Maybeboard


This is a competitive multiplayer EDH deck. It can be used in a two-headed giant games as well as in free-for-all games.

The deck is designed to be as fast as possible, therefore there is a high number of small, one-mana creatures, part of them being here for mana acceleration purposes, the other part for distributing the damage. The other part is usually hard to block.

The game plan is pretty simple. When playing this deck, one wants to flood the board as much as possible with small and hard to block creatures, such as Flying Men , Gudul Lurker, Merfolk Spy and so on. When there are enough creatures on the board, it is time to play their lord, Edric, Spymaster of Trest thanks to whom the hand is refilled and the board may be flooded even more.

Even though those small creatures are nice, it takes too long to bite the opponent to his or her death. That is the reason why there is included a considerable number of additional turn effects, such as those represented by Temporal Mastery , Time Warp and so on. Thanks to those effects, we can draw even more cards and with some luck chain 2-3 additional turns together, which is usually enough to kill almost all of our opponents.

Hand by hand with the aggro part of this deck there is the control part. Counter magic is not effective against this deck. However, board wipes and targeted removal on Edric is painful and slows the deck down. Because of that, there is included a considerable amount of counter magic of our own, such as those represented by Delay , Counterspell, Daze, Force of Will, Foil and Misdirection, the last four being the most important, as they can be cast without using mana, thus allowing us to use all of the mana resources on the aggro part.

As already mentioned above, Edric, Spymaster of Trest is the key card for this deck. As counter magic may not be enough to protect him, additional ways of protection and re-cast are included. There is Sylvan Safekeeper to protects him and Reclaim, Regrowth and so on to make it possible to cast him as cheap as possible.

Combos & Synergies:

Reasons to play this deck:

  • Relatively political general - in free-for-all games, your opponents will gladly draw cards from their attacks, therefore they will not attack you. In two-headed giant game, you are helping your teammate a lot with Edric's effect.

  • Relatively cheap deck - without cards like Force of Will that are not essential this deck can be considered as a budget deck

  • You like aggro-control decks

  • You get to play cards like Scryb Sprites or Joven's Ferrets and you can actually kill your opponents with them

  • You like drawing a lot of cards

  • You like additional turns

Reasons not to play this deck:

  • You do not like relying on your general

  • You do not like aggro-control decks

  • You do not want to draw cards or taking additional turns

  • You do not like elves

Updates Add

Today I played three free-for-all games with two of my friends. One was playing with control-fog deck built around Grand Arbiter Augustin IV and the other one with Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord who then for games two and three switched it for Kruphix, God of Horizons.

Game one was controlled by the Augustin player from the very beginning. He started and played Sol Ring on his first turn and Arbiter on the second one. That pretty much decided the fate of the whole game as I was significantly slowed down for a very long time and the Jarad player rather focused on me as he was scared of the Edric. The Augustin player would have probably won the game, but even he was kinda bored by his Rule of Law so he destroyed it, a turn later the Jarad player killed us both.

Games two and three I won with ease. As I was not slowed down by the Arbiter I was free to play my "innocent" creatures.

Game two I started with Green Sun's Zenith fetching the Dryad Arbor and played Lotus Petal and some creature. On T2 I developed my board, on T3 Edric came down, already drawing me a ridiculous amount of cards and when on T4 I played Gaea's Cradle the game was over. I also had a counter magic support in Force of Will in case something was about to go wrong.

Game three was similar, though a little slower. Either way, I played Tangle Wire on T4 which was already bad for my opponents and on T5 I flipped Erayo, Soratami Ascendant  Flip which was game over again. Counter support was present as well, though it hadn't had to be used.

I am satisfied, Edric did what I wanted him to do and he proved that he is able to end games quickly and without much trouble.
