Alternate Configurations

There are many cards that naturally combo with this commander. If your playgroup is hesitant about this there are two options to slightly power down the deck.

1. Replace Staff of Domination with Lightning Greaves. This removes the only one-card instant win combo with the commander.

2. Switch Marwyn with Ezuri, Renegade Leader, a much more fair commander. This forces you to first find the right pieces before you can execute a combo.

You could also do both - run a fair commander with zero two-card combos.

Backup Commanders

Like Marwyn, these Elves can be tapped for large, often ridiculous, amounts of mana, making them perfect untap targets. Substitute any Backup Commander for Marwyn in any of her combos.

Combos

I. Marwyn, the Nurturer + Staff of Domination

a. Generate infinite {G}.

• Marwyn {T}: Add at least five {G}.
• Staff {3}, {T}: Untap Marwyn.
• Staff {1}: Untap Staff.
• Repeat

b. Draw your deck.

• Staff {5}, {T}: Draw.
• Staff {1}: Untap Staff.
• Repeat.

II. Marwyn, the Nurturer + Umbral Mantle

Generate an arbitrarily large Marwyn if she taps for at least three {G}.

Generate infinite {G} if Marwyn taps for at least four {G}.

Equip Mantle to Marwyn.

• Marwyn {T}: Add at least three {G}.
• Mantle {3}, {UNTAP}: Marwyn gets +2/+2.
• Repeat.

III. Marwyn, the Nurturer + Sword of the Paruns

Generate infinite {G}.

Equip Sword to Marwyn.

• Marwyn {T}: Add at least four {G}.
• Sword {3}: Untap Marwyn.
• Repeat.

IV. Hyrax Tower Scout + Kogla, the Titan Ape or Hyrax Tower Scout + Temur Sabertooth + Marwyn, the Nurturer

Generate infinite Human casts/ETBs if Marwyn taps for at least five {G}.

Generate infinite {G} if Marwyn taps for at least six {G}.

• Marwyn {T}: Add at least five {G}.
• Kogla or Sabertooth {1}{G}: Return Scout to hand.
• Cast Scout for {2}{G}.
• When Scout enters the battlefield, untap Marwyn.
• Repeat.

V. Eternal Witness + Kogla, the Titan Ape + Vitalize or Eternal Witness + Temur Sabertooth + Vitalize + Marwyn, the Nurturer

Since Vitalize untaps all your creatures, any combination of mana dorks that taps for at least six {G} can be substituted for Marwyn in addition to the Backup Commanders. These cards in particular help enable the combo:

• Birchlore Rangers (with at least five other Elves)
• Heritage Druid (with at least five other Elves)
• Elven Chorus (with at least six creatures)
• Ashaya, Soul of the Wild (with at least five other creatures)

Generate infinite Human casts/ETBs if Marwyn taps for at least six {G}.

Generate infinite {G} if Marwyn taps for at least seven {G}.

• Marwyn {T}: Add at least six {G}.
• Cast Vitalize for {G} to untap Marwyn.
• Cast Witness for {1}{G}{G}.
• When Witness enters the battlefield, return Vitalize from graveyard to hand.
• Kogla or Sabertooth {1}{G}: Return Witness to hand.
• Repeat.

VI. Temur Sabertooth + Wirewood Symbiote + Marwyn, the Nurturer + Llanowar Elves

Substitute any other Elf for Llanowar Elves. Marwyn must tap for at least three {G} plus the cost of the Elf used.

Symbiote can activate multiple times per turn because each time it ETBs it's a new permanent.

Generate infinite Elf and Insect casts/ETBs if Marwyn taps for at least four {G}.

Generate infinite {G} if Marwyn taps for at least five {G}.

• Marwyn {T}: Add at least four {G}.
• Symbiote Return Elves to hand: Untap Marwyn.
• Sabertooth {1}{G}: Return Symbiote to hand.
• Cast Symbiote for {G}.
• Cast Elves for {G}.
• Repeat.

VII. Ashaya, Soul of the Wild + Quirion Ranger or Ashaya, Soul of the Wild + Scryb Ranger

Generate infinite Elf or Faerie casts/ETBs.

Ashaya taps for {G} because it's a Forest.

Ranger can return itself to hand because Ashaya makes her a Forest.

Ranger can activate multiple times per turn because each time she ETBs she's a new permanent.

• Ashaya {T}: Add {G}.
• Ranger Return itself to hand: Untap Ashaya.
• Cast Ranger for {G}.
• Repeat.

VIII. Ashaya, Soul of the Wild + Quirion Ranger or Ashaya, Soul of the Wild + Scryb Ranger + Marwyn, the Nurturer

Generate infinite Elf or Faerie casts/ETBs.

Generate infinite {G}.

Ranger can return itself to hand because Ashaya makes her a Forest.

Ranger can activate multiple times per turn because each time she ETBs she's a new permanent.

• Marwyn {T}: Add at least two {G}.
• Ranger Return itself to hand: Untap Marwyn.
• Cast Ranger for {G}.
• Repeat.

Elvish Rewards

The first category is mana sinks and card draw engines to spend infinite {G}. You can also just cast creatures using one of the cast/ETB rewards in the other categories and hope to keep finding gas. Honorable Mention goes to Oracle of Mul Daya, which is great at clearing pesky lands off the top of your library.

Remember it can sometimes be correct to choose Human, Insect, or Faerie for Roaming Throne to enable a combo. You might even find reason to choose Spirit, Ape, Squirrel, or Pest! Otherwise choose Elf, obviously.

Kogla, the Titan Ape - Precious creature removal, artifact/enchantment removal, and a combo piece all in one ferocious package!

Return of the Wildspeaker - Mass card draw or a win condition, at instant speed.

Roaming Throne - Besides Marwyn, there are twelve other creatures plus the Pests from Pest Infestation that can benefit.

Wolverine Riders - Life gain is potent protection, and the tokens provide all the benefits Elves have to offer.

Win Conditions

The deck's only win condition is combat. Ideally an infinite combo will translate to infinite power in the red zone. However chip damage should not be ignored.

MVP goes to Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth. Alongside either Eladamri, Lord of Leaves or Elvish Champion this makes all your creatures unblockable. Use Crop Rotation to tutor out the Cradle.
