This is my spin on mono black hand destructionwith a small blue splash to allow for Havengul Lich shenanigans (I'll explain later) and quicken.
Main Deck Card Choices:
Ravenous Rats
- great early chump blocker who helps eat away at an opponent's card advantage, and also enables a silly combo.
Heartless Summoning
- makes my limited manabase tolerable to cast Griselbrand and Havengul Lich without difficulty. Also is part two of 3 of a silly combo. Changes the text of
Ravenous Rats
to B: Target player discards a cards.
Havengul Lich - oh yes this bad boy. Seems like an odd choice but together with
Heartless Summoning
and
Ravenous Rats
, he allows you with an endless way to reanimate
Ravenous Rats
, they discard, it dies, and you can repeat as many times as you like.to have total lockdown of their hand. You can also reanimate a departed Griselbrand with him. All in all he is an all-star board controller in this deck.
Griselbrand - The king of mono black. Solid brick wall, even with Heartless Summoning out. Lifelink card draw, this guy just does it all.
Mind Rot - not the best but even one can be painful especially if an opponent has played a lot of cards in the first few turns.
Quicken
/ Sign in Blood - card draw to help lad your threats. Also, instant speed Mutilate is nice.
Mutilate, Devour Flesh, Doom Blade, Tragic Slip - the removal package.
Liliana of the Veil - Hand destruction, and more removal.
Shrieking Affliction - Last but not least the real win con most people don't see coming. Assuming you've been killing their hand off, once this hits the field it puts the opponent in a tough position, continue to play cards and lose life, or wait to play stuff to refill their hand buying you time. Even with life gain it is very, very hard to race and most people g1 aren't prepared to deal with it.
Sideboard picks
Lifebane Zombie
because Selesnya pisses me off.
Duress for control/spell heavy decks
Vampire Nighthawk for creature-heavy decks
Another Mutilate and some Far / Away for more removal
Cavern of Souls, because Dissipate / Syncopate / Render Silent / Counterflux / Cancel can suck it lol.
