Woodland Cemetery doesn't seem like a good choice You have UU Jace and Logic Knot and UUU Cryptic. Woodland Cemetery is not what you want to be drawing.

Tron looks like an atrocious matchup. Do you think the deck can handle Field of Ruin as a 1 or 2-of? If you can get Thoughtseize turn 1, jam Goyf turn 2, Lili turn 3, then follow up with field of ruin to buy a turn, maybe it'd be enough?

Thanks for the comment. That is a valid point, regarding Cemetery. To be fair towards the card - I had been rocking it, for the splash and being Control, was better than a fast-land. As you can see, there are few sources for it already, considering the low amount of cards here.

Field of Ruin is great, in theory, however, being a tri-color deck, makes a colorless land very situational (I know it plays well with JTMS). The mana base has been well, and even gets me some Snapcaster Mage into Cryptic Command - reliably. I did take your advice though. I removed a single forest, for 1x Creeping Tar Pit.

That Tron match-up. I completely forgot Damping Sphere! That's a 2x for one special (Tron & Stormy). Honestly, this deck performs pretty decent against tron in comparison to "faster" shells. It is still softer to it, no doubt. The helps out a lot and Ceremonious Rejection is no slouch. I thank you for indirectly reminding me of Damping Sphere.

Glad to hear it! What about eldrazi decks? Damping sphere doesn't seem good against them because Eldrazi Temple is the only land that it affects.

What's your game plan against hollow one? Degenerate decks are a pain for fair decks to deal with, especially hollow one.

This deck is super well built. There are a lot of bad sultai modern decks out there. This isn't one of them.

ToolmasterOfBrainerd:

In all honesty, I have not come up against a lot of Eldrazi Tron, as of late. I know they use the 12 Urza lands, so I would make an intellectual connection regarding Damping Sphere. Little aggro is fine, but big aggro is a pain. especially when their top-decks are better. Because of this and Humans, I opted for the 2x Damnations in the main.

Hollow One, is a pain! straight up. Against any deck, even Tron--2x Hollow Ones dropped on turn 1 is nearly lethal--depending on their T2 play and your hand. Abrupt Decay & Fatal Push are neat, but cannot do what is necessary. The smaller guys are fine. Cast Down helps a bit, and is literally included for Reality Smasher/Hollow One decks. I may need 2x. I wish i had your Terminates! XD

Thank you. that is very kind of you.

Eldrazi Tron is indeed on the decline, but RG eldrazi is the new fad at my store, and it does not use the tron lands. In addition to that, while Eldrazi Tron does play the tron lands, they do not need to assemble tron in order to beat face. If you've used 2 mana to play a Damping Sphere, I do not think Eldrazi Tron would care very much.

Terminate is a card that makes me very happy every time I play it. So many grixis players are trimming copies to play more Fatal Push, but I've always felt naked without it.

I could see 2x Cast Down working well. There are not many legendary creatures running around right now. Tasigur, the Golden Fang is the only Legendary that Fatal Push doesn't hit.

Sick list!

Ever consider Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth? Makes Breeding Pool a lot better and also your fetches can tap for mana so you don’t have to sac them and lose life unless you need another color or want a land in your graveyard.

Also Oboro, Palace in the Clouds is one of my favorite lands, you can use it to revolt your Fatal Push!

Thank you for the upvote. I have considered the Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth. It was realllly sweet until I gave an opponent double , for Liliana of the Veil. I still like the card a lot. Unfortunately, Oboro, Palace in the Clouds would be a little hard to include being solely in a tri-color shell. I like the interaction it has with Revolt.

The only thing I can think of is keeping a backup plan in the event someone plays Blood Moon. I play two of them in my mainboard for my main modern deck that I built. The reason is all because every single last person has filled the entirety of their modern decks ( all of them ) with either 100% non basic land, or 95% like what you have here. Seriously, don't get F*#%^&# by blood moon, get a few more basic lands in there to make sure you can play your big spells.

One thing to note with Assassin's Trophy is that ALL GBx decks will benefit from it. That being said, all GBx decks will spike in the meta, Rock, Jund, Abzan, Sultai. And when they do, they'll all be playing Assassin's Trophy. I don't think 2-3 basic lands is going to be enough after GRN is released. Especially against Abzan and Rock builds. I would go up to 4 or 5 basics to avoid getting screwed out of mana with Field of Ruin and Path to Exile only adding to the carnage.

vasarto77:

You are right Blood Moon is a bitch. Thank you for reminding me, and my apologies for the late reply.

Chasmolinker:

Hey old friend. Thanks for the input as always. I believe you are also correct on the basic land advice, AND the Assassin's Trophy analysis. Great contribution.

itachi45:

I feel that with the printing of Assassin's Trophy, your analysis is dead on. I wanted to personally thank you for considering this list as your go to. There has been sooo much work and great suggestions from the Tappedout community, that it would not be where it is today, without all of you folks. I would be honored to examine your deck and give the best advice that I can. Once again, Itachi, thank you.

The final verdict: all 3 of you friends are correct and I will look into my basic land count. Thank you all for your contributions.

Nissa, Steward of Elements is pretty spicy. How's she working out for you?

Pieguy396:

Hey, thanks for the upvote.

Nissa, Steward of Elements is not usually a choice for me in typical . However, when combined with Jace, the Mind Sculptor, her +2 ability gets rid of the undesirable cards put back on top. Her -0 ability also grants free Tarmogoyf and lands, which is great with Jace's +2. One more thing is that she and Jace also make for super effective -2 with Liliana, the Last Hope. I hope this helps.

I play a similar build and I’ve found that replacing Opt with Dark Confidant could be nice. In my experience, in the deck you are playing, cantrips just aren’t good. If your plan is to either Tar Pit or discard spell on turn 1, use removal or jam goyf turn 2, Opt doesn’t really seem OPTimal. Bob would not only be better card draw, a good body against aggressive decks, but it’s actually insane with Nissa, Steward of Elements. If you weren’t running Nissa, I wouldn’t even suggest it, but being able to scry 2, then usually put a land or 1-drop on the top of your deck, negating the life loss while still granting you an extra card is just nutty.

belugawhaleonthefloor:

Thank you for your advice.

I apologize about your experince with Opt. On another note, with my deck, I have found that BOB is ok at best. The life loss that Sultai faces, is not worth it in my humble opinion. BOB "could" see play in a better life sustaining build. This is why Opt is so nice for me. It is also an Instant speed player and does not necessarily HAVE to be played on T1.

However, about T1, 3x Inquisition and 3x Thoughtseize along with 4x Opt, allow for 10x T1 plays. That is quite good. Regarding Tar-Pit, there are only 3x of them, so they do not always matter on T1, but when they do, there are also other lands that can be played in lieu of.

For this control shell, Tarmogoyf is seldom dropped on T2. It has to be an intellectual play. An example would be a clear board or an enemies 0 card hand.

Lastly, Nissa and BOB are great. I concede to that. However, 2x Search for Azcanta  Flip, 4x Opt, 2x Jace, the Mind Sculptor, and 1x Nissa, Steward of Elements already serve that purpose.

Once again, thank you for your suggestion and in future changes - I will strongly consider Dark Confidant.

Why Hieroglyphic Illumination and Pulse of Murasa ? Forgive me but those cards seem terrible.

darklord1135 :

I would love to explain these cards and their function, in this specific 75. Also, thank you for your support and question.

In this 60, life-loss can become a minor issue with Bitterblossom . However, Pulse of Murasa in tandem with Collective Brutality mitigates that really well. Not only does it serve as life gain and the obvious Snapcaster Mage retrieval, but may also help to ensure land drops. On the other hand, it also serves a more important roll, returning a removed Creeping Tar Pit (Land) to enable the unblockable "One Punch" with Vraska, Golgari Queen 's emblem. In this shell, it serves as a smooth, instant 2 for 1. It also gives the deck more Snapcaster Mage 's to play with, in essence.

Hieroglyphic Illumination is a card I was incredibly skeptical about at first glance. However, with testing, this card has earned my respect. It does not have a Scry attached to it, but it may evade being countered due to Cycling not being a "Cast." This also helps against Chalice of the Void , at 1x, as Cycling once again cannot be countered. The ability of this card being a late game "Draw 2x Cards", seriously adds gas to the game. It does not NEED to be cast at 4 cmc, but the option to EOT - draw 2x - is very valuable.

Hopefully these answers give clarity to the options I deemed acceptable in this creative brew. Of course 2x Serum Visions would not be horrible though. Thank you for your question.
