What all the 1/1 fliers like Scryb Sprites? Are you trying to trigger draw off of Edric?

Yes Edric triggers and we get more 1/1's and combo off with extra turns and hand refills. eventually recurring Notorious Throng or landing a Craterhoof Behemoth for the win

I decided against Cryptolith Rite because the focus of my mana acceleration is to get Edric, Spymaster of Trest out on turn 2. I'm just not sure if it's worth it to have all my weenies able to tap when I really want them to be attacking and drawing cards. I really don't even know what to cut to try it out though so I'm not sure.

One problem I see is your deck seems very commander reliant, can you win without your commander?

The goal of the deck is to get edric out and protect him at all costs hence the counters and such. Bident of Thassa is the only alternative to edric in the deck. This deck is very reliant on edric though he is low costing and draws our opponents cards so he usually shouldnt be much of an issue getting and keeping out.

I'm guessing you mean Transmute Artifact?

debook454 says... #9

No, transmute artifact cant find an enchantment. I meant what I said.

HezTheGod says... #11

Well the bident is an artifact as well. I think I'm going to add Coastal Piracy I just have to figure out what to cut.

probably too expensive

I would consider it but Bident of Thassa and Coastal Piracy are both in the deck in case of frequent board wipes so I can rely on having a Edric effect out. It is an expensive card at 6cmc but I wouldn't enclude it just because when we need him most (after a Wrath of God) is when it goes away. :/

Any thoughts about Chasm Skulker? It's a bit on the slow end, being a 3-drop, but its benefits offset the drawback greatly:

  1. It gets bigger with more draw triggers. With Edric giving you a lot of draw power, it can get out of control very quickly. Only problem is that it competes with Edric, but it's not a huge concern, imo.

  2. If it bites the dust, you get an army of near-unblockable squids. Your opponents might wise up to it and get rid of the Skulker before it gets any counters, but you got a number of counterspells to protect it.

I had Chasm Skulker in a few of the original builds and I really like the card. The only problem is that I can't find room for it, i wouldn't want to take out a weenie as it would slow the deck down. I originally took it out for Craterhoof Behemoth because it seems like this card would win games vs Chasm Skulker's nice interaction.

Thank you for your suggestion, I just don't know what I would even take out for it

I really like the deck and it really helps when choosing cards for my own Edric, Spymaster of Trest deck. Although mine is more casual as I can't afford a Gaea's Cradle and I want to have a elfball type theme to it. Anyways I only have one suggestion and that would be to replace Skyshroud Ranger for Sakura-Tribe Scout. It is a much better card because you can pop the ability at instant speed.

The only thing that I could think of to keep the ranger in would be to have elf synergy but you aren't running Priest of Titania or any other elf synergies.

hmm very true. I originally had both (and Mox Diamond in here but since the land count is so low i needed to cut. Good point though I had originally kept the ranger for elf tribal but never added the priest because of room issues

DUDE!!! Your list is absolutely amazing, and one I'm looking to build up to eventually. I play in a commander league at my LGS, and everything is fairly chill. However, about once a month a group of spikes show up and wipe us out with their OP decks. I've been working on a budget Edric deck the past couple days to battle the dark side. Thank you so much for your list and ideas! SWEET! Spy vs. Spy Commander Edition

Amazing build, I love it. But have you thought about tossing in Signal Pest? I think that would definitely help pump the all those little flyers early game.

First of all thanks for the comment! :D

I have thought about it. It's awesome thats it's a 1 drop colorless with evasion, but it doesn't draw a card off of edric. If it had a power of 1 or buffed itself it would definitly be in here. Thank you again for the suggestion, glad you like the deck :)

do you feel that all of the fetches are nessisary? I have most of them except for maybe three Also to make this more budget friendly can i not have gaea's, tropical island, capture of ..., temporal manipulation, flusterstorm, force of will, mana drain, mox diamond, and mana crypt. And switch them with cards from the sideboard/maybe board?

HezTheGod says... #23

Thanks for the comment man!

If you're on a budget the fetches are not necessary at all to the central plan here. They do help get Breeding Pool turn 1 which helps and will help with things like Sylvan Library. Replace them with basic's and untapped lands if you can that will keep your deck streamlined and pretty quick.

I would switch land's out for cheaper lands, cheaper counters for more expensive ones, ramp for ramp, etc.

I made a $50 dollar edric list here though keep in mind it is a 50 dollar list. I would upgrade in this order Extra turns, interaction, then lands. You can tweak the ratio of interaction to extra turns but you're going to need many flying men.

Hope I could help some! Thanks for stopping by :)
