Oh, didn't look at your sideboard.

Oh man that sideboard is dirty!

March 27, 2014 10:06 a.m.

BattleWalrus, I really like your list! Great deck...

yeah, Abundant Growth has been a pretty darn good card. It really helps fix the mana (as it started as mono-green, then splashed blue, then white :) The white actually started simply wanting to have Horizon Canopy in the deck for the ability to cycle it; but as you know what is the best side-board color there is!

The Umbral Mantle + Elvish Archdruid combo has won me several games. It's kinda one of those "come from no where and win" type wins. You really don't want to play more than two though (as while Umrbal Mantle is a good mana sink for some situations where you don't have Elvish Archdruid it's really only worth it if the Archdruid is there...)

One card I did want to try out that is in your list is Joraga Treespeaker ....I was thinking of putting in 2 of them in the build....have they performed well for you?

March 27, 2014 10 p.m.

I've actually quite liked both Joraga Warcaller and Joraga Treespeaker in here (in certain numbers) Prima...great suggestions.

I've actually put together a slightly different build involving both of them...I will put it up soon (assuming it continues to test as well as it is :) Thanks for your help!

The treespeakers have worked wonders for me. Alas, its a big target and is the reason I bumped the lightning graves count to 3 from 2. im thinking I might want to just do a split of heritage and treespeakers. ill have to play around with it.

March 27, 2014 11:48 p.m.

Yeah....I just replaced the Llanowar Elves with Joraga Treespeaker 's for now. Seems like a pretty reasonable trade (given that I already have four Elvish Mystic 's. We'll see how it goes!

Wait...why did you switch Lightning Greaves for Swiftfoot Boots ?

March 28, 2014 12:25 a.m.

Hey Vito1014!

I switched out Lightning Greaves for Swiftfoot Boots because in the scenarios where you equipped Lightning Greaves to Elvish Archdruid before Umbral Mantle (i.e. if you had it a turn or two earlier, etc.) you would have to un-equip it before equipping the Umbral Mantle (because Shroud will not allow you to target him....in these scenarios, there is a small window of priority where the opponent can destroy the Elvish Archdruid with a bolt, path, or really anything they have that will do the job :)

GOTCHA! I knew there was something I was missing. Might have to switch mine out lol

March 28, 2014 12:38 a.m.

Added Joraga Warcaller in place of one Abundant Growth for an additional win-con/pump....would love to add a second; but have to see if this is possible....

I have an odd brew with an additional "combo" in it that I am trying out; but it is a little "out there" and may not make the final cut :) I'll post it regardless (as either a new/different deck or in this one).

As of right now though, I am happy where this is at! Gotta keep testing though :)

Your sideboard is amazing! I love seeing the shit you 2 brew up. +1 for me of course.

March 28, 2014 11 p.m.

Vito1014....yeah, I didn't realize how powerful he was until I saw it in your Elf Deck (Elf Beatdown Revamped...if you haven't seen it...DO! It's awesome)...he can win games all by himself :) I want to add a second; but I have to test to see what can be taken out in its place.

Thank you so much LordOfMishap....we LOVE brewing, and try to come up with slightly "novel" ideas that can still be competitive; but it's tough with so many great brewers out there...I've seen a couple of your decks as well on here, and they are aweomse...Mindshrieker Holocaust is unreal...

Maybe a Utopia Sprawl for your enchantment because it increases the mana you make instead of choosing what mana to make.

There's an Elf Infinite Mana combo floating around that would work perfectly in this deck. It require -1 counters, an Untap effect and and Elf that gives itself -1 counters for tapping. I'll let you guys work the rest out. But I've built modern elves and it's just a heavy hit with lots of elves using Nissa to stall for life. :3

March 30, 2014 1:25 p.m.

Hey ViorOdinson! The only think I can think of is Devoted Druid and Melira (or some other means of removing the counter) with something like Intruder Alarm to untap them when a creature is created with things like Presence of Gond ....of course Presence of Gond and Intruder Alarm are a combo in and of themselves....I'll have to look into it for sure! Thanks! If it is a three-card combo, it would be tough to fit in here and not throw of the other lines to winning...

In my opinion, the best decks are those that have an aggro line to win, but also have the ability to "go infinite" (so that the opponent always has to respect the combo). It just makes for a tougher game for the opponent...so if the combo fits in here; I'd love to add it! It never hurts to have two infinite combos :)

I can't wait to see your deck! I love Nissa Revane ...she was originally in the main board of this one (I actually even had Nissa's Chosen as well because they go really well in a devotion build (as they are basically free with a Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx )...so I'm really excited to see your deck....I have no doubt it will be +1!

March 30, 2014 2:37 p.m.

lunarman1995....I love Utopia Sprawl and it's crazy ramping ability with Arbor Elf ...they actually were both in the deck for months (before the splashing of white)...given the current build, however, I have only 6 Forests in the entire deck and Utopia Sprawl has to enchant a Forest ...so there would just be too many hands where I couldn't play the Utopia Sprawl when I wanted....that, and the card draw ability is EXTREMELY important in this deck. Most green decks (especially devotion decks) run through their entire hand quickly (as they have so much mana) and then basically get to "top deck" mode as I call it if they haven't won...If you look at my Devotion to Green (Modern) (NEW), I follow this idea with several decks (that has a bunch of card draw in it too).

Between it's ability to fix mana, draw a card, and add devotion; Abundant Growth is actually a pretty great card in this deck...it is kind of the "odd man out" in terms of going "aggro", etc.; but I promise if you played the deck you would see instances where you are VERY glad you had an Abundant Growth (especially when you go 5-6 turns with a Horizon Canopy that would have cost you 5-life but doesn't :)

Having said this, you are absolutely right that Utopia Sprawl is a traditionally better card for a mono-green deck (especially with Arbor Elf )...this is a great suggestion!

Nice deck idea, its good to see a modern deck that isn't just counterspells. On the note of your goldfish hand though, I think you may be one mana short. You can't cast Abundant Growth and get the card draw, but other than that it all works out, just means that Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx won't genesis wave for as much.

Also just a few things Melira, Sylvok Outcast and Devoted Druid don't combo together. I'm not sure if you were saying they did or not, but worth mentioning. (for anyone wondering why, Melira says "your creatures can't have -1/-1 counters put on them" and the cost for untapping devoted druid is to put a counter on it, not part of the ability).

If you did want to use Presence of Gond you could run Midnight Guard - these two can make infinite elves.

But yeah, awesome deck, +1 from me.

April 2, 2014 9:52 p.m.

enpc...you're right...Devoted Druid would not even be allowed to utilize the ability with Merlira on board (as it would break the "you can't have -1/-1 counters placed on your creatures...." rule)....good call! The Devoted Druid combo actually takes a card called Quillspike ....it's a really cool combo; just doesn't fit into this deck.

I don't know what you mean when you say, "You can't cast Abundant Growth and get the card draw...." as drawing a card is the ETB effect of Abundant Growth ; but I think I honestly am just misunderstanding what you were saying...I'll check the math again and it will probably pop out and make sense...thanks for checking!

I actually just made a small change to the deck and would love to hear your thoughts (as well as anyone who wants to chime in). I removed one Genesis Wave , one Heritage Druid , and both Joraga Warcaller and added in three Viridian Joiner .

The reason for this is that Viridian Joiner is another infinite combo. It's actually easier to do than Elvish Archdruid as it just requires the Umbral Mantle and two additional mana:

  1. Equip Umbral Mantle to Viridian Joiner
  2. Tap Viridian Joiner for one mana.
  3. Use additional 2-mana (now three floating) to trigger Umbral Mantle
  4. Viridian Joiner is now 4/5 and taps for 4 and untaps for 3...infinite combo.

In this case, I feel Viridian Joiner is superior to Joraga Warcaller ...I won't go into too many reasons (as this would become quite large); but given the fact that this is more of a "combo" build; I think this will pay off. I will not know this for sure until I actually test it though....but I'd love to see outside thoughts about it.

Yeah, the Quillspike + Devoted Druid combo is nuts, I have a friend who runs it it an all out 40 card deck.

What I meant by the comment was you wont be able to generate enough mana that turn to cast the Abundant Growth . You will have two mana (for the Coiling Oracle ) and then will get one more (from the Breeding Pool ) which you use to cast Heritage Druid . You unfortunately can't use the mana from Elvish Mystic as you need to tap him and the other two to produce the triple green to cast Elvish Archdruid .

One card I would highly recommend is Gilt-Leaf Archdruid - He is just broken. And with most of your elves being druids, both his first and second abilities are more than relevent.

Its expensive to cast but you could even look into Akroma's Memorial as it gives all your creatrues blanket haste / makes them Lightning Bolt /Doom Blade proof and the trample and flying are just gravy.

Another card you could also consider is Cloudstone Curio . With ways of giving mana elves like Elvish Archdruid haste, they can cycle between each other for infinite mana. And you can cycle between Elvish Visionary and another creature for card draw.

As for Viridian Joiner - he is an awesome card and combos really well with Umbral Mantle as said. I definately like the combo.

April 2, 2014 11:52 p.m.

enpc....I love Gilt-Leaf Archdruid ....it was actually one of the original win-cons of this deck! Oddly enough....Akroma's Memorial was also in the original build too :) It is a great idea...off of a Genesis Wave it pretty much ends the game.

Gilt-Leaf Archdruid is a great card...it is a win-con all it's own (as it can steal all their lands) and is a HUGE card-draw engine....the only reason he didn't stay in was because he is a 5-mana investment that can be killed with a Lightning Bolt ....he just seemed too killable for his cost....also; many times you had to tap down a bunch of elves to cast a Genesis Wave so you can't immediately "land-steal" after the wave....having said this, it is a GREAT card and also a FUN card....I have built another deck around him (I need to put it up here); but I will test with it again given some of the changes made to the deck....What would you suggest to take out in his place? Garruk?

Cloudstone Curio is REALLY fun (especially with Heritage Druid and Nettle Sentinel )....I've said it a thousand times; but this is what makes elf-decks soooo hard...there's TOO MANY great cards that you can't use them all!

Thanks for your help thus far. I'm definitely going to re-try Gilt-Leaf Archdruid again just to see if it's worth it...I actually have been looking into transformational side-board options; and he seems like the perfect fit against control decks and more control heavy decks....idea ideas!

You may be able to cull 1xElvish Visionary and 1x Garruk Wildspeaker to add 2 Gilt-Leaf Archdruid s. Or at least make room for him on sideboard. As far as him being Lightning Bolt -able, it shouldn't be a too much of a problem since at five mana you will most likely have an Elvish Archdruid in play (hopefully) and then they have to waste 2 Lightning Bolt s or a Path to Exile to make him go away.

Also, have you considered either Gaea's Herald (on the theme of elves) or Leyline of Lifeforce as it punishes counterspells. They would both be sideboard cards but worth having on your person, just in case.

What about adding the jorga war-caller so the gilt-leaf arch druid gets permanent counters in case some one takes out the elvish arch druid

April 3, 2014 8:44 a.m.

These are great ideas enpc and GreenHorn....I'm testing all night tonight and will be trying all kinds of assortments to see what works best....I had one with Elvish Champion in it that destroys Pod decks; but the goal is to make sure the sum of 75 competes against the top 8 decks in the meta so I can start playing dailies with it :). Thanks so much for your continued help!

April 3, 2014 6:23 p.m.

Removed one Forest for a Craterhoof Behemoth ....I found in many games (a) I had more land than I needed basically any time after 3 lands and (b) that I really missed stealing games with Craterhoof Behemoth :) If I find I am getting mana-screwed with any regularity; I will add a Forest back in and remove one Heritage Druid .
