Hm... Wait... No Kalonian Hydra ? That hydra is just funny with haste...

Also Strionic Resonator with Kalonian Hydra or Renegade Krasis or Corpsejack Menace , or any evolve trigger, or Unleash. shrug and extra +1 counter could help...

Okay, the unleash one isn't that good.. but you get the point. >.>

(blagh) I hate this computer's font size at work Sorry, just saw the Kalonian hydra. But STILL Recommmended Strionic Resonator

Strionic Resonator will only work with two of those abilities. Corpsejack Menace 's ability is a replacement effect, and I think unleash is too. It would be pretty sick, but perhaps a bit unnecessary.

+1 for the Idiocracy references :D

You mentioned Golgari Charm , I've found that one my of my hydra deck's biggest weaknesses is to board sweepers, and as such regenerating everything can lead to a pretty ridiculous blowout :D I've been rolling with 2 or 3 in the SB and they've come in handy a few times for sure. Feel free to check out my Guardian of Kalonia (Post Rotation) deck! (I think yours is better :P)

Hmm, maybe side board Savage Summoning against control decks. It'll make sure your hyrdas at least make it to the battlefield with no extra mana cost.

Thanks for the suggestions!

@Schuesseled, I swear I've looked over so many builds and most have either not been updated for rotation or run no Hydras other than Kalonian. Your list is probably close to what I would be running if I didn't opt for Polukranos, World Eater as a removal source. I'm sure I'll be putting artifact/enchantment hate in the SB, but until I see something like Worship or Ensnaring Bridge printed again I'm gonna beat face like it's going out of style.

@hochmaster, don't forget to drink your Brawndo! It's got what Hydras crave. It's got electrolytes!

You've been pouring that into your crops?!?!? Heavens Why.

Have you thought about Xenagos, The Reveler it adds a lot of ramp for your Mistcutter Hydra and any x mana creatures you have. and for the side board I'd for sure go with some Destructive Revelry this being a heavy enchantment format. Love the deck though +1

Emrakool says... #12

Thanks! I had tried Xenagos when I started making the move over to post rotation. Problem is the only time I found him useful was using his +1 to power out a Hydra or pay toward Polukranos' monstrosity. The 0 and -6 abilities didn't impress me as much as I'd like. What I really wanted was more creatures in hand with which to crush my enemies! Domri and Garruk handle the job nicely.

Destructive Revelry is likely going in. Thanks for the suggestion!

That's true about Xenagos, The Reveler 's -6 ability - putting creatures straight onto the battlefield without paying their mana cost, while normally great, is actually really bad with most hydras as they enter as 0/0! Obviously this applies to Garruk, Caller of Beasts ' -3 as well, but his +1 and -7 more than make up for it (the -7 allowing you to search for the right creature negates the disadvantage), while all of Domri Rade 's abilities are pretty relevant (him being a 3-drop doesn't hurt any of course).

Also, cheers for the deck link ;)

This deck is truly AWESOME!!! But to make even more mana have Satyr Hedonist sack for a red and he gives 3 red. And if you have creatures lying around, scavenging will give other creatures +1/+1 counters and Varolz, the Scar-Striped gives all of your creatures scavenge.

Thanks JundGrixisNayaBantEsper!

I do appreciate the suggestions, though I feel they're more suited to work with each other than this deck as a whole. Satyr Hedonist is a one time use, costs R to activate which I only have 6 sources for (9 with Sylvan Caryatid ), and it adds R which only 2 of my cards are.

Varolz on the other hand is powerful in a deck built for him, but here 18 of my creatures would only scavenge for 0-1 counters. That's over half of them! I feel like I'm better served by Domri Rade and Garruk, Caller of Beasts keeping my hand filled with pain if my opponent likes to blow my stuff up.

September 21, 2013 11:04 a.m.

What about Ghor-Clan Rampager ? He is a combat trick that makes even your mana elfs deadly... and it can be picked up by either walker's draw ability.

Emrakool says... #17

True, I may keep it in consideration but I'm fairly happy with the current 4cc choices. Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch and Corpsejack Menace make up a big part of the core of this deck to start. While I'm generally counting on the size of my creatures to cause combat nightmares, I've also got Nylea for an indestructible static trample source, Rogue's Passage for unblockable (deadly with Savageborn Hydra ), and Polukranos as a source of eliminating blockers.

Whip of Erebos would be a great fit if you can find a spot :)

Emrakool says... #19

It might be okay, I'm not sure it has many viable targets other than Kalonian Hydra though. I've thought about maybe an Underworld Cerberus or two for the SB against mass removal, giving me a full hand of Hydras to cast over again if it dies. Otherwise I find Domri and Garruk's +1 abilities to be solid for recovery and keeping the pressure on against control.

Hydra + Exava is insane enough!

I've seen this in action and it makes my cry in corners!

Adding Corpsejack just pushes it over the edge.

Dumb question but with Polukranos, World Eater , to make him monstrous how does that mana work? do you divide how many lands you tap between each x, or do you just tap lands and both x's are that many lands?

September 25, 2013 9:36 a.m.

Emrakool says... #22

Both instances of X must be paid. So if I wanted X to be 1 I'd have to pay 1+1+G. It may seem like a lot, but with all the mana producing creatures and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx I feel like I can get my money's worth out of him. :)

Boomwizard says... #23

I don't like Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx , or Polukranos, World Eater in this deck one bit. That being said, +1 upvote from me for the awesome Idiocracy references.

September 25, 2013 1:28 p.m.

Emrakool says... #24

Nykthos actually works out pretty well, since Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch is the only non-green permanent in the deck. Also I'm sure the use of Polukranos's monstrosity is overkill, but that's the entire point of this deck.

I like money.

Magiclover318 says... #25

okay, personally I don't like Polukranos but that is me. I wouldn't use him in my deck, which is why I think he got into the heroes vs monsters set.
