EDIT Oct. 2016: Not so many gorgons anymore, as the deck has been tuned to be more competitive than thematic. ...

I wanted to make a gorgon themed EDH deck, but i couldn't decide on an ideal general. At first i was going to use Sisters of Stone Death, but... i wanted a general that's a little cheaper to cast and a little less of a target.

I also like the thought of using some obscure legendary creature that no one's familiar with. So i thought i'd add red and use Xira! There's not a lot of red (nor much green, for that matter... it's largely black) but red does allow for a few things that i feel really help the cause.

Gorgons tend to have high toughness, so this led me to the idea that i ought to make a deck with a small number of resilient creatures and lots of removal and board-clearing spells. Xira herself tends to die, and later in the game i don't generally bother to bring her back - but that's okay. Earlier in the game when i have spare mana her card-drawing ability is nice to have.
