What about Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest as an alternate win con ish?

Tried him in the beginning. Not effective enough to run over what I have now, and no need for any more outs than I've got. He's a good card though.

n0bunga, Let me first say thanks. I always get a kick out of hearing that people are trying out my decks. I know it's a big investment, but in all honesty, this deck IS pretty strong, so worth it, I think.

Regarding your suggestions:

Lake of the Dead: I tested it and yes, it CAN be very strong, but I found it to be a bit too self-destructive for my taste, often burning me out and leaving me sputtering if I came up against resistance and didn't win outright

Dryad Arbor: Great card. I just prefer to be able to tap immediately, which the Arbor can't, and I don't see a ton of upside to having a 1/1 attacker. Personal call really

Slippery Karst: Great card, I ran it, but cut it recently for space reasons only

Scapeshift: Another card I tried, but didn't really like. With scapeshift, you only get one card from Gitrog, which is sad

Three Visits: I have and did run it, but cut it when I cut most land ramp spells due to needing space for other stuff.

Dude, your suggestions are great, and I recommend you try them for yourself in your build. They might be great in your meta. Either way, be sure to et me know how the deck runs for you. All the best, and ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD

Ok, time for some community input. I'd like to put in Seasons Past, but don't know what to cut. Should I cut another regrowth effect, like Eternal Witness, Greenwarden of Murasa or Creeping Renaissance, or something else like Worm Harvest, Raven's Crime or.... Something else?

Catgroove, n0bunga, or anyone else, what do you think?

I'm thinking Raven's Crime...

  1. Putrid Imp
  2. Noose Constrictor
  3. Zombie Infestation.

Not a huge fan of these 3 but i can see why youd keep noose constrictor. 1 for 1 discard at any time, seems quite useful sometimes despite a semi-weak creature without lots of cards in hand. But it can be very helpful getting dredge cards in he grave and such.Putrid imp is a "why?" Personally i would drop that (or noose, preferred this) for your Seasons Past. You have plenty of discard and stuff as it is, dropping one shouldnt hurt too badly. You also have plenty of other 1-drops to bring back with seasons past that would be more beneficial, such as your explore or sol ring.Zombie infestation would be good seemingly at early game or if you had a few cards like azusa out, but until then it seems more detrimental. This may have saved you before as i can think of a few reasons it wouldve. so, this one id need your input asto how well it works. Other than that, since this is before your input, i would say drop it for the seasons past if you dont want to drop imp or constrictor

Athraithe I heavily disagree with your choices of cuts. The free discard outlets are super powerful in this deck as they drastically speed up not only the decks mid game once the master (Praise be onto him) hits the field, but also our end game being able to reach one of our wincons. Or even in the case Zombie Infestation is a wincon.

I don't think that Seasons Past is that great here, but if you want it my first thought would be to cut Greenwarden of Murasa. It's the same CMC so in my mind you are trading a ok body for at most five more cards added back.

Don't even think about Raven's Crime. Just don't do it. Trust me. No. Just no. This card is so good in this deck. It acts as a cycle for B in the early game, and in the mid to late game it clears opponents hand to let us combo out. Worm Harvest is a decent card and good in 8 or 9/10 versions of the deck. I've cut it from my all in combo variation, but wouldn't suggest cutting it in your in your version. Yours is more midrange and can greatly benefit from a mass of easy blockers. The worst thing I can say about the card in your version, is that it's not instant speed, but on the other hand that would just be too good.

The only other real option that I could think of for this deck to play a mass regrowth would be Praetor's Counsel, but that is just WAY to high of a CMC for my tastes. Especially since you don't have Gaea's Cradle.

Other possible cuts that I've already written about are Zuran Orb or Lord of Extinction.

I know this is off topic- but could I get help with combining colored text and header at the same time? I can get one, but it always cancels off the other.

Sure, you mean largrer text and coplour at the same time? I use:
< h1 >< b >< font style="color: green; text-shadow: 1px 1px 2px black, -1px 1px 2px black, 1px -1px 2px black, -1px -1px 2px black;" > Minus the spaces before and after the > and < symbols

Yeah n0bunga that's mostly it. It a great card and I did run it at one point but just ended up cutting it.

have you considered Rude Awakening? you already have tutors, Splendid Reclamation, Seasons Past and Squandered Resources basically meaning you're one card short of that infinite mana combo

i dont want to be rude, but is it nescersary to put everything in foil? it kinda distorts the price of the cards

August 22, 2016 1:14 p.m.

Ender666666 says... #17

It is necessary. This is the deck I have, foils and all. No distortion.

August 22, 2016 4:22 p.m.

almalong says... #18

As for the combo it is fairly complicated but we will say you have Demonic Tutor Rude Awakening and Seasons Past, say you have 15 mana when you tap all your lands, so float 15, cast rude go to 10 untapped go to 25 cast demonic for whatever or seasons past go to 23, cast seasons past go to 16 put demonic and rude in your hand all lands tapped already you have netted 1 mana from when you had all lands tapped with rude and demonic in hand a moment ago, repeat until you have necessary mana cast Exsanguinate, also rude has just amazing value with Squandered Resources and Splendid Reclamation making the loop above easier

Sultai & Golgari are my mains and remain my favourites. Here are my thoughts:

First 42 lands seems slightly excessive. I'd remove at least 1 in favour of Hermit Druid. If you combo this with something Splendid Reclamation you're laughing.

I'd also recommend removing Riftsweeper, Swiftfoot Boots and Lightning Greaves. Imho Golgari's main strength lies in being able to recycle. If you find Gitrog being focussed then add other high priority threats such as Meren of Clan Nel Toth and Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest instead of adding cards that attempt pillowfort your general. I do agree with your use of Sylvan Safekeeper but that's because it plays to your generals theme and strength. If you were to insist on having these features then Eldrazi Monument & Asceticism would be better choices considering that they're more versatile, cover your entire boardstate and considering how much mana you're going to be packing they are less likely to be dead draw cards as they might be in, let's say, a Meren Deck. Whilst on the topic of stuff wot protects creatures, Yavimaya Hollow Should be in your deck.

Last point on survivability cards, Whip of Erebos can also be a nice choice for keeping you healthy but this card shines best with cards like Kessig Cagebreakers, Pathbreaker Ibex, Craterhoof Behemoth & things like Tree of Perdition since people often forget the 'Haste' element of the reanimation and since it only costs 4 CMC it's easy to wombocombo a dead craterhoof with something like Worm Harvest

Also, in a deck like this I'd be more tempted to include another sub-"wincon" by way of tokens. So Titania, Protector of Argoth + Doubling Season would go nicely in this deck especially when you consider how well that would synergise with other existing elements in your deck, Rampaging Baloths, Worm Harvest and Zombie Infestation. Imagine how silly this could be with the addition of Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest

With regards to Greenwarden of Murasa, I've always disliked this card. I don't like the cost and I don't like the exile element on the second trigger. If you want the extra recursion then you'd be better off with Verdant Confluence or Nyx Weaver. Even Glissa, the Traitor offers better value imo. Nyx can block something and then grab something from the GY if it's about to die and you have mana, (which you should). As for Glissa, she's a first striker with deathtouch, meaning she's a tough cookie and a bit of a badass that can block and kill nearly everything without taking any damage. Of course she can't block fliers and she'll take damage if she blocks another first strike monster however she's highly effective at blocking fatties especially if they're trying to be cute with trample.

With regards to spot removal, World Breaker plays very well with your general otherwise I would recommend adding Terastodon.

Other token generation and +1/+1 counter creature suggestions: Creakwood Liege, Mycloth and Bloodspore Thrinax. Otherwise Dark Salvation has good potential.

Also Eldritch Evolution should be in any deck that runs a decent amount of recursion.

Strionic Resonator & Mimic Vat Could be highly effective in this deck

I've given a lot of suggestions here, All of them should give you something to think about.

Hey r-kane, thank for your comments. I love hearing other people's thoughts on how they'd approach building their version of the deck.

Your suggestions are all good, but I'm not sure which if any are right for my build. I'll keep them in mind though.

Ender666666 No problem bud. You and I would probably build this deck entirely differently. I am more of a sultai baby anyway but you have tempted me to consider golgari again. Curse you sir! The lure of the hypnotoad must be resi... Must... resist....

Because you took the time to make it fun and flavorful to read. On top of that the cardlist is sensible. Why not use its success and see if you can't create a budget version of the deck?

Might give you some new ideas, otherwise it might just be fun for you and useful for people on a budget.

Ender666666 says... #25

A Budget version is actually on my to-do list, but I haven't had a lot of time to work on it lately.

I'm glad you like the way I setup the Primer. my friend let me borrow his formatting. I figured I should try to make it fun to read and personable, as there is a lot of text, which can be quite daunting if it isn't engaging.
