Maybeboard

“who wishes to fight must first count the cost”

My first and currently only commander deck that I have been upgrading for a while without spending too much at any one time. I need help moving cards from maybeboard to main board and vice versa as well as identifing cards to swap out for the tutors when this becomes needed.

  • You like controlling the board

  • You like having an impactful commander

  • You like leaving your opponents with no meaningful options

  • You enjoy death without taxes

  • You hate creatures but love tokens

  • You love drawing cards

  • You don't want to cast your commander

  • You prefer threats to answers

  • You enjoy aggressive strategies

  • You're playing cEDH

  • You like combos

  • This deck tries to gain value from sacrificing tokens to pump Elenda, letting her "bloom" into an army that lets us do it all again. Whilst by itself this only gains us one token per cycle, it can quickly get out of control with a bigger payoff - playing somewhat like a storm deck.
    • The deck, like a lot of aristocrat strategies, needs a free sac oulet; a payoff for sacrificing; and sacrifice fodder. If none of these are drawn, it can be dead in the water. The idea is to play a controlling role until this trinity can be assembled, but this doesn't always work.
    • Exile wraths can hurt a lot, especially in conjunction with graveyard hate.
    • No tutors. I have not added any tutors to the mainboard yet to keep the power level of the deck in check. Advice on what cards to replace with tutors when the meta becomes more powerful is appreciated

    • Bad mana base/suboptimal cards: Deck has been built on a budget, several cards have gone up in value a lot since being purchased so the total price doesn't reflect that as much as it might.

    • No Sol Ring: I dislike the variance and "free wins" it provides. This is a personal choice, replacing Prismatic Lens or a land is very much optimal.

Ramp into Elenda, ideally on turn 3, and start building an engine. A free sac outlet at this point is ideal to "protect" Elenda from exile. Viscera Seer , Carrion Feeder , Ashnod's Altar , etc. are good things to get down. Politics at this stage can be hugely valuable, the deck takes a while to get rolling and is difficult to stop once it does - scapegoating another player is optimal, being targeted can be game over.
Assemble an engine and start accruing value. A way to get tokens repeatably is very powerful, this can be accomplished with Elspeth, Sun's Champion , Oketra's Monument . Gift of Immortality is especially powerful here.
Build up an unbeatable boardstate by repeatedly cycling Elenda through the graveyard with one or more ways to make the gain in tokens multiplicative. Teysa Karlov and Blade of the Bloodchief are incredible in this role. Pitiless Plunderer can give you huge amounts of mana. Anointed Procession , Requiem Angel and Cathars' Crusade are also very strong in this role.

Reanimate Elenda often to maximise the effect of these. Under optimal conditions, you can make each creature you begin with into 115,968 with a single reanimation spell and Elenda. Whilst this is unlikely to happen, a multiplier in the hundreds is more than achievable.

Ideally, have a source of card advantage out at this point to find ways to win that game whilst doing this. Dark Prophecy , Skullclamp , Smothering Abomination , Mentor of the Meek , Harvester of Souls , God-Eternal Bontu and Corpse Augur are all good for this.

Then end the game by swinging or draining your opponents out with Zulaport Cutthroat and Blood Artist .

Most hands with lands of multiple colours and spells are keepable. Fixing is limited to only having one colour in the opener can doom you. More powerful hands have some of the trinity in them and ramp to get Elenda a turn early.
I have tried to avoid combos, but there are still some
    • Tragic Arrogance + Elenda. Selecting a tapped creature for an opponent to keep very often allows Elenda to deal lethal commander damage after this resolves.

    • Vesperlark + Reveillark . Reanimating the latter can return Elenda and the former, doubling the effectiveness of your spell.
