I love blinking creatures with Eldrazi Displacer and with the Skyclave Apparition card, i will have a new appreciation for removing my opponent's permanents.
The Skyclave Apparition was the inspiration for this deck because i play modern BW Death and taxes and the Skyclave Apparition's ability reminds me of flicker whisper, which lets me blink out other people's permanents and Tidehollow Sculler, which lets me exile cards from my opponent's hand.
The best part about Skyclave is that I can blink it with Charming Prince & Eldrazi Displacer, to constantly remove CMC 4 or less threats. Furthermore, I can blink Skyclave to exile the token and, since the token's CMC is 0, they will not get another one back, if she dies.
1) The Deck's Backbone:
-
Eldrazi Displacer: Eldrazi displacer's activated ability allows me to flicker my creatures, which triggers their enter the battle (ETB) field triggers.
-
Charming Prince: the Prince is a Displacer-like creature who's ETB trigger allows me to flicker one of my creatures and it will return at the end of the turn. Another benefit, is that i can keep my displacer alive by flicking the prince and then using the prince's ability to flicker the displacer.
-
Wasteland Strangler: the strangler's ETB trigger lets me "process" my opponent's exiled cards into their graveyard and by doing that, i get to give one of their creatures -3/-3, which is enough to remove most creatures on the board and, if I do this after combat, i could destroy a stronger creature, depending how much combat damage they took.
2) Flicker targets
-
Wasteland Strangler: processes exiled cards to give creatures -3/-3
-
Charming Prince: is primarily used to keep my displacer alive.
-
Skyclave Apparition: a brand new card from Zendikar Rising and it is the motivation for this deck.
When Skyclave comes into play, i exile a 4 CMC or less non land card that I don't control and when it leaves the battle field, my opponent gets a X/X creature where X is the CMC.
What makes Skyclave so good is that I can flicker it with displacer, which will allow me to pick apart my opponent's board and allow me to win the game.
Skyclave also synergizes with Wasteland Strangler, as it provides fuel for my Wasteland Strangler's processing ability.
- Thought-Knot Seer: when it enters the battle field, I get to exile a card from my opponent's hand and when it leaves the battlefield my opponent gets to draw a card.
My favorite thing to do with thought-knot seers is to blink/flicker it right at my opponent's draw set, so my opponent draws an extra card and then i choose which one of those two i want exiled.
Just like Skyclave Apparition, Thought-Knot Seer also synergizes with Wasteland Strangler, as it provides fuel for my Wasteland Strangler's processing ability.
- Thraben Inspector: the main goal of my Thraben Inspector is to get some card draw via artifacts and if I don't have any of the other ETB targets, i can blink her for more.
3) Hand disruption:
- Thoughtseize: This was reprinted in modern masters 2, so i picked 4 up and I am glad i did, because Thoughtseize is an amazing one drop that allows me to plan out my displacer strategy based on my opponent's opening hand and I get to remove on the cards which could kill my displacer.
4) Creature Removal:
- Heartless Act: i chose Heartless Act over fatal push because it only costs 1 more mana and it destroys almost every creature, whereas fatal push is limited to CMC 2 or less
5) Utility Cards.
-
Kaya, Orzhov Usurper: I have 3 Kayas in the deck as she creates fuel for my Strangler, she exiles CMC 1 cards which keeps aggro at bay, and her Ult. drains my opponent based on the total amount of exiled cards and i gain that much life.
-
Grim Tutor: I put 1 in my deck to round the deck to 60, as grim tutor is like having a fifth displacer, as he is pivotal to may deck, that the price of 3 life is worth getting him out on turn 4.
-
Agadeem's Awakening
: this is a recursion card that helps me out more than other decks because this allows my creature's ETB triggers to trigger again, so it provides value in the mid to late game.
So that's my deck.
