The combo is a little risky because it can't play until turn 5 and it takes 2 turns to execute so you are very susceptible to having it wiped out on your opponents turn. Especially in a tournament where they can side in enchantment removal.

So you need to stay in the game long enough to play it and still have a way to win if it falls flat. I play the Slitherhead and Lotleth Troll combo (discard and scavenge for a 4/4 on turn 2 but you likely need your low drop creatures to chump block. So you might replace him. Elvish Mystic will get you to your combo quicker and Experiment One is a nice card.

Side in some removal if you run up against Scavenging Ooze . You may want to mainboard some just in case. The are plenty to choose from.

Trostani's Summoner would be interesting as far as reloading the battlefield. Discard it onto Lotleth Troll and then bring back multiple creatures that stay. It is white mana if you play it straight up but that's not your play,

Dreg Mangler is a nice hasty 3/3 but the Scavenge is just too costly and by then you should be executing your combo. Take a look at Witchstalker

I love Desecration Demon . It is a great distraction card.

On last idea, if you are dumping that many cards into your graveyard you risk not ever pulling a Whip of Erebos so I would up Treasured Find to 4x.

@IonImplant - thank you for your input, you have given me a lot to consider.

Trostani's Summoner is an interesting suggestion, I will have to try it out and see if it fits well and if I should add in maybe Sylvan Caryatid with it so I could still cast it from hand late game.

I'll have to play test the Elvish Mystic to see if the mana accel is better than the deathtouch blocker or the free scavage.

I agree that most of the time I end up putting my Dreg Mangler into the grave and never scavenging it, so you are 100% correct there.

I love Desecration Demon as well, might try to replace Dreg Mangler with him.

As for your last point, Commune with the Gods lets me pick a creature of enchantment. So roughly half the cards I dump into the grave will let me choose the whip from the 5 cards. Also this is why there are 4 copies of it as well encase I do put Whip of Erebos in the grave. So far I find that Treasured Find usually goes unneeded.

Also, do you think that Pithing Needle and Hunt the Hunter would work well as counters to Scavenging Ooze ?

Once again I would like to thank you for you advice, and I will let you know how the testing goes.

I don't think Pithing Needle works because the exile on Ooze is a mana ability, You can use Hunt the Hunter for 1 mana but it requires you to have something on the board to fight it and if you don't then it is strong quick and won't work. Check out Doom Blade , Ultimate Price , Abrupt Decay or Putrefy . They cost more but are more versatile.

Me and a friend was looking at it, take out the Grey Merchant because you don't have any black devotion.

Also you might wana look at Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord and get ready to have trouble with ooze.

@Ti22_HipHero - I'll play test with Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord, however the whip and him have some clashing. but his sac ability is very nice. grey merchant on the other hand has been very nice so far. worse case ping for 2 and gives me a blocker, it has won me some games so far though, so it will stay unless lich lord out preforms it.

Looks like a really solid deck, in your sideboard I think you should replace Naturalize with Sundering Growth because of Giant Adephage tokens. +1

To reflect on this comment, a 'mana ability' refers to an ability that produces mana and not an ability that requires it for activation. Pithing Needle would definitely be an answer to Scavenging Ooze and Deathrite Shaman .

Putrefy says... #9

@ Rathnait that's wrong. Ooze's exile is an activated ability that goes on the stack. Mana abilities are abilities like Elvish Mystic .

I was quoting a previous comment.

My statement was underneath the quote. :)

@Kelm great idea with the Sundering Growth . My personal main concern with it would be the mana restrictions. I doubt that it will be a problem, but due to the fact that a Giant Adephage token being on the field usually means game, I want to make sure that the mana constraints are hardly a hassle before I add them to the actual deck.

Also thank you Rathnait and Putrefy with the rules clarification. Pithing Needle just an amazing sideboard card so it is nice to know that it will stop the deck's two main weaknesses.

And thank you everyone for the +1s

Kalonian Hydra trumps Skarrg Goliath . Otherwise I like it. Check out my deck Golgari Fling.

@jyork1213 I agree that Kalonian Hydra is 100x better, however there are 3 reasons I have Skarrg Goliath instead right now. 1)cost ,kalonian is $15-$20, 2) bloodrush is really hard to counter vs control, (my 1/1 turns into a 10/10 trample), and 3) cost again, $45-$60 total nearly doubles the price.

I think I will eventually add Kalonian Hydra , but for now I will have to settle for Skarrg Goliath .

Nice deck. I think that you could afford to put in some Golgari Guildgate to help fix your mana a bit better, seeing that you have no one-drops. Overall I feel that your curve is decently high, but if you can pull the right kill-spells and get to the mid-late game then you should be golden. How does Erebos, God of the Dead work for you? Against Mono-Black/Gary decks I'm sure that it pulls its weight but I see it more as a sideboard card.

@Thornbrow good point with the guildgates, adding them now. As for Erebos, God of the Dead you may be right. I have been going back and forth on whether to have him in the main or sideboard. His main use is to generate card advantage in stalemates vs control and some midranges everything else is mostly gravy. Although he is usually a dead draw vs aggro. If i move him to the sideboard do you have any ideas what I should main instead of him?

Thornbrow says... #16

I think that you could do with some Hero's Downfall to help against control matchups, or RG Monsters (for Domri Rade and Xenagos, The Reveler ). I'd also move the Whip of Erebos down to a 3-of, since its Legendary status will make it a dead draw if you get more than one in your hand.

And to smooth out your curve I'd either go Deathrite Shaman or Elvish Mystic . DRS is incredible in this deck because you gain so much utility once you start casting your Grisly Salvage and Commune with the Gods . Just my two cents.

quadspell1 says... #17

I did have Deathrite Shaman in an early testing build of this deck, but I found that I ended up chump blocking him vs aggro or he would get killed within a turn of being played. So I will try him or Elvish Mystic back in the deck.

an i ask why Kalonian Hydra is in the deck? he seems out of place. You can't whip him back for any value so once hes in the grave he's useless to you.

Kalonian Hydra enters the battlefield with 4 +1/+1. this includes from the grave
