FNM Report #1 —Feb. 2, 2014
Went 2-1 overall at FNM this week, 0-2 to Selesnya Enchantments, 2-1 against a Izzet Burn, 2-0 against Jund Land Destruction.
Selesnya - I just had no chance to stop what he was putting out, he was playing at least 2 creatures a turn after turn 3 due to the low cost of the cards. I didn't have enough to block or kill with in either game.
Izzet Burn - First game I lost. Kept two watery graves in hand and drew into a third land at turn 6 which was too little too late. Game 2 I was able to cancel out things happening and kill whatever I saw come out for him, turn 9 I tapped out with a Sanguine Bond on board to do a 20 damage hit with Debt to the Deathless. Game 3 was more back and forth getting me down to 6 life and I got him to 12 when I got Obzedat to stick after another Debt to the Deathless hit for 8, game was over from there.
Jund Land Destruction - Game 1 Was a total crap shoot for both of us, we both mulled to 5 then it took 6 turns for me to see 4 lands for a Desecration Demon and he had found a third land by turn 9 which led to no blocks against the demon. Game 2 was more interesting. We both saw good land right away, which for me meant I would lose half of it to destruction spells, which I did. I was lucky though because with what he was doing I would have flooded otherwise. This disappointed him due to the fact that every time I lost a land I top decked another one, eventually I outpaced his destruction (Lucky I never saw an Ember Swallower) and I hit for 6 from another Debt to the Deathless after a couple unblocked Obzedat, Ghost Council hits.
After Selesnya I decided I would replace an Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver with Elspeth, Sun's Champion so I could deal with creatures a little better late game.
jasperbarton I wasn't too sure about Devour Flesh because I thought Far / Away might handle that fine, the rest of the cards that are "standard" for Esper control I don't actually own any of. I would love to be running Thoughtseize instead of Duress but duress is my fallback there. Is there another way I can generate card advantage besides Read the Bones you would suggest for this?

Omenspeaker and Desecration Demon don't really belong in Esper Control. The only creature you need is AEtherling . Then, just fill the board with card advantage (Jace, Sphinx's Revelation ), Supreme Verdict , Thoughtseize , Detention Sphere , Etc.However, it is a pretty good deck for just cards you own.Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver is a one of. Maybe one Ratchet Bomb Mainboarded (That's just me, some others might disagree). Also, Take a look at Devour Flesh (Pretty standard in Esper Control.)
