+1. Consider Xenograft and declare ally as the creature type. This makes an infinite wolf combo with Turntimber Ranger and makes your creatures interact with Animar, Soul of Elements

oh ... christ. I didn't think of that. Unfortunately, Animar, Soul of Elements is illegal in modern so I can't use it. But still, infinite damage/mill/creatures? I'm definitely liking that. Thanks merrowMania~!

Quit changing the damn deck before I can comment!!! This time, you even changed the name WHILE I was commenting, so there was an error!!!

This deck is really cool. You've inspired me to have a go at this at some point in the future. However, although this deck works well, I would try and keep the focus on one win-con, which in this case is mill. In all the games I have played with this deck, I have only ever won through mill. I've often had something like a Helix Pinnacle in my hand and wished it was a different card. Try some more mill cards, such as Jace's Erasure , which combos well with Sea Gate Loremaster . Also consider some control; you are playing blue after all. Try Mana Leak or Cancel .

Thanks for the suggestions TitansFTW! I think I shall go with some control. And considering you said only one win-con, should I remove the Turntimber Ranger and Xenograft combo as well?

megawurmple says... #6

I think that you should remove that combo. As a backup plan, it is just a bit too intricate. If you take them out, you can focus more on milling, or digging for your mill cards.

but with all the ally wolves, you can use Sea Gate Loremaster and Jace's Erasure to draw exactly enough cards to mill out your opponents

or

an infinite mill combo with Halimar Excavator

or

Helix Pinnacle and Harabaz Druid

or

an infinitely strong Oran-Rief Survivalist and/or Umara Raptor

or

a practically unblockable and infinitely strong Umara Raptor because you can kill potential blockers with Tajuru Archer

I don't think merrowMania approves of your idea, TitansFTW.

Tell you what merrow, I'll make a deck based solely off of the Turntimber Ranger and Xenograft infinite combo in your name and honor, and make this deck a purely mill deck, how does that sound?

Now I'm stuck trying to make a decision between Spell Pierce , Autumn's Veil , Ranger's Guile and Condescend ...

+1 for allies! This takes a different route from mine, but effective and powerful none the less! Umara Raptor does not cut the cheese though in my opinion. 3 mana for a 2/2 flying with the only ability of empowering when moar allies just isnt good enough. Replace with 3x Jace's Erasure instead as it becomes insanely powerful with Sea Gate Loremaster . But otherwise, keep pumping out cool decks!

@ Kittacus

The main reason for Umara Raptor was for the flying (though I could run Tajuru Archer ) and for the fact that the second to final piece of this combo requires any ally of 2-3 mana cost. Though I agree that it's pretty worthless in all other situations.

I however don't like Jace's Erasure , in any deck that I've played I've always found it underwhelming. Also, Sea Gate Loremaster rarely sees play in this deck, I generally milled the opponent out before it becomes useful. However, during the situations were I have bad-follow up draws and face against something I'm unprepared for, it becomes useful to get what I want fairly quickly.

If I should use anything I would remove Umara Raptor for Archive Trap . It also combos really nicely with Weird Harvest as I'm forcing the opponent to search their library. At the same time considering how limited the play Sea Gate Loremaster sees, I'll be removing one of him to.

Thanks for the +1 though~!

I see that you have a certain amount of card to draw. Have you though about playing Jace's Erasure ? Then it would also be worth playing Sea Gate Loremaster .

In case you'd wonder, yes, if you draw more than one card, Jace Erasure will trigger that many time.

Too slow and not worth it Josmiah. While yes, this is a mill deck, it is really a combo deck that wins by a mill function. Jace's Erasure would be used a lot more in mill decks if it only costed U, but at the moment there are better choices to play a spell on turn two. A counterspell or an ally are all better options, and in a full dimir mill deck, Glimpse the Unthinkable or Breaking / Entering are the better options.. In heavy mill, you mill your opponent out by turn 4-6 or so, so Jace's Erasure won't even be worth it. In this build, I want to focus on protecting my pieces while I get out one of my win-cons.

I don't really like Sea Gate Loremaster because he is really slow, and weak. A 1/3 for 5 mana is terrible, and he has no protection which makes him even worse. He is now easily removable by about 80% of the removal in modern. Not too mention he doesn't even have haste or an ETB ability, meaning he can quickly be removed on their draw preventing me from making any use of him. Since Sea Gate Loremaster relies on a heavy board presence, against burn or control builds he does absolutely nothing, considering you have no presence to make him worth his cost.

I understand - then maybe using a 2 cmc destroy artefact/enchant, (such as Naturalize or Gleeful Sabotage so you can use your Muddle the Mixture to get it faster in case your opponent cast say...Torpor Orb ?

Femme_Fatale says... #19

That there is a good point Josmiah, and I think more relevant than my Krosan Grip that is in the side. I'll do halves with Gleeful Sabotage and Seal of Primordium . Thanks!

I'm honestly thinking about doing this deck, I seriously LOVE it, especially since I had an Ally deck, so I have most card already. the only thing I'll have to change will be Archive Trap , since I don't have any, and use Cackling Counterpart unstead. If I am able to get some Archive Trap , then i'd play it with Ghost Quarter , imagine turn 1 Ghost Quarter and 3 or 4 Archive Trap ...They'd never see it coming!

Like the deck, +1 for this one too! What about using Call to Heel instead of Simic Charm ?It gives you similar creature removal protection with the addition of a card draw, and is easier to cast.

Femme_Fatale says... #22

Put doesn't allow ALL creatures to gain hexproof TDemers, which is important if I cast Doubling Chant and they respond with two removal pieces.

Thanks for the +1 though~
