My main concern is that having more land means less removal/counters which means this deck can't survive. So far, this amount of land has been working for me but thanks, I will certainly consider adding more land if I start to have problems.

i playtested it and i noticed that you have six cards that win which is 1 aetherling 2 jaces and 3 nephalia drownyards. if i were you i may remove the opportunity for another aetherling or another jace

I think I'm probably going to switch out the Opportunity for Sphinx's Revelation if I go into Esper so I'm leaving it in for the moment to compare it to Sphinx. What do people think about this deck moving towards Esper?

may or may not be what your looking for but if you want more instant, Quicken could be a good answer.

If you go to esper, I find Silence to be one of the best cards for control decks to have. there are just so many uses for it, trying to resolve that AEtherling in a control matchup? cast Silence first! Need an extra turn to build up that Sphinx's Revelation (another amazing card you'll have access to with esper)? Silence , and kill any advances your opponent can make during that turn. I expect to see it in many many esper decks very soon.

The problem I have with Silence is that Silence does nothing by itself. It's nice when I'm resolving something big but what if because I run Silence instead of some removal or a counter, I don't have enough removal or counters? It will just stay dead in my hand until I try to resolve something big. Silence certainly wouldn't be one of my reasons for going Esper. It's a nice thought but it just doesn't do enough.

For the same reason, I don't want Quicken - again it does nothing by itself and I have no sorceries I want to Quicken so it wouldn't work in this deck at all.

On the other hand, Sphinx's Revelation is already one of my main reasons for considering moving into Esper.

If you have a problem with Cavern of Souls then try sideboarding an Encroaching Wastes

Esper will also give you access to cards like Detention Sphere , Oblivion Ring , Azorius Charm , Supreme Verdict , and Render Silent .

@senken12: I don't really see Cavern of Souls that much anymore. If it becomes big again (at least until it rotates out) I'll sideboard Encroaching Wastes .

@tomorsomthing: Yeah I think I'm going to move to Esper.

Keep AEtherling in, it'll be hard to win without him. While it is technically possible to win by attacking with Restoration Angel , but you'll find it tough to do so without other threats.

I still have all my mill in - Nephalia Drownyard and Jace, Memory Adept . I think that and the Restoration Angel /Snapcaster Mage beatdown will be enough win conditions. Plus I have a lot of fairly expensive cards in now and I don't want too many dead draws. I'll try without AEtherling for the moment and if I have difficulty winning, I'll add it back in.

If you're running esper, don't you think Psychic Strike will be better than Dissipate ? It helps your milling a bit, while still serves as a good counter.

Psychic Strike is nice but it's not as good against flashback or against things like Unburial Rites or other graveyard-based effects. I don't think the two card mill is worth sacrificing all the advantages of Dissipate . If Dissipate rotates out and nothing better rotates in, I'll certainly use Psychic Strike though.

This deck looks OBNOXIOUS. I like it.

August 21, 2013 7:34 p.m.

You should mainboard Ghost Quarter as at least a one of so you're at least somewhat ready for a cavern in play, with maybe one or two in sideboard depending how much you hate it.

I really don't like Ghost Quarter as a card. I'd be much more likely to play Encroaching Wastes but right now I don't see Cavern of Souls very much in my meta so if it becomes big again, I'll include options to fight it.

August 23, 2013 3:23 a.m.

You might need one of these cards to fight off Sliver decks, though.

With Mutavault you mean? I've had a chance to test it against a few sliver decks and my instant-speed removal was enough to hold them off.

August 23, 2013 12:06 p.m.

The sliver decks in my meta have been playing cavern, door of destinies, and mutavault. Maybe not all at once, but in some combination.

Well land destruction doesn't deal with Door of Destinies (Detention Sphere should do fine) and I haven't seen all that many Caverns. I guess I'll see.

August 23, 2013 12:46 p.m.

Yeah. Good luck. Sliver decks always get me.
