Question. If I play Elite Arcanist and I exile a Opportunity can I still pay 1 and play a copy of Opportunity?

November 3, 2013 7:55 p.m.

KoJ0Apex says... #2

And I have a counter to supreme verdict. Replace three guild gates with three shimmering grottos. One of each charm becomes a Boros charm and make all your permanents indestructible

Myogenesis says... #3

KoJ0Apex you would tap Elite Arcanist and 6 mana for X if you exiled Opportunity . X has to be the converted mana cost of the card. The only reason the combo works with Triton Tactics is because it's CMC is one to begin with.

Also not sure what you're talking about with Shimmering Grotto , but the easiest way probably for this deck to avoid verdict is Negate and to not blow your entire hand off the bat (pre turn 4-5).

verdict cannot be countered...Supreme Verdict

Myogenesis says... #5

Ahh yes that's right, doh. Sit back and take it then I guess is the main option

November 4, 2013 2:38 p.m.

Lord007 says... #6

In the case of Supreme Verdict if a lot of decks in my meta ran it I would splash white for Boros Charm for sure but it's not that prevalent. Also I would probably use Transguild Promenade instead of Shimmering Grotto

November 4, 2013 5:29 p.m.

Khanye says... #7

or just wait to combo off till after the verdict...i believe thats why you have Savage Summoning in there

November 4, 2013 5:59 p.m.

Lord007 says... #8

Well why would they use Supreme Verdict if all I have on the field is a Zhur-Taa Druid , Deadly Recluse and/or Omenspeaker . Also Quicken + Supreme Verdict could still potentially hit this deck hard.

I like, though I do think it is a little land heavy (even if it is three colors) why not take a land or two our for somthing fun, maybe more mana ramp to pull the triton inficombo off?

November 4, 2013 7:46 p.m.

Lord007 says... #10

That's a good point. Honestly I haven't paid much attention to my land but I think that the ratios are pretty good. I would really only consider pulling one land and it would have to be for a cheap card.

November 4, 2013 7:49 p.m.

Kaitokid says... #11

Yeah, oh and have you checked out to see if there are more cards that may untap your creatures in standard?

November 4, 2013 7:53 p.m.

Lord007 says... #12

at instant speed the only other one I could find is Ready but that would require multiple mana dorks on field (3 to be exact) and would take this deck in a completely different direction.

Kaitokid says... #13

True, then your deck is great and fun as is, have you tried it out at any FNM?

I haven't had a chance to yet. Still doing basic playtesting with my play group and using my

This is a great deck and I think that the win con is super cool. However after playtesting your deck a bit I think it's kind of inconsistent. I usually ended up getting mana flooded or not getting the ancanist fast enough. Love the name though +1 for that!

Lord007 says... #16

What would you recommend? More Fog type cards or more card draw type cards or more control type cards or more scry?

November 5, 2013 7:18 p.m.

Dropbear says... #17

If you want to ensure speed with your deck, maximize the amout of scry in it. Consider Voyage's End , Thassa, God of the Sea , Dissolve , Spark jolt , Prognostic Sphinx , Aqueous Form . Sphinx would only be included x2, as being a 5 drop you only want to draw him when you can't find your arcanists.

November 5, 2013 7:28 p.m.

anvildust says... #18

Dropbear is right. You should put in as much scy as you can. I would personally advise Voyage's End and Spark jolt . Jolt is cheap and you need more removal so that should probably go in first, and then you should work in the voyage's to incorporate bounce. I think that you should switch 2x Opportunity , 1x Negate , and 3x Deadly Recluse for 4x Spark jolt and 2x Voyage's End . Good for you finding an infinite combo in standard.

Death by mana dork, no seriously...#tableflip those were my problems originally, so I added the scry lands, and the Omenspeaker . Izzet Charm is a workhorse as it helps me dig, can clear early aggro, or can stop a potential non-creature threat from landing. Prophet of Kruphix helps as well, as it gives you a decent blocker, helps you drop the combo faster AND leaves your mana open for many other options.

Wow, I'm a big fan of budget, and this is pretty awesome! It's always cool to see standard legal combo decks! +1

Lord007 says... #21

I'll attempt to respond to the last couple of posts that I didn't get to before the post wipe:

Dropbear I'm definitely going to include more scry. Thassa, God of the Sea is out due to budget, Dissolve is out due to double U, Prognostic Sphinx I don't feel like works here, Aqueous Form would be nice but I don't have much to attack with so that leaves Voyage's End which I will find a way to include

anvildust What I'm thinking is replacing the 3 Negate and 3 Deadly Recluse with 3 Voyage's End , 2 Savage Summoning one Simic Charm

Khanye I just can't get behind Prophet of Kruphix at this point maybe some point in the future but for now I'm satisfied with Savage Summoning

November 6, 2013 8:30 p.m.

Khanye says... #22

i wasn't keen on Prophet of Kruphix at first either, but she is a nightmare for opposing decks. I am debating about adding Bow of Nylea to the mix so that I can pump up the creature, or just flat out gain life. Prophet of Kruphix has served me well though. eats a removal that otherwise would be targeted at the combo

November 6, 2013 8:42 p.m.

Felixlives says... #23

Not sure where you could fit him in but Guttersnipe could be an alternate winner instead of the druid you would only be able to cast as mant Triton Tactics as you have mana for but at 2 damage a pop it could be a swift killer t3 Guttersnipe t4 Elite Arcanist t5 5x triton tactics for 10 damage to the dome.

November 7, 2013 12:14 a.m.

Dropbear says... #24

Dont forget spark jolt

November 7, 2013 3:23 a.m.

Lord007 says... #25

Khanye I might playtest the Prophet of Kruphix but for now I have the Savage Summoning and I don't have the prophet. The bow for continual life gain could definitely be a good idea but I'm not sure.

Felixlives I used to run a secondary combo of Guttersnipe and Manaweft Sliver but I decided to take them out for more control

Dropbear I feel like Spark jolt really wouldn't work. Its basically a 1 mana scry one. I'd much rather run a tempo/token remover and scry one for 2 in Voyage's End .

Dropbear, anvildust You guys have helped me to realize the importance of including more scry. Do you guys have any decks you want help with? The same goes for you Khanye I'd be happy to help you out if I can.
