Well, what if you playtest first with leyline and then with RIP?

I don't have even half of this deck put together yet, I still am needing a good chunk of the main pieces to the deck. Unfortunately this will require removing several pieces from my current Modern deck I use On Stranger Tides, specifically for the Mutavault , Remand , and maybe the Spell Pierce .

The rest of the cards I need I'm going to have to buy outright it looks like, and the pieces I'm missing aren't exactly cheap.

No, I meant, playtest it on tappedout, untappedin or wherever you want. Virtually.

I mean... I have been, mainly to see what my turn rate is on dropping Emmy or Blightsteel. Just seems really redundant when I'm not playing a single turn win deck :/

And also... I was freaking stupid for not thinking about adding Stony Silence into the sideboard as it shuts down two of the biggest decks in my local meta. Freaking stupid ass Pod. If I need to throw them in I just take out Proteus Staff for them!

Well, the side now seems ok, the main too. If I find something good I'll post it. Keep going :)

Thanks! And thanks for the up vote!

Your land base is wierd... There is a pretty bug chance that you wont draw any colored land, in which case you are knda screwed. I would fix that, and drop the Remand for a better counterspell.

Over half the land base is colored... So yeah I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be drawing out 2 Mutavault and 3 Boseiju, Who Shelters All in a single hand...

Also, if you can find a better 2 drop counter spell in Modern, PLEASE let me know. Since I'm only trying to keep the opponent off for 3 -4 turns of casting spells that could interrupt my hand... I think I'm safe playing Remand . But no, I'm not adding in Dissolve or Cancel , even though my 3 drop slot is low, mainly because they are color intensive. All of my colored land taps for blue, and that shouldn't be a problem really when it comes down to it. Casting Remand or Spell Pierce are going to save my buns. I thought about Dispel but lets face it, it is not just instants and a few sorcery spells that are going to kill me.

Please make recommendations if you suggest removing a card. Especially a Modern staple in control.

And for those curious the reason the 3CMC slot is so bare is for when I have to switch to Faerie beat down and side in Scion of Oona , my 3 slot won't be slammed full of counters and will have have something of some value to drop down.

Remand is one of the best counter-spells in modern. counter a spell without losing card advantage? yes please.

Why Jalira, Master Polymorphist in the sideboard?

That build of esper control isn't gonna hold off decks long enough to play blightsteel. Or emrakul. Even in the scenario when you're playing against another control deck, they get insta pathed if you try to polymorph them. If you want to prevent combo decks and aggro from happening, you need more Surgical Extraction for combos, and Ghostly Prison s for aggro, as well as some Inquisition of Kozilek

rougeweasel says... #13

OH CRAP I MISSED THE BITTERBLOSSOMS NEVERMIND. STILL THOSE 3 CARDS ARE GOOD ADDITIONS.

July 31, 2014 6:37 a.m.

-MisterJ- says... #14

You will kindly notice the fact that the Inquisitions are in the maybe board as well as 4 mainboard thoughtseize, and the two silence help with that scenario you present as well. But i tend to believe that 2 silence, and 8 counters should allow my to resolve the combo. As far as surgical extraction, extirpate is strictly better, since it also kills the stack. So no, i wont be adding that in.

And to those that wonder why i only have two creatures IN THE DECK... I WANT TO POLYMORPH INTO EMRAKUL AND BLIGHTSTEEL. As i said in my description, if some how this combo wont work against a deck, i will side in Jalira, take out the beasts, and go faerie beat down with scions!

And as I've mentioned before, please, if you suggest a card, thats awesome.... But try making room for it and justify the removal of something else in ints stead. Yes, the cards you listed would be excellent, but unfortunately I live in a 60 card world where i don't have room for everything.

I prefer the fetch land into a Dryad Arbor and Polymorph ing from there, but I suppose this works too.

I mean... Sure...

2 things about that though that Faerie's have easy advantage over turn 3... Scion of Oona . Shroud is a B**** to get around. It protects my 1) Mutavault and 2) Bitterblossom tokens. While, no at that point I can't Polymorph them, I can in fact Polymorph Scion of Oona instead. And yes, removal still hurts her, that's wasting a spell to hit the Lord effect over removing any one of many other creature's I have instead.

Plus Dryad Arbor is just sitting there, waving in the wind, waiting to be morphed from turn 1 to 3 or 4. And it doesn't allow me to cast Inquisition of Kozilek or Thoughtseize or even Spell Pierce turn 1. I'm cool on that.

i'm curious why you aren't running Progenitus , dodges just about every removal that you CAN dodge. even Emrakul, the Aeons Torn dies to a royal assassin

August 2, 2014 10:57 p.m.

-MisterJ- says... #19

But how many people run Royal Assassin in Modern? Fact of the matter is, in most any meta, you resolve an Emrakul and the opponent has MAYBE one turn to deal with it. Depends on if I can give it haste in my case. Reason #2 is I can't equip a Progenitus with Lightning Greaves to end the game that much faster.

But over all I like the idea and if I can get a hold of one I might do that instead of Blightsteel Colossus . Only difference is what deck I'm playing against.

Thanks for the awesome idea. When I first had this deck idea my only big two beasties that end the game in 1 or two swings I could think of is Emrakul and Blightsteel, but yeah. Progen is a bitch to get rid of. Only chance is a wrath effect or to make me sac it.

Path to Exile kills Blightsteel Colossus but does not kill Progenitus .

August 3, 2014 2:05 a.m.

-MisterJ- says... #21

While I agree, Blightsteel Colossus kills another player the turn he hits them. And can get Greaves.

I'm leaning towards Progenitus anyways, but yeah.

August 3, 2014 2:22 a.m.

I've been using my deck ProgEmrakul, the Opponents Ragequit since I started and I've tried all different fatties, but I've found that Emrakul always comes out on top, with Progenitus in second, followed by Blightsteel/Griselbrand. Progenitus simply doesn't die to basically anything except the singleton main board Wrath of God some UWR controllers have, while Blightsteel goes down to the set of Path they ALL have. I like the insta-drops, greaves, game, but it's just too unreliable. I know our decks use totally different ways of dropping fatties, but even with Polymorph, Progenitus always seems better. Plus, you free up space for other things.

-MisterJ- says... #23

Yeah I've been thinking here the last hour or so to drop the greaves slide in some Inquisition of Kozilek and maybe drop the git probes. But I love the look at hand stuff. We'll see once I'm closer to actually getting the deck actually playable.

August 3, 2014 2:59 a.m.

Inquisition lets you see their hand too. While it doesn't give you cards, it makes them lose them instead. If you were replacing Greaves with Inquisitions, I'd drop the probes and complete the set of Silence, because fuck the opponent's turns XD

August 3, 2014 3:18 a.m.

-MisterJ- says... #25

In the first build I had a set of Silence on board and my my trustee's managed to talk me out of it since "it is such a bad Modern card. But you know... Shutting down an opponents board to ONLY playing instants upon entering Upkeep is pretty sweet stuff. Then turn rotates back to me and we're still at instant speed for the opponent... Hmm. Seems good. I might do that (again) once I'm actually in the last few steps of having the deck completed.
