Changes:

Removed Mountain, Unsubstantiate.

Added Mana Drain, Narset's Reversal.

I'm not having too many problems with mana, and with the recent addition of Lotus Petal (thanks to NivStormfront's suggestions), I'm hopeful I can survive on 32 lands. I would run Lion's Eye Diamond in that slot if I could afford it, maybe I'll try and see if anyone has trades...

Meanwhile, Unsubstantiate was meant as protective bounce for Vadrok as well as going infinite with Thousand-Year Storm + Frantic Search. Narset's Reversal can still go infinite with TYS, and while it can't bounce Vadrok, it works a lot better as interaction overall.

Finally, I stuck Mana Drain back in -- it just helps so much when kicking off a combo to have large amounts of colorless.

Has Chain of Vapor and Faithless Looting done much for you? I know you're cutting two cards from the deck is why I ask

xander11: Chain of Vapor is an all-star, I'm a huge fan. Faithless Looting has been solid, and Rielle, the Everwise does great things with it -- it helps me pitch useful spells into GY to recast with Vadrok.

I've been mirroring your deck myself. I play in a more creature heavy meta, and currently against lower-tiered decks but its a blast, and something completely different. Wish it had a more "sure" way to win other then infinite combo though. Like the addition of Thousand Year Storm.

Things I want to fit into here: Hazoret's Monument, Seal of Removal. But now, what to cut??

@Daedalus19876 well I started with the budget version. Here is the first draft of the list: Elemental Dinosaur Cat [€50,-* budget]

suggestions are welcome! read the description. I try to stay under €50 ;)

Hey I love the idea for the deck. Would you be willing to post the budget version of the list you checked, or a more recent budget version?

Thanks and keep up the good work!

This deck is great! I know you wanted to keep it non-white but what do you think of Dovin, Hand of Control

Ruin Crab looks like a nice substitute for Hedron Crab - each opponent milling three for the same cost is a huge deal!

  • 1 from me, mutate commanders need more love!

OmegaAura113: I'm using Hedron Crab only to mill myself, as a way to fill my GY for Breach and Vadrok! ;) But thank you for the +1, do you mind clicking the button again? I don't think it went through correctly haha.

Ooooh, I see; that’s pretty crafty xD I keep trying to upvote it, but the number isn’t changing; tried on both mobile and PC

I'm actually considering running Mesmeric Orb in here...

How has Surrakar Spellblade been performing for you?

October 11, 2020 5:18 p.m.

Daedalus19876 says... #16

Profet93: Pretty good! Depends on the matchup, and how much removal they have versus how many counters I draw. Vadrok always guarantees one counter from the mutation trigger, so even if I hit only once I reach parity. But I've often managed to draw 5+ cards per turn with it, which just runs away with games, since Vadrok staples evasion onto it. It's a lot like Consecrated Sphinx : if I can hold up enough counterspells so that it survives for a turn cycle, it tends to win.

Wow I know you're already going to add it but I actually can't believe how good the new Hullbreacher card is for this deck. 1) flash 2) 3cmc 3) mutateable 4) insane on its own 5) works as a 2nd narset effect for wheels

genuinely don't know if you could get a more perfect card.

I'm so glad this deck has been getting the attention it deserves, as it is a super cool deck. Have you ever thought about Thada adel, aquisitor? She gives vadrok more evasion if the opponents have fliers, and has an added bonus in almost always getting you either a utility artifact or combo piece from an opponents deck.

MrDimir: Heh, nice to see more of us are playing Magic :D

Subzero9998: Agreed, it's just... So wonderful, my god...

I_Want_To_PlayAllTheDecks: Not a bad idea, I'll consider that! :)

The changes I'm testing right now, to fit a Cloudstone package and a discount Cephalid Breakfast.

Cut: Wheel of Misfortune , Lightning Bolt , Izzet Charm , Treasonous Ogre , Thing in the Ice  Flip, Rielle, the Everwise , Cephalid Constable .

Added: Whirlpool Warrior , Goblin Engineer , Cloudstone Curio , Lightning Greaves , Intuition , Cephalid Illusionist , Spectral Sailor .

Abridged explanation:

Wheel of Misfortune was just too hard to control effectively, and I can't force my opponents to draw with Narset or Hullbreacher out (also, making it work right often cost too much life if I was the archenemy). Whirlpool Warrior does that trick better.

Cephalid Constable was cute and won me some games, but it always left everyone unhappy at the end of the game. Cephalid Illusionist costs one less mana, mills cards to give Vadrok fuel, and sometimes can help on defense.

Speaking of Illusionist, I'm testing Lightning Greaves to mill my whole deck along with him (by alternating between Illusionist and another creature). I'd rather run Nomads en-Kor , but I'm not running any white... Lightning Greaves can help protect something like Toothy or Con Sphinx anyway, so hopefully it's not TOO bad on its own.

Goblin Engineer can fetch Curio, and Cloudstone Curio can reset Vadrok's mutation, or simply go infinite with Cloud of Faeries and/or Dockside Extortionist (potentially with help from Birgi, God of Storytelling  Flip).

Intuition has been in and out before, but I'm testing it to try packages like Lore Drakkis / Snap + Underworld Breach + Dockside Extortionist / Sea-Dasher Octopus (assuming I already have Vadrok on field). At the very least, it's essentially an Entomb for Underworld Breach , since no opponent in their right mind would ever allow me to have that card in hand.

Further changes: Mystic Reflection and Thing in the Ice  Flip in, with Goblin Engineer / Cloudstone Curio out. Curio just wasn't doing its job correctly, and Mystic Reflection allows some interesting infinite combo lines with Vadrok.

Because a copy effect clones all mutations, you can use Mystic Reflection to get multiple Vadrok effects onto the same creature. And from there, you can go infinite in a couple ways. Mystic Reflection is an outlet for our infinite mana combos, and if nothing else it's powerful removal against commanders and Thassa's Oracle :)
