Most Narset decks dont, they are very powerful and consistent.

Any advice for a noob who wants to bring this down to a 60 card casual deck?

Shrediknight, if you want to do that you are going to need as many copies of Horobi as you can fit, and as many tutors as you can handle. The reason this deck works is because you have easy access to your commander. Put this in casual and you'll be building your deck around a creature that likes to nestle himself in your graveyard

I have a few questions about some of the cards in here as I am confused as to y you put them in.
Guul Draz Overseer: can kill all of your creatures whenever a land comes out
Servant of neferox: kills your creatures if it attacks alone
War horn: kills all your attacking creatures

@jmviehmann69: Incorrect; neither of the three cards "target" anything, and is therefore unaffected by Horobi's ability..

@Metroid_Hybrid Gotcha this deck really gives me a headache when thinking about these cards.

Have you thought about adding in a Akroma's Memorial for a non- budget version of this deck? It saves your creatures from your general's ability.

Definition of protection from black and red:
Creatures cannot be:
Damaged by black and/or red sources
Enchanted or equipped by black and/or red permanents (I guess this prevents people from using certain targeted abilities)
Blocked by black and/or red creatures
Horobi's ability falls into none of these categoriesTargeted by black and/or red spells (S

I built this deck and I love it. I did beef it up a little bit with stronger cards like Necropotence but the deck is still 95% identical.

Great! Just curious do you have the deck list? I'd love to see it!

Believe it or not, this list actually inspired my first EDH deck. I technically started with your list, but then I started adding things from my collection, and eventually started buying things specifically for it.. At this point though there is literally only 5 spells that our lists have in common! lol Though, that being said, a mean little piece of tech that I run that won't touch your mana base either is Tsabo's Web.. ;)
Here's my list; tell me what you think..

Grim Return makes it possible for you to take your opponents' powerful creatures once Horobi kills them.

You could use Voltaic Key to untap your artifacts for more targeting use.
Ghost Town is also quite handy if you want better consistency on those landfall triggers. It's also really flavorful with your deck as well.

Ghost Town is great, thank you! However, Voltaic Key is too expnesive, and is basically a Helm of Chatzuk at best with items with no cost except tapping, but even with Helm of Chatzuk it is already more like Jabari's Banner, and not worth it

Can some explain how Retribution of the Ancients would work here?I mean you can't make 'X' '0' and there's no creatures in the deck that can have +1/+1 counters on them right? If I'm wrong then Im sorry!

Actually, X can be zero here. You are thinking of cards like Aladdin's Lamp where it specifically says X can't be 0, but that doens't apply here.

oh awesome, thanks for clearing that up, liking your deck a lot btw, nice job on it

Have you considered Imps' Taunt? Even if the commander isn't out, it could cause some disruption.
Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief, Sepulchral Primordial, Kuro, Pitlord, Oasis could be good.
Other than Oasis, the creatures I mentioned could cause some dramatic life swings. Kuro, Pitlord & Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief both work well with Horobi, Death's Wail's ability.
Grim Harvest is also one of my favorite cards. It's cheap and extremely effective.

Thanks! I will be using most of these, but Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief is too expensive, and the ability actually doesn't work because there is no target when the ability reaolves, so she doesn't get the +X/+0. Thanks for the suggestions all the same!
November 6, 2016 2:30 p.m.
Drana's ability with Horobi isn't meant to drain and pump, but to (where =): destroy target creature. Horobi's ability still works if you drain (same with Retribution of the Ancients, you can remove 0 counters, it only matters if you target a creature.

Flagellum, yes but he was saying the Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief could swing for a lot as well, and she is too much for just a mostly worse Retribution of the Ancients or Sacred Armory.
November 6, 2016 9:33 p.m.
I missed that part, my reading comprehension apparently isn't where it should be lol. It's possible if Horobi is offline. Otherwise, yeah she is a far worse RoA.
November 6, 2016 10:11 p.m.
Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief is a little on the more expensive end of your budget, but if the general isn't in play she could do some work. X=0 is pretty good too, but yeah she would break the budget fairly quickly. Thanks for checking out my suggestions!
I just ordered this deck last night and I'm so stoked to play it against my friends. Thanks for the list TheCenterOfTheUniverse!
