Why the switch from Stomping Ground to Temple of Abandon . It seems the scry lands are good on turn one, but not something you want to draw into. can you explain?

I'm testing it out for the moment, hasn't seemed to have hurt me so far. Once things start coming together maybe I'll put Stomping Ground back in or run a mix of both.

@Magiclover318, what's a deck full of hasty Hydras without their leader to follow? Maybe I'll change over the numbers with Nylea, God of the Hunt ? More chances to trample seems like a good idea.

emrakool I think that is better, I would use him.

Sylvan Caryatid really pulls it together

It does, I'm still fooling around with the land since I sometimes get shorted on the black mana when I'm trying to cast Exava or Corpsejack Menace .

Maybe Xenagos, The Reveler for more ramp for the hydras?

I don't want to shatter your dreams, with no means whatsoever, but: You kinda copied the deck I ran 2 months ago. In theory it worked nice, it was amazing, the combo between Corpsejack Menace , Kalonian Hydra and Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch is super awesome. I had Primordial Hydra in as well as Savageborn Hydra and I was ready to face all the standard decks, and I got destroyed. Too slow, too little impact, too vulnerable.

I hope you can pull it off with Theros and the format "slowing down" (which in fact it does not). I wish you the best of luck!

Sylvan Caryatid : It's not the Farseek we want, but it's the Farseek we deserve.

Also I tried playtesting a few times. I dont think the bow or the god fits. Like, the mana ramp, and the exhava/corpsejack/hydra thing all feels like pure money, but then whenever I had a god or bow in my hand it was kinda off to the side just like "hey there, I really wish I could help this corpsejack menace hydra thing going on out there in the board, but I don't really do anything since the bow is durdly and the hydra already has trample and is huge anyways so the god doesn't help much."

@colin13, I tried him out and found myself unimpressed with his other abilities as they don't interact with the deck as well as I'd like. His +1 was also only useful if and when I had Hydras in my hand. Garruk ended up with an extra spot in his place.

@Spazik008, the Bow was actually just a test run, I can throw another Renegade Krasis back in for it. Either way I never drew it during playtests. As far as Nylea, God of the Hunt goes, I figured she'd be nice for running people over with the non-trampling Hydras and highly evolved other creatures.

Is the Corpsejack Menace actually needed here, excluding the gratuitous counter fun factor? Seems to me with Jund you have much better options in the 4 drop slot than a win more card. Still of course a plus one from me, as I am currently running a pretty similar build.

It's entirely for the gratuitous counter fun factor. Given my schedule I'll be lucky to go to more than half a dozen FNMs before RtR rotates, so despite a little competitive instinct I'm also considering what's going to draw the most ridiculous stares at the kitchen table. Naturally Corpsejack Menace is that thing.

Hey I tagged your deck on someone else's deck. He was trying to make a hydra deck and I pointed him towards this one. Hope this is ok.

No worries. Hope they find some of my ideas helpful. :)

Have you thought about using Bioshift ?. The move effects stack with Corpsejack Menace , so you end up with double the counters.

True, it seems a bit cutesy for the big angry feel of this deck though.

Turn 9 Savageborn Hydra swinging with 57,024 +1/+1 counters on it on a mulligan to 5. I... that's just... wow... I... +1 to you.

Dear God. I am building this for FNM this week. Holy hell. This should not be able to exist in standard.

Thanks! I guess I'm going to need to get more dice. Or just bringing a calculator with me and keeping notes on which Hydra's at what power. Maybe I can find room for another Savageborn Hydra for good measure. Being able to dump all that mana into it even after it enters the battlefield seems irresistible!

Instead of Renegade Krasis why not run Xenagos, The Reveler to pump your hydras?

This looks hella fun, +1!

Have you considered Voyaging Satyr instead of Gyre Sage or Sylvan Caryatid ? Untapping Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx is kind of awesome.

Thanks everyone!

@firerunner36: I tried out Xenagos and wasn't really impressed with him. His +1 ability seemed to be all I wanted to use, but if I didn't have a Hydra to cast he was only good for popping out chump blockers. Renegade Krasis gives me something to cast T3 to evolve Gyre Sage if I don't have another mana dork to power out a 4cc creature.

@mccracka: I did notice Voyaging Satyr recently and I think it might work if I didn't have such a green heavy deck. Gyre Sage usually gets so many counters on it that it generates more mana than Nykthos would, and Sylvan Caryatid aside from fixing my mana base is also an evolve trigger for the Sage and Renegade Krasis .

Fair enough, also have you considered Ogre Battledriver . Seems like he might be fun. Especially for the savageborn.

Emrakool says... #24

He'd work too, I decided on Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch because she keeps getting bigger as well.

firerunner36 says... #25

Only with the krasis evolving, and seeing as she is the only thing in the deck that gives haste if you're looking for speed you might want something else because 3/60 isn't that much.
