I can assure you that when playing Cryptic Command, there is not much of an issue. If in opening hand search/play based lands. Darkslick Shores and all the fetch lands generally make for solid mana fixing. Control generally grinds out the game. CC has helped me win games in standstills & by being a hard counter against Tron. 4 can look intimidating. I concede to that. I use the 1 ofs with Thought Scour & Snapcaster Mage. To me it counts as multiples. Thank you, for your feedback. Hopefully that helped a bit.
Thank you. He is fun. I decided to test a more aggressive build with Bobby. The curve beeing low works great.

Do you think that Sultai Midrange is the grindiest color combination? If not, what is the best color combination for a grindy midrange deck?

I believe Sultai to be grindy. The grindiest, probably not, but it can answer anything in modern.
-Hand removal
-Counter magic
-Solid creature removal
-Abrupt Decay & Maelstrom Pulse hit virtually everything relevant in modern.
-Cheap big/value creatures.
Mardu and Abzan play a good grindy game. Lantern and Tron, for sure.

I'm a fellow GBx player and I like the direction your deck is going, but I have some recommendations. The first is that a 2-2 split of Liliana of the Veil and Liliana, the Last Hope is not smart as it is very likely you can draw one of each and end up getting stuck. My second recommendation is that you are playing to few lands to be playing a midrange deck. I would recommend you add 2 more fetch lands. The two extra lands will help guarantee you get at least 2 lands to get to utilize Snapcaster Mage to its fullest potential.

I love the deck I'm a big fan of GBU +1, the one thing I don't understand is why you don't have any delve. I know it is kinda counter productive with Delirium, but even one Murderous Cut would be awesome. Still a great deck thought :)

Tbanks for the comment. This deck fluctuates between 20-22 lands. Depending on what I have in the deck, such as Tasigur, the Golden Fang or Cryptic Command I will jump up to the 22+ lands. You're probably right. I should remove the Liliana of the Veil in general. I was using her in Anticipation of "X" Eldrazi decks. That is literally what my meta consists of with Infect and Affinity. I initially had Kiora, Master of the Depths. She works well and at times can be 2 draws. She worked good with the delve creatures, but right now I am experimenting with Dark Confidant. So far he is good, butblacks what the previous creatures could do, close out a game faster. However, he does add to my control and card advantage and has helped in many games with revealing a land, while drawing a Maelstrom Pulse or just more gas in general. I have also looked at Jace, Architect of Thought. Unlike how it works against aggro and the ultimate hits Tron tremendously. What are your ideas? I have only looked at Garruk Wildspeaker.
Thanks for the suggestion. I really like Murderous Cut. However, with Grim Flayer & Tarmogoyf, after observing my games; they work best without it any sort of Delve. I go back and forth between a more Driver list and this version of a more Grindy/Midrange approach type of play. Cut is definitely a good card.

I think you should remove Damnation from the mainboard, maybe sideboard? Sure, you'd destroy his hydras and render him defenseless, but not all decks are sure to have creatures, and that 1 space might grant you a really nice card that goes well with your deck. Pretty good construction, to be honest.

At the moment, the Eldrazi are what's making it main board. It is just so good against their entire plan. The same goes for jund. I tried out Yahenni's Expertise, but I wasn't sold on it either. Thank for the suggestion man.

+1 from me, my child. The Sultai brood may concoct elaborate schemes to dethrone others, but at least they take pride in it.

I believe Careful Study to be a strictly worse Faithless Looting. It is also unfortunately a card that I do not think is Modern legal. Thank you!
Thank you very much!

Could you explain your reasoning for 2 Obstinate Baloth and only 2 Snapcaster Mage? It seems as if a playset of Snappy would be a better choice than a 2/2 split.

cplvela0811 says... #15
Obstinate Baloth is a tad faster than Thragtusk and survives Lightning Bolt. It also adds a built in resilience against Liliana of the Veil. It is not Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet and I have considered this card as well, but with Eldrazi, Burn, and Aggro/discard decks--Obstinate Baloth shines. I will list the reasons why:
- Survives Lightning Bolt
- Evades Liliana of the Veil + 1 ability.
- Against Reality Smasher--It is a free card. I'll take it.
- If this does not hurt Burn then I am not sure what will.
- Against Aggro--it is a wall. Pair that with removal and you start to beat Aggro.
In regard to Snapcaster Mage--I use to play Sultai with an automatic 4x of every time. Now looking back on it--I think in a deck that does not play with Lightning Bolt may be uncalled for. 2-3 in a shell without should be safe. This is all opinion based off of personal experience is all.
Hopefully these helped you understand why I am using it at the moment.

Duuuudddee!!! Im in love with your deck!! Alright so I had build my deck 9 months ago and after seeing your build and how it pretty much almost mirrors mine, I might just do a carbon copy of your deck, since I'm like a total scrub in deck building. Heres my deck -> Why so Delirious? feel free to give it your two cents if you want. I might have to redo my sideboard all over again to accommodate the new meta (I'm anticipating Grave Hate everywhere at my LGS due to goyf reprint). All in all, I'm really glad someone like you built a version of my deck thats GP worthy and I can't wait to try it out. If I could spam the upvote button, I'm pretty sure I'd break it. Please continue to improve this deck, as I'm sure I'll be coming back to this deck multiple times. Liked and Favorited my good sir!!

A couple of things I've done in testing this same color scheme that I can recommend to you:
Eternal Witness is a great card. Sure, it's no replacement for Snapcaster Mage, but I'd run at least one. The added reach you get from returning the most relevant card in your graveyard to your hand really matters.
While a bit of a non-bo with Goyf, Tasigur, the Golden Fang auto-activates Stubborn Denial's Ferocious clause while also providing some card advantage. I'd consider it over Baloth in the mainboard if I were making this list.
If you're looking for a good enchantment to boost your Goyfs, I recommend swapping out your Unbridled Growths for Seal of Doom and maybe a Seal of Primordium out of the sideboard. There's just so much more utility out of the seals than there is out of Growth, especially in a format with such good mana-fixing.

First and foremost--thank you.
Eternal Witness is a card that my brother keeps on encouraging, however, I have just felt that Snapcaster Mage at a grand total of 3 mana can do something like Fatal Push on the same turn it entered. Witness is a good card in general. I think it would be too slow here, but better off in a "combo-y" deck, with "pieces."
Tasigur, the Golden Fang is a really good card. On my description for the deck--you will notice there is a tab with "Deck Before Banning." It had 2-3 Tasigurs, with a couple of Hooting Mandrills, and Gurmag Angler. I have used it before and as you and many, many others pointed out--it is a "non-bo" with Grim Flayer, Snapcaster Mage, and Tarmogoyf. I was using the idea of these creatures all together, I had already noticed it, but players asked about how that was fairing with Delirium, and I was also running Murderous Cut. Normally I would consider the "Tas, Monkey, Fish" package, but I do not want to Relic of Progenitus my own strategy. It hurts badly; especially when they board in graveyard hate.
In regards to Enchantments/Artifacts--I have tested with a few things, Courser of Kruphix, Bitterblossom, Executioner's Capsule, Scrapheap Scrounger, Loxodon Warhammer, and even Batterskull. Unfortunately, if I were to use a different card type removal spell, it would have to be Executioner's Capsule, for the sake of at least a Turn 1 move. Unbridled Growth is strictly in this 75 to:
- Replace a card in hand and cycles through the deck.
- Caters to Delirium and Tarmogoyf without repercussion--at anytime, for free.
- Mana fixes and combats against Blood Moon.
Thank you for your suggestions. Hopefully I was able to clear up why there are no super extra value 1 drop 4/5 Delve creatures (with abilities) in this list. I would totally love to, if Grim Flayer was a base 4/4 (could you even imagine!) I will take you up on the Eternal Witness, however. Everyone keeps saying "witness", "witness."

Hey bud been a while,
Polite greetings aside I tend to disagree with some popular opinion on the matter of Snapcaster Mage + delve such as Tasigur, the Golden Fang + Tarmogoyf + Grim Flayer.
I actually found Tasigur, the Golden Fang pairs nicely with Grim Flayer. For my current build I normally have no issue getting delerium when I need it. Keeping it is a simple matter of managing your grave. However ever so conveniently Grim Flayer happens to dump a lot of cards to the yard and sometimes you don't need them there so you can delve away maintaining delirium. Cards like Murderous Cut help our color combination deal with creatures outside of Abrupt Decay and Fatal Push range. Which is important. Having more than just 1-2 Maelstrom Pulse to deal with "anything big" helps a lot.
Also while doing the normal (control?) Attrition midrangey gameplan of managing the board. You get delerium most times. And have an excess left over for Snapcaster Mage food.
What I have found though is you don't want to overload on graveyard things. So having Tarmogoyf Grim Flayer and delve is bad you pick 2 of the 3 and are fine. Snapcaster Mage is always fine if or not great and most of the reason grave hate will be brought in against us.
So in quick TLDR summary for ease and clarification.
Snapcaster Mage always:
Delve + flayer is ok long as you don't have goyf.
Goyf and flayer is fine long as you don't have delve or minimal amount.
Delve and goyf is fine as long as you don't have flayer.
In essence tarmo and flayer aren't getting along near tasigur monkey fish cut. However the delving party is ok with one or the other but not both.
This comes from my extensive testing along with consensus from a group I manage over on facebook: MTG Modern BUG
God find us over there and I'll be more than willing to welcome you to the fold!

seems like a really great deck.
Just wondering, is Unbridled Growth really worth it? I feel like you have the mana base required to not need it at all.

Hello my friend, it has been some time.
Very well said my friend. I agree that 2x Maelstrom Pulse is not where it should end, but I certainly believe it to be better than Jund's 1x of. It also helps with combo and tokens being a 360 card--planeswalkers too. I think Slaughter Pact really deserves some consideration. It is tremendously useful with Snapcaster Mage. Murderous Cut is phenomenal! I opted out of the Delve package, per this 75. I'll be sure to get around to looking it up!
Thank you for the support!
I really vouch for Unbridled Growth. It won me a game because my opponent did not know I could produce a , for Stubborn Denial--with a 5/6 Tarmogoyf. I really like it and helped me stay online.
March 29, 2017 1:21 p.m.
I agree with that exactly currently my 60 has Maelstrom Pulse Go for the Throat and Murderous Cut main all as 1 ofs with another pulse in the side.
On occasion I've wanted more, but the consideration always swings back to I just can't really cut decay or push.

Under normal circumstances that is the better card, but Unbridled is strictly greater in here for my creature package. It guys the graveyard, unlike Abundant. Hopefully that helps with why I have it.
