About The Commander

Welcome to Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite's deck tech! Where everything is about buffing your stuff and nerf your opponent's creatures (Or blow them up!). We are going to play a number of destruction spells in our deck. But, your's will be protected! Our downside to white is hard to able drawing cards, and mana generating. Therefore, we need a lot of artifacts to support us.

Card Choices

Of Land

  • Emeria, The Sky Ruin - Let us grab a creature back from graveyard to the battlefield! Definitely run this in a mono-white deck!

  • Reliquary Tower - We run Reliquary Tower because Land Tax will fill our hand a lot. We tend not to discard our land if possible. But, if it's a must, it's also ok to do so.

  • Terrain Generator - Terrain Generator let us put an extra land to the battlefield because of Land Tax again.

  • Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth - Yes, Urborg Tomb of Yawgmoth does not have a mana symbol in the text. Therefore, we can run in a mono-white deck. We use Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth because of Kormus Bell which I will explain later as we get there.

Of Planeswalker They're just here to generate more token creatures!

Of Creature

  • Avacyn, Angel of Hope - We run several board wipes in our deck. Avacyn gives us indestructible from these effects!

  • Heliod, God of the Sun - While not a strong card. He is not a creature until we have 5 devotions. Giving other creatures vigilance is usually better to run with Brave the Sands, but it also generates tokens for us which may be helpful. If he becomes a creature, he helps us to block whatever due to his indestructibility.

  • Iona, Shield of Emeria - One of the grossest white card in Magic. Banning a color, especially if your opponent is running mono-color will completely ruin their game.

  • Karmic Guide - We don't use her echo effect, as she is not needed aside from her grave return effect. Letting us returning any creature to the battlefield helps a lot!

  • Loyal Retainers - Again grave return to the battlefield is always good to have!

  • Mentor of the Meek - Most of the times we won't be able to use his effect because of our creature's buff. Mentor of the Meek helps us get extra cards in the early game.

  • Mother of Runes - Our mom protects us!

  • Protector of the Crown - I really like this card. Having monarch mechanic adds more interactions to the game! Protector of the Crown also takes all the damage instead of dealing to us. Giving him indestructible will just absorb almost everything! Great combo with our Avacyn, Angel of Hope.

  • Sublime Archangel - We run a number of token creatures. Sublime Archangel gives all creatures exalted. Exalted triggers separately, making when we attack with a single creature, that creature will be a huge one!

  • Weathered Wayfarer - Let us fetch any lands!

Of Enchantment

  • Blind Obedience - Texts that have mana symbol in the brackets are still able to play outside of your color. Having extort let us gain some extra life!

  • Gideon's Intervention - Simply play it and ban their commander from being cast!

  • Land Tax - Always a great card to fetch 3 basic lands out!

  • Marshal's Anthem - Let us return as many creatures as we can from the graveyard to the battlefield by paying the kicker cost.

Of Artifact

  • Akroma's Memorial - Super buff your creatures!

  • Helm of the Host - It's not always being able to play Helm of the Host due to it's high equip cost. But, if it happens, equip on card:Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobit.

  • Kormus Bell - One of our win conditions is to have Kormus Bell, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, and Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite. Kormus Bell makes all swamps are 1/1 creatures. Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth turns all lands are also swamps. Elesh Norn will kill all your opponent's lands with her -2/-2 ability, and buff ours to 3/3.

  • Marble Diamond - Can be replaced with Pearl Medallion, not much of a great card.

  • Mask of Memory - One of our very few draw effects. A very good use and underrated card.

Of Instant

  • Eerie Interlude - Flicker spell!

  • Teferi's Protection - Best play goes to Armageddon + Teferi's Protection. Say goodbye to all your opponent's lands and you as the caster will cease to exist until your next turn (no lands, or creatures will be wiped, your life total can't change).

Of Sorcery Just a whole bunch of destruction.

Conclusion

Let me know what other cards you think it will help the deck! Elesh Norn is certainly quite fun, but also leads to a huge target. This deck is both competitive and casual. Zero infinite combos are the best play in commander!
