Erebos, God of the Dead's Totally Devoted to Death" is a powerful Mono Black Control commander deck designed to dominate the battlefield and control the game. This deck focuses on board control, lifegain, and devotion to maximize the potential of Erebos, God of the Dead. With a mix of creature control, recursion, and devastating win conditions, this deck offers a versatile and formidable playstyle.

Board Control and Devotion: "Erebos, God of the Dead's Totally Devoted to Death" excels at maintaining board control through a variety of means. Cards like Grave Pact, Vampire Nighthawk, and Phyrexian Obliterator not only provide strong creatures but also contribute to your devotion count for Erebos. Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx further enhances your devotion, generating abundant mana to fuel your strategies. Additionally, Abhorrent Overlord allows you to create a swarm of flying creatures, overwhelming your opponents and further increasing your devotion.

Lifegain and Card Advantage: Lifegain plays a crucial role in this deck, allowing you to pay life to draw additional cards using Erebos, God of the Dead's ability. Cards like Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Crypt Ghast, and Whip of Erebos provide significant lifegain, ensuring a steady flow of cards and sustaining your resources. Necropotence, a potent enchantment, offers unparalleled card advantage, allowing you to draw a plethora of cards at the cost of life.

Recursion and Recovery: To maintain resilience and adaptability, "Erebos, God of the Dead's Totally Devoted to Death" incorporates various recursion and recovery mechanisms. Balthor the Defiled, Disturbed Burial, and Strands of Night allow you to bring back key creatures from your graveyard, providing both value and strategic options. Whip of Erebos not only grants lifelink but also allows you to reanimate creatures, gaining additional benefits from their enter-the-battlefield or death triggers.

Win Conditions: This deck offers multiple win conditions to secure victory. Exsanguinate and Torment of Hailfire can drain opponents' life totals, capitalizing on the extensive mana generation and lifegain present in the deck. Gray Merchant of Asphodel, with its devotion-based drain effect, can be a game-ending play when combined with high devotion. Additionally, overwhelming your opponents with a swarm of creatures or controlling the board with cards like Massacre Wurm and Grave Pact can lead to a decisive victory.

Key Cards: Several key cards define the strength and strategy of "Erebos, God of the Dead's Totally Devoted to Death." Erebos, God of the Dead serves as the commander and provides card draw while preventing opponents from gaining life. Crypt Ghast and Cabal Stronghold amplify your mana generation, allowing you to cast spells and activate abilities more effectively. Liliana of the Dark Realms and Sorin Markov provide additional utility and control options, further strengthening your position on the battlefield.

I like Mono Black Control and this is a strong version for commander. Of course, my friends remember the huge game, 9 vs. 9, when my teammate Mindslavered several opponents and me with his broken Arcum Daggson deck, killing me with my own Necropotence from my lofty life total of 102 (thanks to Gray Merchant of Asphodel). This deck can win from a few angles but mostly via board control. It has lots of lifegain to pay for cards from Erebos, God of the Dead's ability. It has devotion cards, like Grave Pact and Vampire Nighthawk, Abhorrent Overlord, Phyrexian Obliterator and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. Massacre Wurm is a house. Of course there is recursion like Balthor the Defiled, Disturbed Burial, Strands of Night, Whip of Erebos and more to make everything go your way after a long game.

Conclusion: "Erebos, God of the Dead's Totally Devoted to Death" is a formidable Mono Black Control commander deck that excels in board control, lifegain, and devotion. With a focus on resource management, recursion, and powerful win conditions, this deck offers a versatile and strategic gameplay experience. Harness the power of Erebos and dominate the battlefield, leaving your opponents in the grip of death and despair.
