Very cool! We've come to a lot of the same conclusions with the direction of the deck! I keep alternating between this and Boros and I just love that this deck is much more focused on what it does.

God damn does it have a bad time with getting blue playered out of games. =/

Sweeper with a body!

Another sweeper that comes with a body. Excellent.

TCG-Player says... #3

Seems deece, but the boardwipe part is quite costly and restricted. I don't know if the body makes it worth it.
Kinda looks like a worse Cataclysmic Gearhulk .

@TCG-Player

How is Cast Off costly and restrictive? 5 mana is the baseline price for sweepers nowadays, and Giant isn't a pervasive creature type.

The body makes Realm-Cloaked Giant worth it for the same reasons as Cataclysmic Gearhulk: they're sweepers that can be used again with recursion and wield Equipment.

Obviously, Cast Off isn't as impressive as Gearhulk's trigger, but each of those sweepers serve different purposes. Gearhulk wouldn't be the cut for Realm-Cloaked Giant anyway. I want both.

@NensouHiebara
I mean costly in the sense that it essentially is Day of Judgment for extra. It is restrictive because it only hits creatures, whereas Austere Command and Cleansing Nova have the option to hit artifacts and/or enchantments instead.

Obviously, I would not advice taking out Cataclysmic Gearhulk , the natural cut (as in card that currently has the same function) would be Wrath of God .

P.S.: Am I mistaken or is Sword of Light and Shadow currently the only way to reuse the Realm-Cloaked Giant's boardwipe part?

@TCG-Player

Sword of Light and Shadow is indeed the only card that allows me to reuse Cast Off. Even with just the one recursion source, it's a lot better than the one-shot spell sweepers generally are.

Hi NensouHiebara, Why not use "Land Tax"?

September 18, 2019 3:29 a.m.

NensouHiebara says... #8

@kraka

I had Land Tax in the deck since the beginning, but gave up on it last year. I was tired of waiting for an upkeep trigger to get a land drop and disliked having a dead card when drawn late.

Its slot is now occupied by Noble Templar.

Thoughts on Tome of Legends ? It's another source of card draw that fits in naturally with the gameplan of the deck. First draw basically costs 3, then 1 each time after that. Not a bad rate for Mono white honestly

@CrimsonWings3689

Tome of Legends seems really bad when Endless Atlas exists. And I don't even use the Atlas.

October 5, 2019 9:38 p.m.

@NensouHiebara - I'm both surprised and not at your assessment. It's better than Endless Atlas to start and over time (less mana invested) but it requires attacking with your commander (or commander ETB) to get additional page counters, so the timing for wanting to draw cards before combat could be awkward if you've exhausted all your page counters.

Atlas is only marginally more consistent in a mono-colored voltron deck, but I would argue against that as well. Mono-colored decks tend to run more utility lands, so there is the potential to pull more of those and not the basics, resulting in you not being able to use the Atlas. The more non-basics you run, the less consistent Atlas gets.

Of the two cards, Atlas is better for non-voltron decks, while the ease of use, cheap activation and synergy with what voltron decks want to do, the Tome of Legends is better, IMO.

How about something spicy with Nightmare Lash ? Just run Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and as you already run Land tutors like Weathered Wayfarer it should be doable :)

And yes, it all works with color identity.

HobbyGamer007 Strata Scythe does the same, it is one card, and it is not in the actual deck, so....

It feels like you have nothing to lose from switching Idyllic Grange with a plains. You can tutor for it as a plains, and you can put a counter on Balan. Also you have 20 plains, so it will almost always enter untapped.

Also Mine Excavation instead of Restoration Specialist ? It's not instant speed, but is that really that important? Also it can't be removed, and it costs one less mana. You have plenty of creatures in order to be able to return two artifacts/enchantments. I'd say give it a try. If you really put that much importance on creatures, then.. eh

@HobbyGamer007

Using two cards that don't do anything on their own isn't a good idea.

@CavemanlyMan

Idyllic Grange's one-shot +1/+1 counter is too low-impact. Cathedral of War offers a similar effect and I don't use it either.

-

Restoration Specialist being a creature is too much of an asset to give it up for a sorcery.

I do focus on utility creatures quite a bit. Anything is better when it's attached to a body.

October 13, 2019 10:14 p.m. Edited.

I just wanted to vouch for how good Sword of Sinew and Steel is in a multiplayer pod in case you haven't tried it yet. Being able to destroy ANY player's artifact/PW when getting through to anyone is super-busted, since there almost always are a few good targets around and usually one person that is open to attack. I'd almost rate it higher than Sword of Fire and Ice in most commander pods as far as the effects are concerned (although I understand that mono-W needs as much card draw as it can get).

Any thoughts on Angel of Finality ?

October 29, 2019 11:18 a.m.

NensouHiebara says... #19

@lil_cheez

Angel of Finality only hits one graveyard. Remorseful Cleric is a similar card that's easier to reuse and didn't stay in this deck for very long.

Hey nice deck, what is about a budget deck? Can you recommend one? Thx dude!

Any particular reason for running Field of Ruin vs Wasteland or Strip Mine ? As much as self ramp is nice, providing 3 lands to the opponents doesn't seem like the play.

NensouHiebara says... #22

@Savaaage

Field of Ruin replaces itelf, so I'm not down a land. One or two opponents getting a free Basic is largely irrelevant in a format with ramp and mana rocks galore.

Mediocre P/T boost but two relevant keywords with the ability to Rome protection all wrapped up with a tiny cmc. I love it, a slot though mow that’s a question...
