Maybeboard

Secret commander: Ob Nixilis, Unshackled. Drain your opponents to death with repeated forced searches - see especially Field of Ruin, but also Fertilid, Collective Voyage, Pir's Whim and Scheming Symmetry.

This is a collaborative project with my friend Caeruleus - my commander and win condition concept and his initial execution. I expect that this version will gradually drift from his tight construction over time due to my willingness to sacrifice efficiency for theme/flavour/pet cards and the fact that I am just worse at the game. You can find the uncorrupted original here: https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/edh-bg-eniris-scion-search/?cb=1659588259

The current version focuses on answering the board rather than protecting the win condition - timing will be everything. Note that this deck purposefully avoids some of the more obvious/common large life drain effects (including Ob Nixilis, the Fallen) and more traditional lands deck win conditions (e.g. Field of the Dead). Last Laugh might help along the way, but the point is to at least mostly win with Ob Nixilis, Unshackled!

Opposition Agent seems like a no-brainer but it does have a bad habit of making you public enemy number one, so testing without for now. Also trying to avoid reserved list cards, but might consider them if very useful (possibly Winding Canyons?). Other forced search options not presently included as they are too slow or risky: Maralen of the Mornsong, Varragoth, Bloodsky Sire, Avatar of Growth.

This idea has been knocking around in my head for a while but mono-black never quite felt like it had enough options for forced searching or recurring Field of Ruin, and I was awaiting a more niche lands commander than Lord Windgrace or The Gitrog Monster. Sarulf, Realm Eater is a possible alternate commander to keep the game under control until you are in position. You could also try mono-black led by Maralen of the Mornsong, Varragoth, Bloodsky Sire or Ob Nixilis, Unshackled himself, but I think it's a bit too slow and/or telegraphed, and you are often tutoring your opponents the tools to deal with it. The BG version should be able to drain an awful lot of life in one turn if everything goes to plan, and in the meantime can ramp and answer the board better. As for backgrounds, Scion of Halaster obviously has some synergy, but is probably not essential if you wanted to try one of the other black backgrounds. Agent of the Shadow Thieves might work for safe attack triggers, although it does make Erinis a more obvious onboard threat.
