Stumpboss, but why run helix when palm exists? By the way thanks for commenting, I've ruled that card oiut already.
(I wrote a forum article comparing the two, if you want to see it. http://tappedout.net/mtg-forum/modern-deck-help/making-a-case-for-deflecting-palm/)

Bovine073 Wow, you really sold me on using palm in that article XD. I need a playset now!!!!

I would consider Forked Bolt for your SB if you start to see more Eldrazi, and I would consider Sudden Shock for infect.
March 12, 2016 1:14 a.m.
Forked Bolt, I currently have it in my budget burn build with Hidetsugu's Second Rite. I do like it for its versitality, but I can't see it doing anything against Eldrazi that Searing Blaze doesn't do better already. Sure it can take out mimics, but that's about it due to the self-sac'ing scions and such. I think I already have enough hate for Eldrazi with the 4x Deflecting Palm and 2x Crumble to Dust SB.
As for Sudden Shock, I already have one SB. Once again, I already have a lot of hate on infect with Pyroclasm, palm, and well basically anything else that can target a creature.

I'm actually trying to decide Molten Rain or Crumble to Dust, just the 4 mana can be ridiculous.

Not sure if the Eldrazi have dominated your meta like they have mine, but Roast feels like a solid answer to them. Definitely worth some sideboard space imo.
March 15, 2016 2:14 a.m.
Good idea, there isn't really any Eldrazi in my meta (there's not much meta to begin with) because most people are expecting the ban hammer real soon.

Ehhhh... I'm not a huge fan of Deflecting Palm. How does it perform for you?
March 18, 2016 10:59 a.m.
TheGrayMerchant http://tappedout.net/mtg-forum/modern-deck-help/making-a-case-for-deflecting-palm/
Forum article I wrote defending deflecting palm. It is truly a great card, and is an amazing card in at least 50% of matches, and a game winner in 10%. Of course, this is with the rise of Eldrazi. If Eldrazi becomes far less prevelent, then there will be changes to the numbers of them in the deck.

I don't get the 4xEidolon of the Great Revel here. You've got 44 cards with converted mana cost 3 or less. You will kill yourself, take that card out ASAP bro
Cheers

I'd take it you don't play modern burn.
Eidolon is here because you are killing your opponent faster than you will kill yourself. Think of it, I Lightning Bolt and Lava Spike my opponent for 6 with eidolon out, I only take 4. Then on their turn, they play a 3-mana card and hit themself for 2.
Me: Lost 4 health
Them: Lost 8 health
Trust me, it works. Eidolon is here for a reason.

Oh, got it. I thought that maybe you'd missed the "whenever a player" mistaking it for "whenever an opponent", since I read you were "barely new" to MTG. You can update that state now, man, I've also just read your Helix vs Palm comparison and you probed your points very accurately. I like how your mind works at comparing situations and costs, that's the way to make it right!
April 7, 2016 2:28 a.m.
Thanks, Nordlys. Where did I say I was "barely new"? Is it on my profile? Lol.
April 7, 2016 4:23 a.m.
@Bovine073, yes sir.
Your profile says "I am a (relatively) new player to MTG". Time to update! :P
Keep up the good work sir, thumbs up!

You're running 8 cards mainboard that rely on your opponents decision's (Palm and Devil) and only 4 "cracks."
This will fly at a kitchen table, but its Jund/Affinity/Burn(NAYA)/Zoo food at an event.

Captain_MUD thanks for the comment. I have been giving palm some though, but I know that if I do SB any copies, it won't be for helix.
What do you mean the 4 "cracks"? I would have GGs instead of the devils but they're like 40$ a pop.

Meta aside, helix allows for a proactive gameplan in your MB. 4x Palm comes with the very large cost of making your Swiftspears a terrible card. Imagine a hand flooded with Palms with a swiftspear in play. Then imagine a hand flooded with 2-mana siege rhinos. Which one provides you with a clear line?
Your deck would work better with creatures like spark elemental, and hellspark elemental as they are good on their own and do not demand a proactive hand. But playing reactive cards, especially palm, and without fetches is seriously going to hinder your lavamancers and swiftspears.
My suggestion, if you are to keep your creature base, would be:
-4 palm mainboard
+2/4 shard volley for more bolts/swiftspear pump/lavamancer food
Or
+2 volley and 2 helix
Burn is a proactive deck, and only reactive post board against its bad matchups. Dont put yourself in that position game 1.
My 2 cents

Also, i dont really have many negative things to say about devil. I know theres a lot of hate out there the card, but its a damn fine budget burn card, especially in a deck that also plays boros charm.

Thanks, I really appreciate the critiques. All in all, I think yes, helix can help my deck more but palm kills other decks more, therefore helping me more (yeah, yeah proactive reactive I know I know lol) I had volley as a 1-of, I didn't really like it. If I were to take out a palm I would want to add in a blaze back in for more creature hate. I have been considering 19 lands as well, but not sure there. Trust me, I get tons of lavamancer food, I want to get another one.
Thanks Captain_MUD for the comment, I'll check out your deck as well :)
