With 20 instants, isn't it worth using Inspiration in place of Pilfered Plans ?

Unless you really like the mill, which is nice against scry, I imagine you're always leaving mana up on their turn to counter / answer something, so why not be able to draw if they just pass?

@Dasistgutja,Thanks a lot for the suggestion! The instant speed draw is definitely worth the additional mana and I'm not particularly attached to the mill. I was just playing it cause it was a better Divination .

I thought about giving you a bunch of recommendations and cuts. If you have been playing Magic only for 8 months, this is a good build. You should take it to tournaments and learn for yourself what is good and what isn't.

@Larty,

Is there anything in particular that's glaringly bad that I should remove? I just don't wanna end up getting wrecked as soon as I walk through the door if I can help it.

Claim of Erebos. It's not even playable in limited because it just ends up getting two-for-one-ed. The "upside" of making your opponent lose life is so marginal and costly.

That makes sense. What do you think of Witches' Eye as an alternative to a permanent way to tap Pain Seer ?

I'd try Springleaf Drum instead. extra mana is always useful. Also, I'd use Pilfered Plans over Opportunity . Gets you cards earlier and with the amount of scry in format, it can be really disruptful.

I like the idea of Springleaf Drum as well. Makes it easier to respond during their turn. Its also a bit more mana efficient. That's gonna be a tough call though. I think I'll have to play test it some to decide what's more beneficial. I kind of like the flexibility of Inspiration over Pilfered Plans though. Thanks for the suggestions!

I've been working on a similar idea with Desecration Demon and Pain Seer however I bring in Kiora's Follower to untap the demon and seer, makes things work out a bit smoother;

I like the idea! Your deck looks like it would be pretty scary if you got what you needed out. However, I like the consistency of running dual color instead of tri color. I tend to have the absolute worst luck when it comes to land draw. Also I can't afford those Kioras :p Thanks for the suggestion though!

Just FYI, unless they pass you priority, you can't use Hero's Downfall to destroy a planeswalker before they can use their +1.

Oh yeah. I just looked that up and you're right. Haha, I kind of feel bad. I've done that to several of my friends :p Thanks for the heads up!

lol same build as a mill deck without all the good cards sorry -1

@VooDoo187
That would probably be more helpful if you mentioned what the "good" cards are exactly. In my opinion, it's more like Esper control without the white.

Side notion theif for control match ups that will have sphinx's revelation and stuff. +1

I like the idea of Notion Thief in the sideboard over Thoughtseize . Thoughtseize is more of a mainboard card anyway, I just don't know where I'd put it. Thanks a lot for the suggestion!

I love the deck, but my suggestion is to sideboard a Jace, Memory Adept for those long hall games against other control decks. The reason I run him in my deck This is FNM is for that very reason. He's excellent card advantage and can even become a win condition by decking an opponent. Just a suggestion. +1 from me though.

@kyle_vanerp
Thanks a lot! I like the idea of running Jace, Memory Adept , his mana cost just scares me off a bit. If I get a hold of one though, I'll definitely have to consider siding it in. I don't think I'm happy with Drown in Sorrow in the sideboard so I'm looking for a replacement.

I like the idea of Opportunity more than Inspiration but other than that I love the decklist, +1 from me for sure

@Berksqerd
I've thought about running Opportunity instead, I'm just afraid of the mana cost :p it may be something I should try play testing though. Thanks for the suggestion!

Slap me if my TL;DR attitude makes this comment irrelevant because I don't know if you can't afford, or would rather not have Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx or Mutavault in your deck. Honestly Mutavault you could live without, but you have a decent amount of swamp devotion in this deck, and Nykthos could give you that 1 turn mana boost you need to get your demon out and have enough mana left to defend yourself from counters.

TehDot says... #23

@Salient_Z
I actually wouldn't mind getting some Mutavault to put in here, even if it might hurt my land drops a bit. It's just gonna take me a while before I can afford them :p
I'm not sure Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx would help me out too much though. It's been my experience that I can only keep one creature on the field at any given time. Might be helpful if I drop a Nightveil Specter , since he would give me an additional mana, but I don't think I have enough permanents in this deck to make it worth running. Thanks a lot for your suggestions!

Ooh, this deck is nasty! Lots of strong threats and answers. I'll have to play-test it to be sure, but it looks like it has some smooth action.+1 from me.
