Had something like this, then someone played Blind Obedience and it didnt turn out to well. Might want to throw some noncreature destroy into the side board

That's a good point! I'll definitely side board some, thanks!

Looks really fun to play. Could you give us some info about some matchups? +1.

The biggest issue this deck has is control matchups. While it's fast, hard to run out of fuel, and generally reliable, control can counter what makes this deck most effective: Athreos. Other than that, it usually doesn't have too many issues as most decks don't have a good way of combating the combo.

Terminate is an instant, but you say you rarely have open mana. In that case Dreadbore might be a better option. Also thinking about Mortify. It costs 1 more, but that 1 more could really save your ass from idk, any devastating enchantment (Night of Souls' Betrayal for example). I've been studying modern Mardu and one of the things I love about it are these versatile removals. Your opponent could easily be running creatureless.
Other than that, amazing aggro twist. Sounds really fun, and it is probably hard for your opponents to restrain from slapping you in the face lol. Good deck!

Not like you couldn't counter it with a Death Pit Offering

Kolaghan's Command has some utility here as it can get a creature back, kill something, burn an opponent, destroy an artifact, or you could make an opponent discard a card. It may end up costing too much mana though.

I never thought about combining Athreos with suicidal elementals. Great find.

AngryTeaKettleAlthough he usually won't have open mana for Insta-Terminate a creature, I think he should keep it instead of Dreadbore, simply because Splinter Twin.
This one's probably one of the worst match-ups of this deck. Without Terminate on it, he'll end up depending totally on Path to Exile to stop it, assuming they try to combo on Deceiver Exarch.
I don't think there are a lot of PWs that would make trouble for this deck too. Liliana of the Veil will probably die on a swing if need be, Ajani Vengeant will Helix something and die, or just lock something and die...
Karn Liberated is probably the only PW that could really make trouble to this deck. But since Twin is more popular than Tron right now, I'd stick with Terminate.
Sorin, Solemn Visitor would also be a kick in the nuts, however, Orzhov Tokens is also less played than Twin.
Of course it all depends on the local field. If there are a lot of Tron and Orzhov Tokens compared to Twin, than Dreadbore might be a better choice.

Never thought to use quickdrops with Athreos, +1 for ingenuity

Have you considered Dark Confidant one of this decks biggest weaknesses seems to be running out of steam against control Confidant could help offset that
April 25, 2015 12:13 p.m.
AngryTeaKettle I think Dreadbore is definitely worth considering!
Username_1 While I have considered him, usually the threat of an extra 3 damage from Athreos is able to keep my hand full, and the unearth abilities also help give me another turn of attacking.
Nef I have taken a look at some of those options, but the graveyard ability is a bit slow with Athreos, and the others aren't as relevant as some other cards. And yeah, it just takes up too much mana to really be considered.

Porphyry Nodes is probably a bit too slow for this deck. You'd be better off with Lightning Bolts. You really do need to squeeze 4x Lightning Bolts in here some how. I'd drop Idyllic Tutor to 2x and just run a 4th Athreos, God of Passage, then drop Dreadbore to 2x as well and that gives you room for 4x Lightning Bolts. Small tweaks, but they'll make the deck more consistent and potentially faster as well. Purphoros, God of the Forge might be interesting in here, though only as a 1 of or so for potential longer games. Sweet idea for a deck though, I love the interaction with Athreos, God of Passage and the elementals. Lots of fun!

I already own half this deck and figure I may as well throw it together, how well do you find it works?
May 11, 2015 11:06 p.m.
Nixin72 It's not a very expected deck, so not many others have the proper tools to defend against the quick, heavy damage, but I've found the largest problem it has is with counter magic. Most of its value comes from Athreos, so when you can't get him onto the battlefield you can run out of fuel pretty quick. Other than that, it usually outpaces fast aggro decks, has enough fuel to get through more midrange types, and is again fast enough for things like ramp and big drops.
Saljen I've found Porphyry Nodes to be very effective against tokens and can be a much more extended threat than Lightning Bolt, but I'll swap some in and see the differences. I run more Idyllic Tutor because it's never really a dead card whereas if I have two Athreos in hand it's just a waste. Purphoros could definitely hold some potential, I just worry he might not quite fit in with the curve. Thank you for feedback!

Well that works out well then, cause my entire meta is basically aggro. How does it fair against life gain? I.e.: Daybreak Coronet, Spirit Link?
May 12, 2015 9:51 p.m.
i think maybe Blood Artist and Fallen Angel would fit into this deck very nicely

my suggestion is to cut anything that dosnt cause direct damage and add lightning bolts and other burn cards. your basicly a burn deck with creatures and athreos is your long game plan. just an idea though

Loved the deck! Want to buy it for sure. I suggest the new Lightning Skelemental instead of Ball Lightning . Less stress on your mana and makes the opponent discard 2 cards. Cheers!

This is probably the first modern deck that's ever actually made me want to play modern.
