I remember you mentioning something about playing Abzan in Standard, but don't see a deck listed by you. Still working on something?

vault: Ah yeah I have a couple abzan lists on here but they're been on private since they weren't things I planned on showcasing or putting effort into making descriptions for. If you're interested, I'd be happy to give you privs to see them!

I'm definitely interested. I've always had a soft spot for Junk.

I think you have to tag me in the deck for me to be able to see it.

WOOT! I pushed the score to 200. I like Temur, and I agree about Surrak Dragonclaw. I have a Temur dragon deck, and he was in my sideboard for playing against control decks, but he was so good I ended up taking out 2 Harbinger of the Hunt and putting in 2 Surrak Dragonclaw instead. Sagu Mauler is great too, and gives you plenty of good sideboard options for playing against midrange of any type or against aggro. The only thing I'm finding with my own Temur deck is that those colors tend to rely on card synergy a little more, and having three colors can be a drawback compared to only running two, but when everything works out it's so good.

Hey Spooty. Just revisiting Temur after OGW, do you think it's possible to build this as a competitive control deck now that you've got Kozilek's Return, Roast + Tears of Valakut etc?

helpivefallen: I think a lot of what you're asking hinges on how strict you are on the word "competitive". Standard is in a weird spot right now where most decks seem to be playing mostly the same cards. UR is a core color combination that is very strong pre-OGW. With access to things like Jace, Vryn's Prodigy  Flip, Fiery Impulse and more, there is a ton of wiggle room to work with. Adding green to such a core as opposed to black or white offers a lot less in the way of "control elements".

You need to ask yourself this: "why would I play green?" What is so good in green that it gives merit to playing over Ojutai's Command, Mantis Rider, Duress, or Crackling Doom? For one, there's Sarkhan Unbroken. He's a really cool card that hasn't been given enough room to shine yet. Den Protector is a nice form of card advantage. Nissa, Vastwood Seer  Flip is a nice early play. As you may have noticed, though, these are all older cards.

What came out of OGW in green that makes it worth running Temur over Jeskai(black or otherwise) Esper or Mardu? I've personally looked and can't find anything really that makes it any more viable of a control deck than before. Kozilek's Return is a very good card and goes well with a card like World Breaker -- another good card. BUT what makes that a control deck? It's probably not worth running a bunch of counterspells and cheap removal in what should be an eldrazi ramp deck. That's at least how it appears to me so far.

You could maybe try out a Temur superfriends build, but then you're again missing out on some of the best planeswalkers in standard, such as Gideon, Ally of Zendikar and Ob Nixilis Reignited. I DO love the new Chandra and would love to see her in a control shell, but I also think it makes SO much more sense to build control in basically any other color combination than those that include green, sadly :/
