Sorry, thegigibeast, but the creator of this list has reserved tier 1 for "overpowered" commanders, which Sliver Overlord is certainly not. While likely the most consistent of the sliver legends, by the time you're able to cast your commander turn 4-5 if you've really spent some money on your mama base, most of the tier 1 multipayer decks have already won. The following link is to a commander ranking page made by a very experienced duo of Magic players, and is an excellent resource for understanding the highest tiers of the multiplayer commander format: https://m.facebook.com/TopCommanders/photos/pb.304415172981325.-2207520000.1443801779./755993387823499/?type=3&source=42

Ok, I'm fine with this, but how do you manage to cast that Scion of the Ur-Dragonfaster than turn 4-5, since it has the same cost as Sliver Overlord?

Sliver overlord can come out turn 3.

1-drop sliver, gemhide or manaweft sliver, 3 lands.

GG.

Sincerely,

Douchebag sliver commander.

Yea, that is what I was thinking about, I mean, if this happens, then I can easily tutor the queen and her combo pieces and combo out on turn 4. Is that not good enough?

I feel that Angus Mackenzie being tier 5 is just plain wrong. It should be tier 2 at lowest.

I'm with you on this one... TurboFog is also really good in commander, and a friend of mine built an Angus Mackenzieenchantress deck that is REALLY good, nearly impossible to beat...

Have you ever seen an Oona, Queen of the Fae deck? The possibility for near infinite bullshit is pretty good.

Yea, you just need to include a couple mana rocks! Also, add in the new ingest eldrazis, cause they are in the colors, on theme, and awesome!

Yeah. Angus is bad, but he's certainly better than Barktooth Warbeard. I'd say he's tier 3 material. I get the feeling the list's creator didn't put in a whole lot of thought to some of the tier placements.

Question: How is Ruric Thar not higher on the tier list, he is a powerhouse of a card and the effect of dealing 6 Commander damage when people play a noncreature spell is astronomical..

October 11, 2015 2:04 p.m.

CuteSnail says... #11

Commander damage is only combat damage and it also hits you. A commander that limits what you can safely play is not a good general.

NecroPony

Answer: Play Creatures that destroy things as well and have the mindset if you have the commander out: "Is this really worth six damage?" Red Green is known to have creatures that blow up pesky items such as Sol Ring or a commander.

Also Purphoros, God of the Forge's Deal Two Damage to each opponent is Commander Damage so your opinion is invalid.

October 11, 2015 10:21 p.m.

CuteSnail says... #13

That's false. Adam_Kaiser1 your playgroup is feeding you a pack of lies.

NecroPony

Everyone has different play groups... But that's been awhile. I'm just mad that he isn't tier 4, 6 Damage is a very powerful life swing if played correctly...

NarejED says... #15

NecroPony is correct. Commander damage applies exclusively to combot damage. Purphuros is no exception. Neither is Ruric Thar. Purphoros needs to trigger a minimum of 20 times to kill each player, assuming his ability is your only source of damage. If your playgroup has been telling you otherwise, they all need a collective bop on the head.

I contest that Rosheen Meanderer is not Tier 5. Just given the colors and the untap exploring that exists in green means big hydra and fireballs. Not to mention how well she works with Kessig Wolf Run. The only tier 1 gernal i have faced and that wasn't running the commander deck they came with was Arcum Dagsson and she was able to win against it consistantly.

I also think Thelon of Havenwood is at least tier 4. He's super fun and when built around and be decent.

I certainly wouldn't want a basic land at the helm of my fungus deck.

Krond the Dawn-Clad is another person I would like to debate on, but I know why he would be considered Tier 5. He is no Sigarada but I run him in my build to have another beat stick in a Voltron Shell

October 12, 2015 4:20 p.m.

CuteSnail says... #19

Adam_Kaiser1 krond is at worst tier 3.5. You shouldn't compare them to other legends of the same colours but instead look at what he does different.

But certainly not tier 5.

Adam_Kaiser1 says... #20

NecroPony I just think the guy judged them by either bais or how "playable" a Commander is. Krond is in one of my decks as Back-Up for Sigarda because I can do the same things with him, but with less protection. But Exiling things, Yes please...

October 12, 2015 4:33 p.m.

who the hell said Alexi, Zephyr Mage is tier four?!

SHE IS A BEAST, DAMMIT!

October 12, 2015 4:33 p.m.

CuteSnail says... #22

DERPLINGSUPREME right?! I don't think these were judged fairly.

Hell is go as far as saying judging edh generals is impossible. Yes some are better than other in specific area, but if you want to build around a specific general, chances are, you can make it work. Not to mention meta plays a large role in how good a general is.

Sure Karador, Ghost Chieftain can be broken, but it doesn't have to be. And if your meta is jaded, they'll go "damn he's playing Karador, Ghost Chieftain kill him!"

Tier is subjective is all I'm saying.

Just sayin where is Ghoulcaller Gisa she is a beast if u can protect her a couple turns with her and some support and the only thing on the field is her and zombies. I think she's tier 2 let me know what u think.

This is a fun list. I feel you have been a bit too generous with the tier one tag, but that is the fun of stuff like this. I personally think some of my commanders are under-rated, but don't we all?

Angus Mackenzie is def tier one.

I also think you should have an original tier for the Elder dragons from legends.

thegigibeast says... #25

As to what you said about our generals often being underrated Didgeridooda, it actually depends against who we are playing. If I am playing a non-budget deck running a crap commander against noobs (with like slightly modified precons) for sure my commander will look way greater than it is against their decks! For example, my Mannichi, the Fevered Dream is "good" because it is not budget and I am plying it against my friend's Doran, the Siege Tower deck.

Also, the love and investment in the deck may weight in your judgement. If you invested $800+ in your commander deck (if you are like me :), you like to think your deck is the most awesome on earth. If someone was to come and tell you your commander is crap, you invested so much time (and money!) plying the deck and having fun with it that you would for sure have an argument to prove it is good. The truth is, there will always be a better deck. Even if the commander you are playing was considered the best by all the players, it could still be beaten (unless it is Storm Crow which is an all different story.)

I also think it is a metagame thing. I mean, the good commanders will vary depending if your playgroup is really competitive or rather casual. It will also change if your group is running a lot of land destruction or not at all (because running land destruction makes you a bad person). It will also change depending if your meta is running a lot of boardwipes. If not, well trust me that Rhys the Redeemedor Sliver Overlord would be god tier. It also changes depending on the budget invested in the decks in your meta. The list could go on and on...

P.S.: Add a God Tier and put Storm Crow in it.
