THIS INFO IS CURRENTLY NOT FULLY UP TO DATE.
I recently wrote far too many words about this deck HERE
This is my EDH deck I've recently fallen in love with. I started tuning the Mono-G Precon a few months ago, and have turned it into a real force of nature!
One of the things you may notice is that this deck features even more elves than many other lists do. It seems the average runs about ~35 elves (from what I've seen), where I try to keep the number as close to 50% of the deck as possible. This is so we can keep drawing into and playing elves as often as possible!
The main gameplay of the deck is simple:
Get a method of turning a plethora of elves into a fountain of mana. Priest of Titania and Elvish Archdruid are ideal, but Heritage Druid, a fully leveled Joraga Tree Speaker, and even lands like Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx work great! Bonus points if you get one of the first two paired with either Quirion Ranger,
Wirewood Symbiote
, or both!!
Your draw engine. Glimpse of Nature, Soul of the Harvest, and
Primordial Sage
are all here to get sweet bonus value off of all of your elves. One is good, two is fantastic, and three makes each elf it's own recall! Just be careful you don't deck yourself ;)
Pay off! Okay, so you have a million 1/1s and 2/2s... Where do we go from here? Well, as a result we ALSO most likely have billions of mana. Great options include: a) Genesis Wave for a very, very big X number b) Ezuri's generous fountain of Overruns c) Craterhoof to make our massive army even bigger d) All of the above!
That's the basic strategy. Of course there are all kinds of neat little nuances and whatnot, but this is the core idea.
Neat additions:
Cloudstone Curio - I'm sure many of you are familiar with this card, but for those of you who are not- this card allows us to abuse ETB triggers that many of our awesome elves have. Elvish Visionary draws, Dwynen's Elite token production, ect. This card with Concordant Crossroads makes things silly. Keep bouncing and replaying cards like Priest of Titania, or another synergy is Birchlore Rangers
+
Dwynen's Elite
while Curio is out to get as many tokens as you can generate the green for!
Hall of Gemstone is a card I honestly just wanted to fit in because it was so cool, but I realized it has a real place in this deck. It disrupts multicoloured decks from trying to complete their game plans because they can no longer cast multicoloured spells or more than one colour of spell per turn, but also prevents the opponents from getting to use counter magic on our turn!
Now, a huge drawback of playing a creature based deck is when things go boom. Let's face it, board wipes are going to suck. Luckily we have back up plans! First off, there's always just straight up getting our elves back.
Grave Sifter
and Creeping Renaissance are a great way to just fill your hand (and then field) right back up again.Secondly, there's always the Caller of the Claw route as well, for mass token production. Turning 20 elves into 20 2/2s isn't a bad trade off, and is definitely better than an empty board.Of course while not as powerful as fully getting the full hand back, Eternal Witness is just such a great card to help pull majorly important cards back, such as Priest of Titania
Final notes/interesting synergies:
I like to grab Priest first before Archdruid if I can, so as not to shut down card draw from Skullclamp if I need to.
Quirion Ranger
+
Wirewood Symbiote
means you can bounce a forest to untap a creature, tap that creature again, bounce Ranger to untap and retap again, then replay Ranger to bounce another land to untap. Having Cloudstone Curio out as well means that you can repeat this process for every forest that you have!
Copperhorn Scout is a brilliant little card, because it let's you use all your mana available to play as many elves as possible, and then attack with it and your other creatures to let them all tap for mana again, so that you can dump all your mana back I to more overruns! Best of both worlds.
I very much appreciate you reading and taking a look at my deck! I'm always very open to suggestions and discussion. Let me know what you would add/remove, and why! And if you like this deck, an upvote would mean a lot.
Thanks a lot!
