nice looking deck, with a few tweeks you could make a solid standard deck. if you need more reach try Bump in the Night if you need control and are just playing casual try Dash Hopes lol its one of my favorites,

I appreciate your feedback! A bomb along the lines of Consume Spirit or Death Grasp would be extremely advantageous, as well as the card advantage you mentioned. I'll modify the deck list to accomodate for these improvements.

I'm not really going for control per se in this deck, and Bump in the Night seems irrelevant when I can increase survivability with Cathedral Sanctifier or any amount of extort. I may consider Dash Hopes as a sideboard card in future, though.

Blind Obedience, Curse of Exhaustion, and Curse of Thirst would all be decent in here. Especially Blind Obedience if you're gonna stick with the taxation tactic. Noice deck.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll try running a few of those cards as sideboard options.

If you want to play modern, you might look at Path to Exile . It's pretty much staple removal for modern and it's a cheap extort trigger.
Also, the Chalice of Life Flip seems kind of win-more ish. If you have the budget I would suggest switching them for a better win-con like Obzedat, Ghost Council or Griselbrand (the Crypt Ghast should help you ramp into some big threats)

I would suggest bumping Blind Obedience up to four. As an Extort trigger that isn't easy to wipe along with your others it never really is a dead draw as when you get up to the capacity to do things like triple or quadruple extort any spell just becomes goofy.

I'd suggest finding more dual lands for the deck, the number of color heavy spells would enjoy it.

I'm not normally a fan of Orzhov, but I like this mainly because you have some nice control.

Even though this isn't a token deck, Zealous Persecution can seriously turn the tide of a game as well as providing a good way to extort. Not to mention it kills Snapcaster Mage , Dark Confidant , etc. etc. by default.

Duly noted. I hadn't thought of putting a card like this in here due to the fact that Thrull Parasite and the cannon fodder from Lingering Souls would die to it as well, but this is an excellent suggestion you propose.

Thrull Parasite could be a one drop extort.

If you ever feel like putting some money into this I would recommend Path to Exile , Inquisition of Kozilek and Thoughtseize . I realize that they're a bit expensive but I would at the bare minimum use 4 Paths over Mortify and Gild. Also something like Wrench Mind could come in for Rest for the Weary which isn't great regardless of budget. I recommended a lot of discard spells because that's what black does best.

I enjoyed the build but you're heavy on the land. With a mana curve topping out at 3-4 on your cmc I'd say speed it up just a little bit by removing the guild gates altogether and adding in 4 copies of Sign in Blood you've got the life anyways, might as well use it for card advantage over your opponant. (Which will help churn out the same land drop ratio as having 24 lands -the gates- hold you back a turn.)
Also you might want to look for a game ender, a Consume Spirit type of spell would be great or look towards adding a couple of Evolving Wilds to help thin out your deck so you can get what you need when you need it.
As it is everything in your deck does extort so all the cheap spells you play will scale in life drain. You should look towards thinning out your deck so you can extort more often for as much as possible.
