Estrid's Masquerade -

The cEDH deck built to kill combos

For when your meta is a lot of fast combo, and you don't want to just race them instead.

Flash Hulk, Food Chain, Storm, Reanimators are over represented in your meta.
Stax them out with a very aggressive, proactive plan, then protect those pieces with Estrid masks.

  1. This deck probably get's mashed by a lot of midrange, value-driven casual decks. They will out-value you.
  2. With Flash Hulk, this deck often times still won't do enough to not lose to flash hulk.
  1. Mulligan hard to get either plenty of ramp or (preferably both) a turn 1 stax piece that shuts off a combo.
  2. Play stax pieces so you have at least two.
  3. Play Estrid, mask a stax piece.
  4. Keep masking stax piece and assembling more. Depending on your ramp, its ok to let Estrid die by masking three permanents in a row.
  5. Eventually work your way into one of the game-winning (ish) combos / setups:

Decree of Silence + Solemnity Counters all but uncounterable spells your opponents cast.

Stasis + Estrid, the Masked lock down your opponent's untap steps. Note: This doesn't actually win the game, but if you can protect it and play it at the right time, you should have it locked up.

Luminarch Ascension can eventually become inevitable.

  1. Do play selected Stax pieces that stop fast combo.
  2. Do play Estrid to protect your Stax pieces with totem armor. Remember, these can all get bounced. Cyclonic rift is basically your nightmare, but, if all three players are on fast combo, people either won't let that resolve, or will try to win in response.
  3. Do NOT play Stax pieces that shut off mana resources - Estrid can eventually break parity but not by enough, and not as fast as other fast combo decks can just fight through it.
  4. Do NOT play interaction - there are a handful of instants in the deck with very specific roles, but for the most part we are looking to use most/all of our mana each turn advancing our game plan, which is building an army of hatebears, enchantments, and artifacts. You do not have room for the extra slots, and you can't afford to not be advancing your game plan.
  5. Do NOT play this into a midrange, casual, 75% meta. Sort of like Blood Pod, it will get ruined.
