter4tony. In all the games I had, I only used it perhaps ... 3-5 times? Anyways, I only ever reanimated about 2 creatures at most. I have so many 3 drops that finding room to play Return to the Ranks just wasn't happening. Beyond that, Chief of the Scale and Spear of Heliod make my creatures have enough toughness to survive quite a lot of things, and Mardu Ascendancy makes Anger of the Gods and Bile Blight worthless. At the moment there seems to be more exiling than there is actual removal.

Wait.... Why did you remove Obelisk of Urd ? I'm going to use it in my soldier deck.... Is it good or bad? :D

It was bad in this deck NorthernRaven because it costs 6 mana, meaning I generally don't get to attack heavily when I play. This means it is not a bomb, the opponent can destroy it, and I'm left wide-open.
2) I had 2 different types when I removed Obelisk of Urd . Goblins, and warriors. I could only use one of them, so that meant that Obelisk of Urd only buffed HALF of my creatures at any point in time. Which was crap, because that tied in with the fact that I'm left wide-open meant it was always lack-luster. Spear of Heliod come out much sooner, buffs everything equally, AND has a removal aspect to it! So it quickly replaced Obelisk of Urd because of all those benefits.
Now why would I run an incredibly slow card zenny123?

I like Monastery Swiftspear
here over Ruthless Ripper
. Haste is relevant as it can trigger an additional token from Mardu Ascendancy
the turn he comes out. Both of them are humans. Even if you morph the Ripper and manage to snipe one of their big dudes (say, an early Polukranos, World Eater
), that means you would have had to hold him back as a blocker, which is against what you're trying to do anyways. Additionally, it won't take your opponent long to figure out that he's your only morph creature by games 2 and 3.
The biggest issue I see with your deck is the lack of removal. I would take out one Charm and one Spear. The Spear is Legendary. If you draw a second you will most likely be face-palming. The charm is rather mana-intensive for aggro. In their places I would try to add 2x Ulcerate for quick, targeted removal of early blockers.
The 1x Deicide mainboard also doesn't make much sense to me. It's more of a SB card and might just sit dead in your hand.
You also have too many lands that enter the battlefield tapped. You ALWAYS want to be dropping a creature on t1. That means playing a Temple or Nomad Outpost isn't very great on t1 or even t2 or t3. At that point you don't need the filtering as much anyways. The Outpost doesn't provide you with any advantage at all. I would up your Mana Confluence count to 4 and perhaps add another pain land. In the end, I would have no more than 4-5 lands that come in tapped.
I guess a lot of that was fairly critical, but I hope it helps. My Standard meta is largely made up of aggro, so I have had a lot of experience playing against these kinds of decks :)

Monastery Swiftspear is inferior in every way to Ruthless Ripper , UpsetYoMama. The deathtouch is the key part of why Ruthless Ripper is in this build, and it really helps to put a halt to control-midrange builds. Ruthless Ripper can also sneak through as damage, since the opponent will be hesitant to block it, allow to proc Mardu Ascendancy much more. Secondly, I don't really care about hiding Ruthless Ripper under morph. If anything, I'll say that it is Ruthless Ripper the moment I play it down, because then it means I can force 2 damage through in attacking over just one, and if they block I flip for two damage regardless. The 3rd point would be the complete inability to play any one drop on turn one, something I've stated many times before. Having a white or black one drop is much easier to play and is a lot more consistent. Finally, I have hardly any nonpermanent spells, making prowess quite useless. My tribal is warrior not human.
This deck isn't pure aggro, it is aggro-midrange. Hence the sideboard, Ruthless Ripper and Chief of the Scale . It isn't meant to be incredibly fast, but provide a constant board state pressure until I get a winning card out to overpower my opponent.
I'm not running Deicide in my deck, it was a maybeboard card for the sideboard. Now removed because I have it in my description. As for Spear of Heliod , that card is just in its testing phase. The legendary is a relevant hindrance, but then there is LOTS of enchantment and artifact removal in the game, and there is no other buff everything card currently in standard. Shall see what comes up around the corner for the next sets and then I'll make some decisions.
I only have 6 tap-lands, and considering just how many costing cards I have, it is vitally important. Nomad Outpost has granted me the necessary mana so many times I'm always happy to see it. The nice thing about these tap lands is that it ties in with my costing base so nicely that I'm always able to play a tap-land during the moments where I wouldn't be able to play something or use all of my mana that turn anyways. In comparison, having anymore pain-lands is really bad. Since the midrange nature of this deck is prevalent, and even more so post-sideboard, constantly pinging myself for 1-3 a turn is not a good idea.
I really don't like Ulcerate . KTK is really high in toughness, so a -3/-3 isn't that much in this format. The only targets that it would hit that are relevant are Ornithopter or Herald of Torment , Ruthless Ripper is good against all the rest. And once again, that life loss really isn't ideal. It's bad enough that I can lose 6 life from my pain lands as it is, and potentially 10 life in total done to myself game 2 for Thoughtseize .

Fair enough, but a statement like "Monastery Swiftspear is inferior in every way to Ruthless Ripper" is untrue. The cards serve decidedly different functions.

Nice deck, i dont really like the one that pumps the butt of your creatures in the deck, i feel like its not where you really want to be in this deck. also im not a fan of the tap lands in the deck, it doesnt feel as powerfull when you are trying to pump out creatures. hope that helped out! check out my deck i need some feedback http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/21-09-14-JWj-mardu-control/

Have you thought about Tormented Hero in here as another 1-drop? He gets the buffs from your chiefs and is above the curve.
I see that you had Athreos, God of Passage in here, but took him out. Why was that? The trigger ability is very relevant, and it looks like he'll be in creature form more often than Purphoros, God of the Forge .

Chief of the Edge and Chief of the Scale are really powerful bbabcock. They have won me games just by being there. They put a stop to aggro decks and help me get the reach I need against heavier midrange-control builds. As for Spear of Heliod , it makes my entire deck deadly, as now everything I do pumps out a 2/2 creature for free. As for the tap-lands, they are vital in any enemy tri colour wedge deck because if I don't have the proper mana to play my spells, then I have lost. I have a lot of cards that require all three colours, and making sure I get all three colours by turn 3 is vital.
Everyone suggests Tormented Hero Krayhaft. It is a bad suggestion, and it is in my "Cards I Will Not Use" list so I don't know why they keep on suggesting it. As for Athreos, God of Passage , he falls to the same reason Vexing Devil is a bad card. He doesn't win you games because you are giving the opponent a choice to do something that is always something you DON'T want. Purphoros, God of the Forge wins me games by just being there, as every attack can deal damage just by attacking since I'm generating a tonne of tokens with them.
That is certainly not what the playtests show Isntitizzet.

I see now your section of 'cards I will not use", but I see no discussion for why Tormented Hero is bad. Your deck looks pretty aggro-y, and doesn't want to drag the game on for too long. Tormented Hero , being a 2-power 1 drop, will help you end the game sooner, and gets buffed by your chiefs, making him more of a threat as the game goes on. Ruthless Ripper , which it would probably replace, is only a 1/1 for 1 deathtouch. If you drop the ripper face up it is a Typhoid Rats . You can wait until turn 3 to morph it, but looking at your mana curve you have many more 3-drops than 1-drops. Ripper will have more competition for drops if you morph it than if you just regular cast it. You also talk about the 'surprise factor' of ripper, but looking at your decklist, it is your only morph creature. After the first few morphs, and seeing that you run both Chief of the Scale and Chief of the Edge , a smart opponent will guess that you're warrior tribal, and seeing as there are few playable morph warriors in this set, will probably know that anything you morph down will be a Ruthless Ripper .
As for Athreos, you're right in that his trigger ability will always give you the best choice for the opponent. But, your deck is so creature-heavy that eventually even all of the worst choices for you will be compounded up into advantage, at no extra cost other than the initial 3-mana investment. Purphoros, on the other hand, comes down a turn later, and requires you to have other cards in hand to play to get maximum effectiveness. Not to mention that in your current MB, you will never be able to turn Purphoros into a creature at all. At least Athreos has the chance to become a 5/4 indestructible for 3CMC, which is what an aggro deck would want.
September 22, 2014 2:03 a.m.
I made a mistake, you have 6 other red mana symbols on other cards MB that aren't Purphoros, so there's a possibility that he can turn into a creature. But it's very unlikely to have 4 of your 7 out on the field at once.

Look through the updates Krayhaft.
Tormented Hero is terrible. I have nothing that can target it so the fact that it ETBT makes it a really bad decision. The deathtouch on Ruthless Ripper is superb, especially considering the toughness heavy format that KTK will bring. And the fact that it is the only morph creature is a bonus, if my opponent KNOWS that it is Ruthless Ripper , they'll let it through because it has deathtouch, meaning I do more damage than normal. If they do block it, I flip it, kill their creature, and STILL do damage. The morph isn't really a big thing, it is just a small little add on that can help me once in every 20 games or so.
This isn't just aggro. It is aggro-midrange. I spend most of my game just keeping up my board presence pressure till I play one of my many pseudo-bombs, the things that push my board state just that much higher to swing and win.
September 22, 2014 5:32 a.m.
Purphoros is for the added damage when you play lots of weenies, and he can buff ALL your creatures for 2R. Once you get him in play with several creatures, spear, launch the fleets etc. the BUFFOMETER is really pumping. You to not only flood, but flood with bigger creatures. The mid range decks can't usually block that many. This deck seems a bit weak to fliers though. Nice deck.

Flyers have always been a problem Gop, but there isn't much I can do about that as there are no appropriate flyers for this deck besides Butcher of the Horde . I just keep the pressure up and remove what I can against flyers, and hope for something good in the future.

i agree with what someone said above. Athreos, God of Passage deffinetly should have a place in this deck, and Tormented Hero is also sweet. You could play it turn 1, buff turn two and swing with a 3/2. Ruthless Ripper is good, but I would rather have the hero.
