I'll playtest around a bit but the Omenspeaker just seems like too small of a body. Anything that can't kill it I can probably already kill with Magma Jet or Izzet Charm , The Hover Barrier can block a lot more things especially flying creatures for only one extra mana. Voyage's End might work as a stall card and scry.. I'll consider it

Lord007 i can second Voyage's End if youre considering a bounce card. That scry is perfect at a time when you need to get your combo together. I used it to great effect in my dimir mill deck to help find Duskmantle Guildmage and Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker .. I think i would mainboard Murmuring Phantasm though, and sideboard the Hover Barrier so you can set up defenses early. If you need that flying ability and +1 toughness and can wait an extra turn Hover Barrier is great, but Murmuring Phantasm stops the pain really early. I would always choose Wall of Frost if I can, but that double blue might not be a good idea for you.

maxon I had forgotten about Murmuring Phantasm thanks. And the double blue would hit me hard from Wall of Frost . I'll try to work in a couple copies of Voyage's End too.

Burst of Strength as another way to go infinite.

What's this? An amazing $25 deck?

Bestach says... #7

Burst of Strength doesn't go infinite because you can't untap the mana dork and Elite Arcanist .

I would say invest in shocklands, it would make things easier, but then there goes the budget idea, but then again, who cares if it isn't budget, especially if it works and is consistent. lol.

I would suggest Hammer of Purphoros or Hellraiser Goblin to allow you to combo off the same turn you cast your Elite Arcanist , otherwise you'll just get blown out against instant speed removal game 2 and 3. Or even Racecourse Fury if you're really on a budget.

TheLameSauce I would never cast the Elite Arcanist without having some sort of counter in hand (Izzet Charm , Negate , Simic Charm ). I had considered Racecourse Fury but using Savage Summoning I can basically achieve the same effect by flashing it in on their endstep along with making it uncounterable.

TheLameSauce says... #11

Savage summoning is a pretty good way to get around that, but I still think some sort of static haste effect would be best.

October 29, 2013 5:31 p.m.

Lord007 says... #12

It would be really good but what should I add and what do I drop for it? My board is pretty full as it is. Is there a land that gives haste?

October 29, 2013 5:43 p.m.

TheLameSauce says... #13

I would honestly drop Predator's Rapport as gaining life, while helpful, doesn't win the game any faster. Also, as much as I love scry, and it is a very helpful ability in a combo deck, 2 damage is very rarely relevant beyond T3. I would take out one or two Magma Jet as well. As far as which haste effect to add, I'm a bit on the fence between Hammer of Purphoros and Racecourse Fury . One is quicker to get out, but essentially costs a mana for every use, and the other makes 3/3s out of unnecessary land. I think I'm leaning towards the hammer.

Was just thinking about this today.., Of all of those which is the best? The Naturalize and the Fade into Antiquity are less color intensive but the Destructive Revelry is really nice too. If I'm just going for sideboard against Pithing Needle then Fade into Antiquity doesn't make sense. However with Theros and the gods Fade into Antiquity is a really really nice card. I only have room for one of these in sideboard so which should I run? I'm really leaning towards Fade into Antiquity or Naturalize

I don't think Guttersnipe works because...it's a copy and doesn't count as a cast? The Theros Heroic mechanic operates under that restriction, I am pretty sure that if that is the case, then Guttersnipe can't take advantage of it either. But that's what it looks like. Anyways, I like it, +1.

GamerSonX says... #16

says so in the text of Elite Arcanist if you did not notice "CAST a copy of the spell"

October 31, 2013 2:22 a.m.

GamerSonX says... #17

same goes for cipher mechanic too, Guttersnipe Nivmagus Elemental etc all take advantage of it

October 31, 2013 2:25 a.m.

Lord007 says... #18

Well to be fair Nivmagus Elemental causes the spell to not resolve but other than that GamerSonX is right. In fact I have a whole slew of cipher decks taking advantage of that, Go to my profile if you want to see them.

Just a correction on the Heroic thing dreamaddict. The wording of the ruling means relates to cards like Meletis Charlatan which copies an instant on the stack and adds the copy to the stack. That copy cannot proc the Heroic mechanic. When you're CASTING a copy, it still activates Heroic. Just not when you're copying and choosing new targets.

infinitemana says... #20

However, if you use something like Elite Arcanist , it casts the copy, so it still counts. It's all about the wording

Why not 2 Elvish Mystic over the sliver? I get that the ramp is important, but it would leave more mana open to protect the combo. After play testing, I got waaay to many lands.

October 31, 2013 5:32 p.m.

Lord007 says... #25

Fizzz The sliver is for any color mana and that's really it. It would be Sylvan Caryatid but the caryatid is really expensive. The reason its in the deck at all is so that if I have the arcanist and tactics but not the druid I can still activate the combo and use Guttersnipe or Predator's Rapport to win/stall for a very very long time.
