Phyrexian Obliterator
- "Behold Blessed Perfection."
Phyrexian Negator
was always my favorite card when I started to become proficient at magic. It has since evolved into the ugly game ending creature it is today. And THEREFORE... I must build it.
My Favorite color to play in is Black because of the amount of Control it offers. I decided the best pairing of these two would be B/G, as they compliment each other nicely and have a vast majority of simply amazing control cards.
The Creatures -
Phyrexian Obliterator
- When played this card DEMANDS an answer immediately or the game will end by sacrifice or by force. unfortunately for this guy though, he is easily dealt with via cards like
Path to Exile
. So although a strong creature independently, I have built this deck to not only work well with
Phyrexian Obliterator
, but to have additional win conditions present.
Deathrite Shaman
- (Now BANNED) - This card SCREAMS for Modern play. Three abilities on a 1CMC is silly as is. Using fetch lands to ramp out the full potential of this deck is even better. Extremely useful for keeping an opponents GY in check AND allowing you to force loss of life on your opponent.
Scavenging Ooze
- The closest thing to the fantastic abilities of
Deathrite Shaman
. Thanks a ton Wizards. (Sarcasm) However, it does allow for you to prevent
Emrakul, the Aeons Torn
from going back into their library. Not only can it fuddle with Tron mechanics, but it also can ruin dredge decks, or
Arclight Phoenix
decks.
Courser of Kruphix
- Green and fetch lands? yes please! not only does he help you out with a little life here and there, but allows you to avoid the ugly top-deck a land for a stupid amount of turns. In addition, it's a 2/4 creature that can shield your life total for a few turns, and even exchange with a few of the classical meta cards. The downside is that your opponent is always going to see your next play. The hope is that there's nothing they can do about it.
Batterskull
- It took me a few weeks to find one, and every time i asked why they weren't in stock, the standard reply was: "Because it's BatterSkull..." And it's in this deck simply because it IS batterskull. It's the quintessential game over card that you never hope to see dropped when the game is still on the rocks. Turns an obliterator into a 9/9 vigilance lifelink trample i win button.
Treetop Village
- Yet another card i'm going to consider a creature. Very difficult for control decks to... Control. But a 3/3 trample to boot!
The Hand Control:
Thoughtseize
- This was an $80 dollar card less than a year ago. good for early and late game play.
Inquisition of Kozilek
- Wonderful for early game, but also most control spells themselves have very low CMCs making it ideal to protect your
Phyrexian Obliterator
when he emerges.
The Board Control:
Abrupt Decay
- Excellent card that was initially SB but decided to play in my starting lineup for the simple fact that it deals with just about everything that could tip the scales of a game in its early stages.
Assassin's Trophy
- An alternative version of
Abrupt Decay
that allows to destroy higher cmc permanents, although the drawback is it does give your opponent an early land advantage
Maelstrom Pulse
- This card hits EVERYTHING.... Except land.
Tokens, Enchantments, Creatures, Artifacts, Planeswalkers... The list goes on.
Collective Brutality
- This card synergizes well with this deck because of its multiple uses. It combines the powers of a selective discard, creature control, and lifegain in one spell, making it an extremely versatile card for this arsenal.
Slaughter Pact
- 0 CMC can throw an opponent's game if they're not paying attention. Because this deck generally disrupts much of your opponents intended plans, they often go for an "all-or-nothing" play when you're tapped out. This is a veritable monkey-wrench in their works. I've had opponents scoop after playing this card.
Dash Hopes
Liliana of the Veil
- She's in this deck because SHE'S SEXY. A REQUIRED card for almost ANY modern format black deck. Extremely powerful for this deck at all stages of the game. Liliana provides hand control, board control, and her ultimate is griefing at it's finest.
Now... I know most of my decks probably aren't "Optimal." That's okay. As you've probably also noticed, I put an interesting "One-of" in almost every deck I make and play with. It's a card that JUST MIGHT end the game for some unsuspecting victim. In this deck I have added ONE land in order to accomplish this:

Comment, Suggest and a +1 for
Phyrexian Obliterator
!!!!
P.S. The Sideboard is new and needs refinement for the 2019 year. Please comment and suggest to help me fine tune it. Many thanks.
