Maybeboard

Rielle is a very interesting command that can be built a couple of different ways; either primarily as as a draw & discard deck or as a control deck (as seen by some of the cards in the maybeboard). I've built this deck primarily as a draw & discard deck since I find that to be more entertaining than playing hard control. This is one of the few decks I've owned where while the main point of the deck is to draw cards, it doesn't feel like I'm playing solitaire. Every card you play that hits the table has some effect that people end up interacting with in some way, and there are enough unique win-cons that people won't get bored with you recycling the same win-con 5 games in a row.

Unlike a lot of my other decks; I don't think Rielle needs much of a primer, since the gameplan is fairly simple. You simply get Rielle out as fast as possible; and start drawing and discarding cards. Since you end up drawing and discarding so many cards, but I would primarily start aiming for certain win-con pieces and building your gameplan as the game goes on. You don't need all of them at once, and hell, feel free to discard some of them since we have redundancies for situations where our pieces end up in the graveyard. I've tried to provide a list of some of the various win-cons you can access below.

Goal: Draw Cards & Discard Cards

Wincons:

After playing with this deck for quite a while now, I can say for certain that this has easily become one of my favorite decks to pilot. The deck can function relatively consistently even without Rielle, and really uses her as a gas-pedal that you press all the way down to make sure you can hit your discard combo pieces and start hitting your opponents for 20+ damage with Fateful Showdown or starting to ping them when you have to discard the 20+ cards you just drew because you kept drawing on other peoples turns. My personal favorite win-cons come about through using Tolarian Winds as it's just so much fun to get two hands for the price of one easy discard, and can set up your pieces really early on. The one small problem I've noticed is that rarely you'll get one of those games where even with Rielle you just don't draw into the draw/discard cards you need. Those games suck, but I've only had that happen once or twice in the whole time I've been piloting. Just give it a good shuffle, and get back to wheeling yourself.

[September 2021] Reille has remained a staple in my list of commander decks since the last update. Not many new updates have occurred as the deck itself is quite solid, and the maybe-board has remained relatively unchanged due to this. If you want to build a more competitive version of this deck, I would highly recommend the inclusion of the large number of tutors available in red/blue. Overall the deck is able to function without Rielle, albeit to a the detriment of less card draw, but if you need the right spell next turn or your playgroup tends to run decks that are a bit more consistent, toss a few search spells in and make everyone have a much worse time when you start going off just a little bit earlier.
