True but you wouldn't need Hammer of Purphoros for it to work, and you can also hit Gods with Turn / Burn .

Remember to link cards in the Show/Hide tab.

I like the deck a lot but have a hard time getting the cards quickly. I added 2 Mercurial Chemister and 2 Spellheart Chimera . Don't have Anger of the Gods so I put Lightning Strike s in. Anything can help the chimeras do more than block and the chemists help with drawing cards even more so than the other stuff. Also I like electromancer goblinx3 in here. Cheap, blocker, speeds the casting process along. Let's be honest, it's a cool infinite combo, but he tough part is getting the 3 cards you need early.

Teddyk What did you take out for your additions? I'm probably going to test out the Mercurial Chemister vs the Thoughtflare thank you for bringing that to my attention.

Here's the thing, since I don't have Anger of the Gods or 3 Hammers I just took out 2 Lightning Strike and other filler cards. It was easy for me since I didn't have an exact deck clone to begin with.

Did you find that you could keep the combo alive for the turn it had summoning sickness?

Also, how effective were the Spellheart Chimera s? Because that looks like a really good card with my current lack of 3-drops.

This looks like a fun way to blindside someone.

@ lord007

I had no real problem keeping things alive. Since it seems to take a few extra rounds to get the cards needed, I often got more spells to cast, which obviously can only help the Spellheart Chimera . I had one get to be a 10/3 before the win con appeared this morning! Pretty sure there would have been a winner beforehand one way or the other in that game...

Also it's fun to cast a Thoughtflare , pull a couple extraneous spells, cast them into the graveyard and watch everybody really eyeball those chimeras... Also messing around with casting Elite Arcanist with other spells before the win con if I have extras. It's fun to have a Mizzium Skin that I can keep casting.

Teddyk let me know how it goes when people start realizing the combo and start killing either the Elite Arcanist or the Zhur-Taa Druid . In my play group its gotten to the point where I have to wait until I have 9 mana, Hammer of Purphoros on the field, the entire combo in hand and Simic Charm + Mizzium Skin AND Omenspeaker on the field before I can win. The Hammer of Purphoros for haste, the Omenspeaker for Devour Flesh or Away , the Simic Charm and Mizzium Skin for protection (although I'll be changing the Mizzium Skin to Negate to deal with Devour Flesh like things). Its really hard for me to win at this point.

Nigrescence it really is a fun way to blindside people XD

Yeah it can be tough, but I think you are really underestimating how fast those chimeras get buffed. I'm telling you, the real kicker with my version is there are more creatures to cast, which means more targets for you to cast instants/sorcery on. Which means that if you can keep the chimeras alive while waiting for the coup-de-grace, they will win it for you on their own. Same with the chemists. Have an extra arcanist? Discard and tap for 4 damage to your opponent. Even better with a thoughtflare you may not need since the chemist taps for cards, it's 5 damage and another buff to a chimera! It's a tough deck to get the win con out even if the opponent doesn't know what you're trying to do. More creatures, more spell targets .

Did an overhaul on my deck over the weekend and ended up going 5-0 last night at a post superbowl special event...thought I let my counterpart with the best combo in standard know. Death by mana dork, no seriously...#tableflip, linked so you dont have to search. :)

have you thought about Counterflux instead of magma jet? you have turn and burns and or essence scatters in the sb if you need them but i think this counter spell is by far under rated and under used, it may have a hard casting cost but with all the duals you run i think it would be a good replacement

February 23, 2014 9:52 p.m.

LaggerTBagger says... #18

you would also have a better chance at protecting your win con or preventing an opponents

Lord007 says... #19

LaggerTBagger I haven't run into any counter spell wars where Counterflux would be necessary so for now, I'll stick with what I've got in main and side. (the Magma Jet is easily one of the best utility cards in this deck)

Have you thought about a bug version with Consuming Aberration and Arbor Elf ?

February 27, 2014 2:46 p.m.

Nigrescence says... #21

That's a really cool idea, but it requires more pieces of the puzzle to be present. The Zhur-Taa Druid is the win condition and mana dork all together, which leaves more room to build the deck to kill them.

I mean, if you're going to do that, you may as well just run Phenax, God of Deception instead of the Consuming Aberration . The god costs the same, but does a much better job of surviving.

Lord007 says... #22

T.Sloan I assume you are referring to the fact that the combo produces infinite spells and thus would produce infinite "Mill for a land". Its a really neat idea, but Nigrescence hit the nail on the head. It simply adds another piece to the combo making it harder to consistently pull off and Phenax, God of Deception does have more staying power if I were going to mill. However, between the two of you, you have given me an idea for a Phenax, God of Deception deck utilizing as much "untap target creature" as I can xD

007 would more counter spells work in this deck or would you just say keep it how it is? have you play tested having more counter spells?

February 28, 2014 9:08 a.m.

Lord007 says... #24

I have not play tested with more counter-spells and while it might work, then you start entering the land of Control. And If you're playing control, there are much better win-cons than my infinite combo.

Maybe try Swan Song . You don't really care if they get a dude and it means you can counter removal for U.
