I don't know if you've noticed or not, but unfortunately Prophet of Kruphix is now banned in Commander. I don't know what you might want to replace it with. Maybe Sagu Mauler? I'm not sure what would be a good replacement.

Awh, I didn't notice that... I'll be hard-pressed to find a card that useful in this deck. Ideally, you want something with a toughness less than 2 to trigger Ezuri's EXP counters.

if you're looking for a solid replacement for it Nissa, Voice of Zendikar basically fits the theme perfectly, makes small dudes that make exp counters, buffs all your stuff, and gives card draw

You could consider repalcing Prophet of Kruphix with something like Jalira, Master Polymorphist to turn your tokens into more creatures.

Also, I would recommend either increasing the number of counterspells you run or removing them - two seems like a really awkward number.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm going to overhaul this deck soon, I've been working on my other two for the past week or so.

lastly, since you run alot of things that revolve around counters, consider Inexorable Tide

I'll certainly be adding that soon!

Maybe Hornet Queen or Living Hive for some Exp counter triggers?

Great Deck. I like it.

I would second the recommendation of Sagu Mauler.

Why you ask? Because you can play it as a morph. If you do you get experience counter with your commander since it enters the battliefield as a 2/2 and you have a beefy 6/6 trample hexproof creature. All in one. And if you decide to put counters on it it will keep them if you morph it into face up. And with this you even have a suprice element through morph. You can even lure out a destroyer if you pump it up with you commander and then morph it face up to let the destroyer fizzle.

One flaw here I notice is that you have only 2 cards that can protect your commander. In a deck that relies on the commander this heavily this is way too less. If playing against black or red, hell even white you will almost never get to place those counters. I would recommend adding some more like Lightning Greaves, Mask of Avacyn and Darksteel Plate. Maybe even Champion's Helm and Cloak and Dagger just to be sure you get some protection for your commander. And if you have 2 protection gears on the field that's no problem since your commander is not the only thing that's worth protecting.

I hope this helped. Greets MA.

Oh I have some further suggestions:

Cut those:

Synthetic Destiny: Don't help your opponent with getting rid of your things. And getting random stuff is likely not helping you. Just think about it. You pull this off and your opponent uses a mass whipe afterwards. Now a big part of your deck is gone and considering your card list it's likely gone forever.

Dispel: A counter for 1 mana. Yes. But being restricted only to instants is no good. Use Dissipate or Voidslime instead. Dissipate removes the threat forever and Voidslime can even counter nasty abilities. If you really want a low mana counter consider Foil for example or Force of Will if your budget goes this far.

Imo you could use 1 or 2 counters more then you already have.

And I would add Beast Within to get rid of permanents and Cyclonic Rift as a finnisher or at least a kind of resetter since you don't have access to Damnation and the likes in your color pie.

I hope this helped. Greets MA.

In my Ezuri build, I take advantage of Doubling Season with a few planeswalkers, since they enter with double the loyalty counters. My favorites are Tamiyo, the Moon Sage and Jace, Unraveler of Secrets.

I also run Contagion Engine, not only for the walkers but because it proliferates your counters and hinders (or completely wipes) an opponent. I replaced my Inexorable Tide with the Engine and have been very happy with the swap. It does so much more than Tide, and can go to work the same turn it comes out much more easily. Oftentimes I found I'd cast Tide and it would be removed before I could do much with it.

Additionally, Thassa, God of the Sea is fantastic. The scry is great, and who even needs trample when you can just make something unblockable?

If any of these sound like good inclusions for you, here's what I'd recommend taking out:

First, in green, I feel like 40 lands is more than necessary, though that can depend a bit on what your play group's mulligan preference is.

If taking out lands isn't an option, then I'd say Jalira, Master Polymorphist, Lu Xun, Scholar General, and Spike Feeder are all worthy of the chopping block. These are either trying to replicate better effects you have, costing more mana than they're worth, or lacking in synergy.

June 8, 2016 4:25 a.m.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll definitely be mulling those over. Question for you, with Spike Feeder, couldn't I load him up with Ezuri EXP counters, then pull all of them for immense life gain? As for Thassa, I love the option to scry, but this deck has a pretty decent amount of draw, most games I've got more than ten cards in hand. I'll definitely mull it over however. Thanks again!

/u/MartialArt, thanks for the suggestions! You're definitely right about needing to protect Ezuri more. I'll work some of those in! Thanks!

You can gain plenty of life with Spike Feeder, yes, but then your big creature goes small again. Ideally, you should be putting your experience counters on threats to swing with (or other value cards like Sage of Hours and Fathom Mage.) Your Essence Warden is a better source of lifegain. Spike Feeder's not bad, but when I think of all the targets you have for your experience counters, he's pretty far down the list. I've won games simply by beating people up with a huge Birds of Paradise. Spike Feeder doesn't have the same evasion going for it.

Thassa, God of the Sea is like the grease in the cogs of the deck. At three mana she drops early, gets around destruction effects, and again, makes any of your creatures unblockable. And when she becomes a creature, she can make herself unblockable. So much value for a 3-CMC card.

Great points, I agree completely!

June 8, 2016 6:47 a.m.

/u/Lion9, I like both of those cards, but as far as token generation goes, I think there are other in here that produce more for significantly less mana, thanks for the suggestions though!

I think you'll be happy with Thassa. She makes virtually any opening hand playable if she's in there.

Here's my Ezuri build if you want to see it. It's an elf deck, so it's a bit different from yours: Ezuri's Elves of Progress

I second the idea using Thassa, God of the Sea. Even if you have enough card draw its worth it being able to put sth away you dont want to draw and maybe draw sth else with your draw effects you want to draw. And evasion is always good. And I would recommend a Krosan Grip to be able to deal with artifacts and enchantments. If you have this one and Beast Within you have 2 answers to artifacts and enchantments. Seems good.

And for the lands. I reccomend using about 1/3 of the deck for them. A bit more on some decks. Looking at your mana curve and including that you dont really ramp I would recommend using 34. You should even consider cutting Thought Vessel. Its your only ramp and I don't think you will need the ability often. And even if you do there are way to less cards in here that make you get you hands on it. Either you use more cards with similar effect or you should cut this one for more offensiveness (or you include more ramp to get mana and thin out your deck).

NoSoyYucateco says... #19

Oh jeez. I just noticed how little ramp you have here. That's a big concern, especially since there are so many great creatures that can ramp you and give you experience counters at the same time. Farhaven Elf, Wood Elves (grabs your Breeding Pool), Sakura-Tribe Elder and Solemn Simulacrum are the first that come to mind. I personally would not recommend going any lower on lands than you are. I run 36 but I also run all of the above creatures to grab them for me.

As for what you might take out to put in some of these, I'd say Second Harvest (it's the definition of "win more"--you have tokens, you get more. You have no tokens, you get nothing.)

Darksteel Plate doesn't seem all that necessary. Simic is very resilient. It can survive having its creatures die. You have your Boots and Greaves to protect Ezuri--that's more than enough.

Parallel Lives can also probably go. This isn't a token deck so much as it's a counter deck. It's nice getting double tokens from Avenger of Zendikar, but necessary? Especially when you also have Doubling Season and Primal Vigor?

June 8, 2016 8:30 a.m.

you're right, Parallel lives is probably a bit excessive. I more-so have it for when I kill the token balloons like Chasm Skulker. I'll definitely modify this more after work to include some ramp. Thanks!

June 8, 2016 9:06 a.m.

Also, shouldn't the amount of card-draw in this deck help with ramp?

I have a different opinion on the protection of your commander. I think you should add more protection then you have atm.

And I dont recommend using your destroyers on your own creatures. Just send them against you enemies or sac them in your High Market or a Miren, the Moaning Well. You shouldn't help your opponents. Let them help you. And if you do this you make yourself more vulnerable against mass destruction in the process too. Just pump up the token balloons and send them for a swing. This should make your opponent do the work. With Thassa out they will surely kill them for you and you have your destroyers to deal with threads on the opponents side.

I hope this helped. Greets MA.

June 8, 2016 9:14 a.m.

With my token balloons, I don't think they yield tokens if they're sacrificed. On the cards it says destroyed. In previous playtests, I had to burst them myself. Perhaps I've been lucky, but I've never had to worry about destroying my token balloons, because if I'm at the point where I can comfortably do it, I've got loads of other creatures already on the field. I'll playtest more/less protection and see how it fares :)

June 8, 2016 9:38 a.m.

As for thought vessel, it's actually come in handy quite a few times. I'll load counters on a card-draw enabler, then drop that and draw 20+ cards at some points.
