Welcome to Aetherflux Release, my janky infinite-cast combo deck. If you like what you see please +1, and all comments and suggestions are welcome.
So when Naru Meha, Master Wizard was announced, I knew there had to be some way to abuse her abilities. Flash and copy an instant or sorcery? Yes, please. But what combo could I come up with? Then I remembered Release to the Wind. So here is how the combo works: cast Release targeting anything you want, flash in Neru in response. When she ETBs, copy Release and target Neru with it, then immediately flash Neru back in, copying the original Release, then lather, rinse, repeat.
So we now have as many ETB and creature cast triggers as we want. What do we do with them? Well, we have two options. If we have Aetherflux Reservoir on the battlefield, we gain an arbitrarily-large amount of life (only off of recasting Neru, not the copying of Release), then tap it to deal 50 damage to our opponent. The other option is to have Bontu's Monument out and drain our opponent for 1 life each time she comes in.
The rest of the deck is similar to a UW Approach shell. I chose that instead of UB because White has better sweepers and more exile effects at a better cost. Opt and Glimmer of Genius allow us to dig for our combo pieces, Fumigate and Settle the Wreckage sweep away our opponent's creatures, Cast Out and Seal Away for spot removal, and Disallow and Essence Scatter for our counterspells.
In the sideboard we have Negate to deal with spell-based decks, Ixalan's Binding to pull out combo pieces or get rid of serious threats like the Gods, Renewed Faith for some lifegain against aggro decks, and Forsake the Worldly to deal with GPGs, vehicles, and our opponent's enchantment-based removal. The final piece in the SB is fun. To change up our deck we can put in Regal Caracal, which not only gives us some excellent lifelink blockers, but can also be flickered in a pinch with Release to make a whole boardful of cat tokens.
Note: I tried to keep this deck in a budget range (as of posting), so I know there are some pricey cards I could add, such as Search for Azcanta
and Teferi, Hero of Dominaria. If you wish to tweak the shell and add them, feel free, it wouldn't change the overall thrust of the deck very much, and will most likely make it more competitive.
