I recently picked up on a neat trick. Its a kitchen finks combo with Oran-Rief, the Vastwood you can just keep attacking or defending with kitchen finks, as he comes back with persist, tap Oran-Rief, the Vastwood , the -1/-1 counter is negated with the +1/+1 counter. you gain life, and repeat. I hear if quite effective. With ooze, the same effect would take place.

Yeah, I can do roughly the same thing with quillspike and kitchen finks.

The Thornling combo doesn't work and the Tree of Redemption one doesn't work and most of these require 2 Devoted Druid to actually work.

@Rakkhive Okay, I don't believe I presented those combos in the clearest fashion. All of those combos work because they all assume the listed creatures are in the graveyard and Necrotic Ooze is performing the combo. For example, with Quillspike , Devoted Druid , and Thornling in the graveyard necrotic ooze can pump itself to infinity and give itself trample. I believe I will edit the description to make that a bit clearer.

Ahh, now I understand. Sorry about that.

only 2 Pod? I'd throw 2 more in there. It gets your combo pieces with more consistancy.

I think you're missing something here. All the right cards for the combos you mention are there, but you're forgetting that the Quillspike +Devoted Druid combo allready uses up the infinite untaps for the mana needed for Quillspike 's pump ability. To achieve infinte untaps without killing Necrotic Ooze and without having to use the untaps for mana, you need Grim Poppet (or Morselhoarder ) in the yard.

This is isn't really a big deal though since it means that most combos won't actually need Quillspike in the yard. The third one, for instance, should be: "Devoted Druid +Grim Poppet +Bloodrite Invoker =infinite -1/-1 counters and infinite life loss and life gain. You could even pull that one off with Bloodrite Invoker in play, and without it, the other two wouldn't only give you infinite -1/-1 counters, but infinite mana as well. To achieve infinite discard with Cinderhaze Wretch you would also need Grim Poppet , the other two aren't necesary at all. Adding Devoted Druid and Quillspike to it would only provide you with the option to turn Necrotic Ooze into an infinite/infinte as well.

I know I'm at risk of making a complete fool of myself, but i'm pretty sure i'm right ;). And if so, i hope this clears things up for you.

A great card you might want to consider is Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker . In the yard with Devoted Druid and with Necrotic Ooze in play it gives you infinite hasty 3/2's. With Thornling in the yard as well, you could even do it in one turn!! Death Cultist instead of Devoted Druid would also do the trick. Just make infinite tokens using Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker 's ability, leave them tapped, and sac them all for infinite life loss and life gain. You could even consider running Deceiver Exarch as a one off. If someone would, for instance, remove your graveyard from the game, you could Birthing Pod a 2 drop into Deceiver Exarch , untap the Birthing Pod , pod your ooze (or another 4 drop) into Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker and win! You'd need to have ooze, pod, and a two drop in play and have at least 6 mana and 4 life to spend of course, wich might be a pretty big if. And if someone used a Surgical Extraction /Extirpate on your kiki, you'd still be screwed. But for a plan B that requires only one extra card it seems pretty solid to me.

Hope i was of some help and good luck with your deck!!

Oh, and one more thing...Replacing Grim Poppet with Morselhoarder would turn those -1/-1 counters into infinte mana of any color. That means that Morselhoarder and Cinderhaze Wretch in the yard with Necrotic Ooze in play would give you both infinite discards and infinite mana. Pretty damn awesome. I hadn't even thought of that before!

And have you thought about adding Lightning Axe ? It could kill a Thundermaw Hellkite for R at instant speed while putting a combo piece in the yard at the same time. Seems like quite a lot of value!

I wanna know how the hell you get all these creatures in the graveyard......

January 25, 2014 1:54 p.m.

Caes says... #10

@ 40cal : Fauna Shaman is the easiest way. Devoted Druid can send itself there with -1/-1 counters. Similarly, Thornling can give itself +1/-1 until it dies. Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord can send creatures to the grave to hit opponents. Grisly Salvage sends what I want to the graveyard and puts what I need in my hand. Birthing Pod is another incredible way to get what I want while putting creatures in the graveyard. In a downright worst case scenario, I can always Inquisition of Kozilek myself.

40cal says... #11

Ik most of those but did not think of -1/-1 oneself i understand i wanted to point out that why add Grim Poppet if he's 7 mana and sucks?

January 25, 2014 4:50 p.m.

Caes says... #12

40cal Grim Poppet is actually quite amazing in this deck. It is in the deck as a 1 of to be discard fodder for Fauna Shaman . When it and Devoted Druid are in the graveyard, Necrotic Ooze becomes the single great board wiper ever. The ability to put a -1/-1 counter on itself and then move it to another creature at instant speed allows me to instantly wipe my opponents creatures and to instantly kill any creature they play afterwards as soon as it hits the board.

Hmm, that seems pretty good. I'll have to try it for a bit and see how it plays, thanks.

Prognostic Sphinx lets you search for Ooze if you don't have it, fills your graveyard when you have it and protects the Ooze. Could be nice as a 1-of.

Rakkhive says... #16

C7081 that card isn't in his colors and all it does is scry 3 when it attacks. Something like Jarad's Orders would be more appropriate.

May 20, 2014 11:29 a.m.

C7081 says... #17

Well he could just not cast it and only use it with the Ooze for the protection and discard effect, which Jarad's Orders can't do. Currently the opponent just needs to save his Path to Exile for the Ooze, unless there's both the combo in the grave and Jarad on the field.

Rakkhive says... #18

Well he runs Thornling for some protection, something like Thrun, the Last Troll would be better for the hex proof in comparison to the Prognostic Sphinx

May 20, 2014 11:40 p.m.

Caes says... #19

C7081 I agree the sphinx would be great in terms of its ability to fill my graveyard and protect the ooze. However, it isn't worth hassle of adding a third color.

as far as regen, in color. Lotleth Troll could allow you to discard as well as regen. and even the Erebos, God of the Dead would let you draw cards

Caes says... #21

derecksisco I have been strongly considering Lotleth Troll . What would you recommend taking out for some?

June 3, 2014 1:29 p.m.

derecksisco says... #22

Call me crazy but with the druid, Birds of Paradise seems slightly redundant. I honestly couldn't give you an accurate sub-out simply because there isn't any fluff in the deck. You could shave your, quillspike, shaman, and druid to three, and then put in three lotleth's. I say that because it seems that once you get one in the graveyard, the other ones become redundant.

Caes says... #23

derecksisco I think I'll take you up on that and call you crazy. It isn't readily apparent unless you have played this deck some, but having birds turn 1 speeds up the deck tremendously. You're right in that there is not really any fluff in the deck. Fauna Shaman is easily the most powerful card in this deck (other than Necrotic Ooze ) because of the tutor/grave-fill effect and I definitely want to see one every game. Because Devoted Druid and Quillspike can combo on the battlefield as well as in the grave, I like having as many copies as possible. Taking all this into account, I have decided to move the maindeck Duress and Inquisition of Kozilek to the sideboard in favor of two Lotleth Troll s. The trolls increase the possibility of a turn 3 or 4 win as well as up the aggro abilities of the deck.

I had no idea anybody else had a deck like this, I didn't base mine off of anything. This just happened to be what I considered one of the coolest combos I had come across. One of my friends had a Thornling in his card binder and the idea just clicked. We both use the same combo but still have very different decks. With some suggestions that I had received, I moved mine towards a bit more control which also makes sense for the meta I generally play in.

Unlike yours I use Pack Rat and Lotleth Troll as beaters to hold back until I can combo with support from control cards.

My specific suggestion would be to possibly sideboard a few Maelstrom Pulse s to destroy whatever you may need to.

+1 Love the idea as you obviously saw with my deck. I really liked the Birthing Pod !

I love the idea behind this deck would you mind taking a look at my deck? Red Blue Self Draw
