Which utility lands would you cut? I guess Lumbering Falls comes first to mind? I like having the option to tutor with Primeval Titan for 6 additional power.
Yeah Dark Confidant is a weak point, but i did not have the chance to cast him very often against aggressive decks. Often trading into a x/2. Versus midrange and control he is (as usual) pretty much insane :)
Kira, Great Glass-Spinner came to my mind too. A friend of mine argued, that she is a dead card versus aggressive decks and overkill versus midrange decks. Anyways i will go trade one and test her. There is to much uncertainty here.
Vampire Nighthawk did not make the cut versus Thrun, the Last Troll. Whichone would you prefer? I am still unsure on that decision.

I'm not a fan of man lands. And in my experience, the Sanitarium and Volrath's Stronghold were often underwhelming. Since you're playing a bit of control and some dorks, I would totally avoid using tap lands. Basic lands might serve you better if you weren't using Tainted Pact. You can probably just use Worldly Tutor since the deck is more creature-centered than most Leovold decks.
I like Kira and Vampire Nighthawk because they are fliers in addition to their other abilities. Thrun is also good especially if you frequently come against control.

I would suggest Expropriate It wins late game and is just such a good card to use in any commander that has blue in it.

@Esperbitch: Thanks for the comment. I am not a native speaker so feel welcome to correct me where ever you see a mistake.
@Hamster2558: I do not see how Expropriate fits into duelcommander. Maybe you did not see that this deck is not designed for playing multiplayer.
@Megalomania: I kept the Volrath's Stronghold, Geier Reach Sanitarium and manland package. I played in the meantime a lot more and can now safely say, that Volrath's Stronghold and Geier Reach Sanitarium very good endgame plans. Sometimes you just got barely control over the opponent, to see you self getting flood or running out of meaningful spells. Volrath's Stronghold and Geier Reach Sanitarium provide flood protection and more value on my side. The manlands are good against the more and more popular Attraxa-Superferfriend lists in my LGS, while providing additional endgame punch. Anyways, i added Vampire Nighthawk in favor of Thrun, the Last Troll to the deck and i love it! But i loved Thrun, the Last Troll as well, so i am searching for space in my deck. I made an update on that topic.

A friend of mine plays a similar deck, but utilizes a few more ways to lock out the opponent with Leo. Teferi's Puzzle Box simply ends the game if you can take care of what they have on board afterwards. Anvil of Bogardan can also do similarly, but whittling down their hand until they have nothing left. This looks very strong though, just thought I'd share some semi-suggestions. Great deck, +1

Hey Qkey, just wrote on your thread in mtgsalvation. As for a 6 drop, have you thought of Torrential Gearhulk ?

I have to agree with bulletmonkey on the fact that Teferi's Puzzle Box is a game ender, this card is cruel control and locks your opponent out without any chance of return unless the instant speed an answer.
That being said, Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir is a good option for disruption, giving your creatures flash and stopping instant spells from the opponents. He alone allows you to not worry about counterspells or instant speed kill spells.
Finally, wheel effects, just one of the following is enough: Windfall, Wheel of Fortune, Magus of the Wheel, Timetwister, Jace's Archivist

LordNazahn why did you not read the description before commenting in a haste?
Teferi's Puzzle Box might be a problem in multiplayer, but versus decks like Zurgo or any other deck that has cheap removal, this card backfires more times then it may lock down the game. I commented briefly on that in the strategy part of my description.
Same goes for your wheel effect comment, this deck is not even red!
Finally Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir is a good card for sure and you descripted perfectly what it does, but i do not see, why i should run him. Leovold does a very good job protecting my stuff and winning a counter war should not be that big of a problem. But i do not see how he helps me with the things that i pointed out that need some work.

I feel like Vapor Snag is a little underwhelming with so many low cmc creatures in duel. Do you think it's worth it's slot? Do you do it as a trick with your commander? I'd replace it with a Far / Away, personally.
October 3, 2017 1:38 a.m.
Hi TeferisBitchboy, thanks for the comment. Vapor Snag proofed to be a very good card in my deck. Its cheap cost and the life loss, are great for match ups, where i do have to generate some tempo. Nerveless, i think Far / Away could be a great addition to the deck.
I am thinking about cutting Spell Snare or Spell Pierce from the deck, since the deck around Baral, Chief of Compliance got nerved and Jace, Vryn's Prodigy Flip got banned, i tend to cut the Spell Snare. On the other hand Spell Snare proofed to be a strong play on the draw. On the play, it gets mostly used very randomly. Spell Pierce performed better in counterwars but tends to be a weak card, versus creature draws from my oppenents.

I run Spell Snare in my deck, but mostly because I can deal with the creatures early game, it's harder to deal with other things early game. Personally, I would cut the snare for it.

I ended up taking out Daze :) Its to much of a tempoloss

So now you are running only 37 lands + excavator, does it replaces a land in the end? I'll miss 38 lands for sure.
November 3, 2017 10:54 p.m.
Have you tried Hypnotic Specter and Wydwen before? I'm testing them for the fun of it.
November 3, 2017 11:09 p.m.
Yeah 37 lands + Ramunap Excavator was to greedy. I had to add a Land back (Dust Bowl) and added Life from the Loam, for more stability. I am not going to add cyclelands or Intuition any time soon, since that would be a super slow engine and this deck does not need that. Intuition could be interesting since, i am running 2 lands, that can combo with Leovold and i am running enough LD on Lands. On the other Hand, this would be slow as well.
Treachery left the Deck, for Sword of Feast and Famine. I think, since you can separate casting and equip over two turns, this will help the deck, to be more manaefficient. Also it protects Leovold and allows me to stay at home and block without losses against most decks. Spellskite came back to the party for similar reasons.
Since Zurgo is on a decline, i decided to cut Collective Brutality (A card, that never made me happy), Simic Charm (Was more of a filler, then in the deck for a specific reason) and Vampire Nighthawk. Compared to the rest of the deck, i could not justify running a creature that had such an low impact on the board.
Final addition is Thragtusk. I wanted another lifegain in the deck and since Treachery was cut, i could convince my self, that a 5-drop should be ok for the deck. Also i saw this video on youtube and it reminded me of the power of this card.
Hypnotic Specter could be very interesting. But i think, he might be to slow and only good vs other controldecks. Wydwen looks to slow to me, i would rather play Notion Thief.

Watched the video, will try thrugtusk if the scarab god doesnt turn so well.
Im trying mind twist again, in place of the specter.
Ascetic troll is doing really good for me, very hard to kill by opponents because of the regeneration and hexproof.
Might be good with the sword ofaf. I have 1 sword laying around so I might test it too.

Why would he be legal in duel commander? To me that makes no sense whatsoever.
October 1, 2018 3:58 p.m.
Instantspeed removal is much more common in Duel Commander and most Mana acceleration ist banned. It is a lot harder to lock the game down.

I really like the shift over to some big beefy boys. Grave Titan seems so fun to just slam down turn 6 against decks in this current meta.

This strikes me ass an odd but solid build. I would lose some of the unecessary utility lands though. You can probably lose the utility lands and just get a couple of ramp spells like Nature's Lore and Three Visits.
How well has Dark Confidant worked for you? With the current 20-life format, Phyrexian Arena might be a safer bet.
I cannot help but think creatures like Kira, the Great Glass-Spinner and maybe even Vampire Nighthawk would work well here.
