I love Commander. I love creating a deck of 100 little buddies that all interact with each other to create a deck image. This deck is the accumulation of everything that I love about the game.

My first deck was Undying Evil during the Dark Ascension block. As such I have a strong familiarity and love for self-recurring creatures. Over dinner my buddies and I were discussing custom commanders. I knew immediately what I wanted: a multi-color enchantment creature that keeps creatures on the field and causes discourse amongst the players.

And is also a slime. Thus the kaleidoscope slime was born. WUBRG. Gives all (most) other creatures persistent. Has abilities that anyone at the table can activate. Is a slime. The perfect commander for people who love Dark Ascension sacrifice combo politics. And slimes. Perfect.

Of course since this is a custom commander I can always tweak the balance later on. I wanted the ability to grant and revoke persist to be cheap so that it's not too busted and forces the table to make a decision between spending mana or reserving it for some pay wars. Being an enchantment just gives it one more weakness. Maybe I should charge life instead of mana for the abilities? on top of the mana cost?

Combos Show

Every combo assumes that your commander is out and every is persistent. This decklist is built to be budgeted and at a power level appropriate for my playgroup.

Any Undying Creature will come back with both a +1/+1 counter and -1/-1 counter, making them ultra persistent

Mikaeus, the Unhallowed makes all of your non-human creatures ultra persistent

Mulldrifter or Any Evoke Creature will come back and enable you to benefit from both the ETB effect a second time as well as provide a cheaper body than usual

Bloodspore Thrinax + Persist + Flayer of the Hatebound and / or Stalking Vengeance and / or Warstorm Surge

Flayer of the Hatebound being in the battlefield means all persistent creatures do free damage when they return to the battlefield

Stalking Vengeance gives free damage whenever a creature dies

Warstorm Surge free damage whenever a buddy hits the battlefield

Bloodspore Thrinax adds +1/+1 counters to creatures which will offset their -1/-1 counter, granting ultra persistence. Also eats all the buddies you want

Lethal Vapors would be a game-ending play if this combo is out if not for the fact that anyone can remove it or Persist from your creatures

Marchesa, the Black Rose grants dethrone which zeroes out -1/-1 counters on once-dead buddies

Duneblast becomes a one-sided board wipe if your commander is out

Unspeakable Symbol allows you to add a +1/+1 counter to any creature with a -1/-1

Will try to update in the future. Need to fix my manabase. Always open to suggestions.
