My apologies Dreno33, I only meant that it seems the deck would gravitate to and possibly ultimately become a modern WUR control deck whilst seeking answers for its the cards it struggles against, I in no way meant that what I was saying was completely correct, only a possible outcome if white is splashed extensively... none the less, I truly don't know which would be better, a splash of white or a splash of black, both have good arguments, which do you believe has the better answers to the threats this deck would struggle against?

I have thought about Blood Moon however it would hit my lands aswell and with the heavy blue not sure how i would fair. Boomerang , Early Frost , Gigadrowse and Eye of Nowhere are currently in my sideboard to deal with faster decks like merfolk or living end.

Also jst for everyone to know i didnt build this deck because i thought it wud be unstoppable or become a huge modern threat. I built this deck because it incredibly fun to play. Also because in my current meta there is nothing remotely close to it. I like being different. I dnt play net decks because i find no joy in playing a deck that is already established in modern and everyone plays. How boring is that? Really really boring! This deck is sooooo unassuming that ppl dnt take it seriously...... Until i crush them wit huge damage spells. I also built this deck to turn heads. And believe you me it does jst that. I mean who dsnt want to Cerebral Vortex on storms turn 3 after they take 20 mins to take their turn drawing basically their entire deck jst to Grapeshot you for 20. Now that is funny stuff! I also love to hear " howling mine?" "Fantastic!" Then watch them squirm when they realize what is really going on. This deck is meant to fuck wit those ppl who love playing modern staple decks. Its for those ppl who wud rather play someone elses deck ideas then to have the creativity to build their own home brew. Its not like we are plaing in a grad prix. Its jst modern night for store credit. Id rather lose a few games but hear everyone talk about how nobody saw it coming or how it jst brutalized a well established modern deck. To me...... Thats fun. Thats what mtg is all about for me. Also i wud like to thank everyone for the comments! I really appreciate it. Keep them coming. There is always room for improvement with this deck. I jst want it to be competitive. Thanks again and dont forget to +1.

georgeegroeg2013, to answer threats, I think white has better options. Lots and lots of good sideboard options (Stony Silence , Path to Exile , Suppression Field , Rest in Peace ). those are just the staples off the top of my head.
The biggest threat I think is any deck that uses hand disruption. If they keep targeting and pulling Ebony Owl Netsuke , he's screwed. Blue counter spells work best for that. White doesn't really have options for it. But they will be side boarding in artifact removal if they have it, which counter spells are best for that as well. But he needs to have answers for the meta, which white is amazing at.

I know I haven't commented in awhile, but I really enjoy this deck and had to ask. I realized both players have a lot of extra card draw; have you encountered any problems with having too many cards in hand and being forced to discard? If not, that's great! If so, maybe you could run a Reliquary Tower just in case. :)

I have not really had any problems with having to discard. With any deck there is a relatively good chance you will mulligan and with the removal of Simian Spirit Guide you will start your first few turns with a low card count in your hand. With this being said i have run across a few instances when i discarded as a play choice to hold back a counter like Dream Fracture . If i would jst buck up and buy 2 more Shivan Reef i could drop 2 Sulfur Falls and add a Reliquary Tower and not really worry about having Sulfur Falls enter tapped.

I have been debating the effectiveness of Burning Inquiry in this deck. Any thoughts?

Basically id like to know if i can cast Runeflare Trap after we draw three cards with Burning Inquiry but before we discard. Is that possible? My thinking is that it is considered a trigger so can i respond to it?
June 11, 2014 4:51 p.m.
vedalkin_mastermind. No, it is not possible. When Burning Inquiry resolves, you draw three and discard three. NOTHING can respond IN BETWEEN the draw and discard. It is ONE effect on the stack, not two separate ones

What about playing Goblin Guide over Vexing Devil ?
June 19, 2014 12:10 a.m.
Oh, and you can cast Runeflare Trap after Burning Inquiry , since it counts cards they've drawn, and discarding cards doesn't make you have drawn less cards. Also: add in Shah of Naar Isle . Bulk rare, very cheap.

No, I haven't built this deck yet for my local modern night. (The only thing stopping me is my lack of Remand s, and I'm being cheap right now lol). It does seem pretty interesting, but my meta is pretty competitive right now. It's plagued with Infect, BG rock, UWR control, Merfolk, mono-white hatebears/enchantments, the occasional Affinity, and a Pod deck or 2. I have the only burn deck that I've seen there, and whenever I lend it to someone to play they always top 3 with it lol. But if/when I do get a set of Remands, I'll be sure to give this deck a try.

Sorry for the double post, but do you think you could put up what you have for a SB? I'd like to get an idea of what it is.

Having a SB sure helps out! I'd try to add a number of Vapor Snag in there somewhere, as it helps with the burn plan as well as keeping their hand full. I like the Boomerang effects, especially after they fetch for a fancy shockland you can just bounce them back and they'll have to pay 2 to regain the tempo. Actually... I wonder if you can somehow just abuse the mana denial aspect of Boomerang somehow in the MD. Maybe instead of you going faster with the SSGs, you slow them down by bouncing their lands a few turns along with Remanding whatever they try to play. I think it would also help you get more ebony owl activations too. Now I'm super curious how a deck like that would work.... Maybe with a few Isochron Scepter s....

I actually have a deck base around that very concept. Not on this site yet however. Its all base around a very fun very mean artifact called Quicksilver Fountain . Take note if you bounce it or if it gets destroyed the flood counters still stay. Very neat! adding cards like Blood Moon or Magus of the Moon make it that much more brutal. But currently its a mono blue deck.

hmm, that one sounds pretty neat too. I was thinking that if you added back in the Sudden Impact s to this deck in place of the vortexes, you could MD the boomerang strategy with a full set of of Isochron Scepter and win via Ebony Owl's with counterspells controlling the board. You could still include the traps and Vision Skeins for that surprise turn 3 8-9 dmg. And then fill out the set of Trouble. I'm going to have to make this a deck now.... Dang those Remand s are pricey though.

Yes they are. But worth every penny. In my eyes Remand is the absolute best counter spell in the modern format.

Some great modern sideboards be Counterflux (anit storm and control) Ratchet Bomb (put as manay counter as you need to blow up the big baddy on the feild or 0and kill the tokens and flipped delver) Blood Moon (hose down all tri color and tron decks very nicely) Pithing Needle (no to cards like walkers, man lands , pod decks, twin) are some ideas to runto hinder their deck while you build up your own

Also remove trouble and all for the cryptics mainboard. That card is not sideboarded ever its to versitile

The cmc of Cryptic Command is to high for mb in this deck. As for Counterflux , Dream Fracture is a better choice for this deck. I have def considered BloodMoon however im worried it would mess with my lands too much. Thanks for the great suggestions! Dont forget to +1!

Also, I'm thinking that black may be good for you. You get access to the proper removal of Go for the Throat , Victim of Night , Dismember and Slaughter Pact (which in my opinion, does a lot better job than your current removal and a few of your creatures). But you also get access to Sign in Blood , which can be used for either draw for you, and draw and damage for your opponent.
Now this deck also reminds me of Nekusar EDH builds, of which I have one being built as well, so I'll make a lot of suggestions from there. I'll start with the most likely additions, and slowly work my way down to the more expensive additions. Obviously, many of these are too slow for modern, but they are just ideas for you to use.
- Kederekt Parasite : A cheap one mana creature that can do massive damage from them just continuously drawing cards.
- Underworld Dreams : A bit pricey, but works the same way, is harder to remove, and doesn't require a red permanent.
- Waste Not : A little bit of utility for the discarding that will be happening.
- Liliana's Caress : If they are drawing lots of cards, they are also going to be discarding lots of cards. Bonus damage!
- Megrim : Same thing as above, but can swing for damage.
- Molten Psyche : Helps with the damage and draw enchantments.
- Jace's Archivist : Ties in really well with the many damage-on-draw/discard spells I have suggested.
- Spiteful Visions : Like the above, not as coloured mana intensive, and also helps draw cards as well. Beware of when you play this though, as it may kill you first if you are reckless with it.
- Teferi's Puzzle Box : One of my all-time favourites. Not much in the draw to 7, but really ties in well with everything else.
- Psychosis Crawler : A bit expensive, but c'mon, you are drawing too!
- Skyscribing : Even if you can't make them draw 4 cards in one turn, the forecast really helps in slowly making each draw count.
- Magus of the Jar : Draw 7 cards and potentially discard all of them. Really potent.
- Reforge the Soul : Same effect, but with discard, and potential at only two mana? Woo!
- Wheel of Fate : Ticking Reforge the Soul bomb.
- Incendiary Command : Just like the others above, discard and draw 7, but with an added feature of being additional damage, a Pyroclasm , or a Fulminator Mage .

Bounce is key for tempo, Boomerang will help you deal with troublesome cards. also, perhaps sideboard BloodMoon It's a brutal card against many decks!
