Considered Garruk, Caller of Beasts to keep up creature draw? Great deck btw! +1

AWWW YAAAHHHHH!!!!
Curdsbrobile is back in business. Coming at you to kick but and take names (never really got that... "OH NO HE'S GONNA TAKE ROLL, RUN!!!!!").
Always great to see another deck!
As always every thing looks great but can you explain the Utopia Sprawl Vs. Abundant Growth debate to me? I feel like the extra mana may well have greater value then the card. I sorta feel like you might wanna also consider looking into the number of walkers! Maybe switch the number of Domri's vs Xenagos? Xenagoses? Xenagi? :).....
But I am always wrong so there's that!
Thanks!

Hey RedSoxFanKy! Thanks for the suggestions! I'm not actually extremely sure what the whole "taking names" thing really is either...I guess it means you don't care who you're beating (which seams kinda irresponsible and reckless...but I digress... :) Hopefully plans are going well for the move to the new school (RedSoxFanKy was accepted to a very prestigious and difficult to get into school do to his achievements thus far in life...)
There are several decks where Utopia Sprawl
is a MUCH better card...my Devotion to Green (Modern) W/ Eidolon of Blossoms! deck is a good example of this...Utopia Sprawl
is a spectacular ramping/fixing card (especially for decks with permanents that untap lands as you get double the benefit). In this deck, however, since mana is NOT a problem and card advantage is; Abundant Growth
wins out :) Abundant Growth
in and of itself is really not the great of a card in a vaccum. It is only good here because it has three functions...mana fixing, devotion building, and card draw...it also turns off the damage that Mana Confluence
's could cause long-term (and Horizon Canopy
's in the Elf Devotion (Modern) deck. Until devotion (and more importantly, Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx
) came about, it was not the best one-drop in the world :). In this deck, however, it's a god send.
I wish I could say the idea was mine; but it wasn't. Michael Jacobs actually indicated he felt that Abundant Growth was "strictly better" than Elvish Visionary in mono-green devotion builds. Obviously, given the elf-tribal nature of this deck; that is probably not the case here; but fortunately for us; we have room for both! Abundant Growth can quickly tick up devotion to the necessary "4" and higher; and just as important is that in a late game (assuming you play a deck that goes past turn 5-6) you don't cringe when you see it (as it can easily be "cycled" for a better top-deck).
In most devotion decks, you really want both Abundant Growth AND Utopia Sprawl because for what they do compared to what you get in a devotion build; you can't beat them. And this is ESPECIALLY true with the printing of Eidolon of Blossoms ! I am crazy excited about what this card means for traditional green devotion decks (it was a snap-include in my Devotion to Green (Modern) W/ Eidolon of Blossoms! deck). This deck, however, requires the card draw more (as it gets its mana from other places) and there simply isn't room for another non-elf ramping card....that and Utopia Sprawl requires the use of a lot of Forest s (as it must enchant a Forest ) and because this deck branches into three colors with both Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and Cavern of Souls ...it would be tough to use anyways.
And you are right about the planeswalker numbers and the number of Xenageeses (I'm gonna go with that :) Xenagos, The Reveler is crazy in this deck in terms of mana production...he functions basically as a Gaea's Cradle once he's down. I've also found use for his other two abilities as well :) Nearly every walker in the deck only takes 1-3 turns to go "ultimate" in this deck (save Nissa Revane ); so if games get extended a little you have a very powerful option (as unless they have a lot of flyers you can generally protect at least one of your walkers for multiple turns). I am testing it in many different "assortments" of walkers...
Xenagos, The Reveler is especially good with Khalni Hydra ...often times you can cast Xenagos, The Reveler and turn around and use his +1 to cast Khalni Hydra ...I'm finding I like Khalni Hydra A LOT! I'm an idiot; as at least two people told me to use him and since I was so high on Primalcrux over Khalni Hydra in my Green-Devotion deck (Primalcrux was a better fit there,; I didn't give him a propert chance until recently...I may even move up to three of him.
I will definitely try out one more Xenagos, The Reveler though (and some new assortments as Sarkhan Vol is especially good here and everyone knows by now how crazy good Garruk Wildspeaker is in green-devotion builds....great suggestions!

Matsi883...I didn't have Nissa Revane in the mainboard as she effectively only gains life in this deck (and you don't always need life gain and would rather have the speed/draw the other's create). Having said this, I'm thinking of putting one Nissa's Chosen in the sideboard to give here a little more versatility (as she can be a powerful devotion builder with Nissa's Chosen )...I'll try her out main though and see what happens! Thanks for the suggestion!

So which of the two decks is, in your opinion, the strongest/most consistent?

CurdBrosBrewingCo says... #8
Buttmuffin2000....such a tough question!!! haha...
To be completely honest, I've found this deck to be a little more consistent and resilient. It stands up better to removal. The sideboard for this one still needs a little tweaking though (as it actually plays slightly different and has slightly different match-up strength's/weaknesses)..
Elf Devotion (Modern) (the one with Umbral Mantle
) seems to be tiny bit faster...I'd say on average it is 1/4 a turn faster (when you win; you will win 1 game out of 4 one turn earlier...I know that is really confusing; but that's kinda how I gauge it). Also, I feel like the sideboard is better in that one (due to its access to white).
In the end, however, I prefer this deck and consider it to be a little stronger because (a) it seems more resilient in testing, (b) Kessig Wolf Run is such a good card in devotion decks (especially ones with a large amount of small creatures) that you really don't want to play without it, and (c) planeswalkers just a really really efficient cards that (if they match the synergy of the deck) are always a great choice.
If a gun was put to my head, I'd say this one is more consistent. I made this a different deck on here only because I had changed enough that I didn't want to completely remove the Elf Devotion (Modern) from tapped out (as it still runs well and a lot of people prefer infinite combos in their deck as it is another item their opponent has to concern themselves with). I'm currently playing this version and I tend to prefer it.

TheWatchGuard...to many non-basic lands to what? To many non-basics to beat a Blood Moon
? To many non-basics to deal with Burning Earth
? I would love to know what I may need to fix; but without a little more info I can't. 14 of the 19 (74%) lands can produce green to cast an elf the second they hit the board (and elves are all you cast for turns 1-2).
I'm being very serious when I say I want to know what you mean. I respect your opinion, and I've had very few issues with mana thus far...but there it is extremely likely I'm overlooking something that I need to be prepared for; so I do appreciate you taking the time to elaborate. Interesting point! This is what I love about Tapped Out!

Are Blood Moon and Burning Earth not compensated for with Viridian Zealot ?

Buttmuffin2000 says... #12
Yeah I've been playing this on Untap and it plays pretty consistently. The only trouble I had was Control. Cards to deal with any form of a control deck would be fantastic in the sideboard. I'm new to Modern so I'm not entirely sure what those cards might be. I hope this helps!

Sorry I wasn't more specific... I mean I was playtesting 2/3 times the mana was killing me, you need more early green if you can.

No problem TheWatchGuard....I LOVE constructive criticism (especially when it makes sense and comes from someone who's opinion I respect such as yours)...I felt you had a good point and wanted to make sure I paid attention to the right things when testing with the mana base. Good point. I will make sure to keep track of how many games mana hinders me from casting my early game elves and make adjustments where necessary. Thanks for the great suggestion!
and yes Buttmuffin2000; that is the purpose of Viridian Zealot ...he's a great SB card...a little slow; but I haven't found him to be an issue...he's great because he adds to your synergy and tribal even if you never have to sacrifice him!

Buttmuffin2000...you are absolutely right that control decks are probably the toughest match-up this deck sees. The Cavern of Souls
are HUGE against control; but it is still a tough tough match-up. I typically actually side out all four Genesis Wave
's as you don't want to dedicate so much mana to one spell (only to have it counterted). I have begun looking into new sideboard options as well (such as Vexing Shusher
and Mistcutter Hydra
) but I'd love to hear anyone else's suggestions for great options...obviously, Banefire
's come in immediately (and are such a good card against control).

Your devotion count is off on the beginning of turn 3, should be 5 not 6.

Yes! Banefire is being used! Definitely one of my favorite cards in modern...

You are right scorpix....Banefire is such a good card! Control can be a tougher match-up and this seems to be a great card against control! Of course, I haven't got it mainboarded like you were able to in your green burn deck (people should definitely check it out because it's AWESOME!); but I like it quite a bit.

Like what you've done here. +1 from me. I currently am playing combo elves but I used to play an elf ramp genesis wave deck. Have you thought about Boseiju, who shelters all to help with the control match? It definitely saved me from a few counterspells in mine. The extra colorless hurt a little at times, but the slower play into an uncountetable wave was definitely worth it.
