"In the port city of Trest, nothing escapes Edric's network of spies, thought couriers, and familiars. Even the empress of Kinnesta is wise enough to consult with Edric before she conducts maneuvers along the coast. Yet some say that a secret from his youth, over four centuries ago, still eludes him."

Sweet, I'm working on an Edric EDH, but I'm trying to keep mine elf tribal. Using the massive amount of mana from elves to play obnoxious game winning blue spells. +1 Also If anyway would rate my decks it'd be much appreciated.

Thanks from all the comments! :)
I totally forgot Winding Canyons, it should fit right in if I can squeeze it in my budget. I would really like to include Nature's Will and Teferi's Veil but I can't decide what to take out.
Another great dilemma is 'flying' VS 'landwalk'. Creatures with flying are safe from cards like Molten Disaster but creatures with landwalk tend to do more damage. :/

Small updates!
Deck starts to feel pretty complete and most of the time works better than I anticipated. I'm hoping to get some new cards in M14, Dragon's Maze was a big letdown for Edric. Fingers crossed for more 1 mana rogues and instant utility spells!
Avarage manacost 1.54 at the moment, huzzah! :D

Okay, after reading how you want to keep down your average CMC, this might not be a great idea, but maybe Fable of Wolf and Owl for extra bodies and Primeval Bounty for more of the same and some more value out of your counterspells. Yeva, Nature's Herald could be nice for the flash as well.
July 23, 2013 1:49 a.m.
Those enchantments would indeed be nice but manacosts might be a bit too much. Deck has low land count and doesn't have any ramp spells (for apparent reason :D), most of the time I can be happy if I can get 6 or 7 lands into play before someone blows them into bits.
Yeva kinda reminds me of Aluren , I have wanted to try that out for a long time, I'm just too lazy to buy one. It would make every creature in the deck free / have flash, only cost for Edric would be the commander-tax. Negative side being that it also affects my opponents.
July 23, 2013 10:54 a.m.
Good point. I love Aluren , but for me, especially since I'm generally super budget, I would rather buy Yeva, Nature's Herald . You might want to note, too, that Yeva is also a body that can hit for card draw.

I would have preferred 3/1 creature instead of 1/3. Even tho' Drake survives Volcanic Fallout it doesn't do much else. :)
Rogue creatures with avoidance are top priority for me at the moment (because Notorious Throng ), after rogues comes creatures with 'Enters the Battlefield' abilities.

I see. I was thinking of ordering this deck, so I just decided to replace Zodiac Rabbit with Happy the Drake (what I call Seacoast Drake, cuz he's so happy). Not because it's bad, but because it cost $1.50 on , and I already have a drake.
Great job man, I can't wait til I get to play with this one! :)

Even though it's not a tiny creature, I feel that Stormtide Leviathan has a place here, even as just a late game bomb.
July 31, 2013 5 p.m.
As much as I like Stormtide Leviathan , I think it's too expensive for the deck, 8 mana without ramp would be pain. Also, creatures ain't that big of a problem in our playgroup's meta, pretty much everybody else is playing combo of some sort (hence the huge arsenal of counterspells/control :D ).
Some cards I have been thinking about are Torpor Orb (it would ruin my investigator-owls tho') and Grafdigger's Cage but I'm not sure since they only work against some decks and are completely useless against others.
August 1, 2013 9:40 a.m.
Added some possible card additions in maybeboard in case I wan't to spend more money in this deck.
Some mana acceleration. Bird doesn't do damage and Snakes don't have any evasion but they would help me bring extra dudes to the battlefield each turn.
Evasive manlands. (Bl)inkmoth does have avoidance and also dodges wraths and like but in the end it's 1-drop flier with upkeep 1.
More counterspells. Both are too expensive to my liking ($$-wise) and are also conditional but counterspells for 1 mana are always awesome.

I love the idea. I really wanted to play EDH and this decklist is my ticket in! :) I've been looking for cheap decks for awhile and they're either TOO cheap or just barely over. So this is great! I always like aggro and just a ton of minions! +1 from me!
August 17, 2013 4:04 a.m.
Couple of semi-soft locks that worked for me in similar decks: Erayo, Soratami Ascendant and Equilibrium . Casting four spells a turn is easy and although you never have extra mana, Equilibrium can get rid of creatures which might attack you. Not really important unless you play against four or five players.
August 20, 2013 9:52 a.m.
Oh yes, I totally forgot Erayo. Without it's price-tag it would be an auto-include (I'm such a cheapskate). :D
Definitely "Higher budget Maybeboard" material.
August 20, 2013 10:42 a.m.
Hey there, me and friends are thinking of doing the exact budget EDH you and your group are. Your decks are the tits and i especially love this one, massive card draw, evasion, and counters ALL DAY. At a cheap price. Do more of these!

I am in favor of you mainboarding the Meekstone . I also think Cold-Eyed Selkie would be nuts in here! Works for me!
December 14, 2013 10:22 p.m.
Yeah, I need to get my hands on that Meekstone , the effect is so evil in this deck.
Cold-Eyed Selkie is great creature but I like to keep my creatures as cheap as possible. With more creature boost or with some equipments selkie would be insane draw-engine but that manacost of 3 just irks me too much. :D

Hey Fangorian, just wanted to thank you for the heavy inspiration I used making my Edric deck! You can check it out on my page (it's pretty similar). Have you thought about adding anything from Born of the Gods? Thanks!
February 27, 2014 9:55 a.m.
You're welcome! :)
There are few cards in Born of the Gods I'm interested but not 100% sure.
Flitterstep Eidolon - Unblockable for 2 mana with added extra of Bestow. Only problem is that at the moment every 2-drop either has to be Rogue (for N. Throng) or do something special immediately, draw, scry etc.
Kiora, the Crashing Wave - If only she would be one mana cheaper. That -1 is so damn good but for four mana I rather play good ol' Garruk.
Nullify - Hard counter but only for creatures / auras. I have found that against this deck non-creature spells are far more dangerous than creatures (apart from Massacre Wurm or Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite ).

Have you thought about Triumph of the Hordes as a potential win con? It's a bit assy but it would be so easy to alpha strike for ten with this list.

Winding Canyons (Flash), Sylvan Safekeeper (Protection), Wirewood Symbiote (Bounce Edric to safety), Rancor (Mad beats), Forbid (Grief), Nature's Will (Feast and Famine).
