Sweet, I'll try removing one of each of those non-creatures, and maybe put in three Spell Rupture mainboard.
I'm not convinced about Varolz, the Scar-Striped in this deck. He clearly fits into the theme, but most of my other creatures have quite a bad power-to-CMC ratio. Other than Corpsejack Menace , Crowned Ceratok and Skylasher their power (and so the amount of counters I'd get from scavenging) is quite low compared to the scavenge cost. Having said that, I'm having second thoughts about Vorel of the Hull Clade so I'll try trading them out since they have the same CMC.
I may have just purchased a few Kalonian Hydra for this deck, it was too good a deal not to, so they're going to find their way in here without a doubt. (I've tried putting them in this deck on Cockatrice, it's a total game-ender if I have even one Corpsejack Menace out)
Also, I noticed your version of this deck, I'm flattered! (+1 for that) I see you've put in Syncopate and removed Farseek (I assume to keep this Theros-proof). I like it, I'll see how it goes if I take it in that sort of direction, thanks for your input!

Haha, yeah I really like your deck so I figured I may as well try and make something like it. Any suggestions would be great too, thanks! And I took some of the dual-lands out as well as the Farseek 's so the deck is like $50 cheaper and 100% rotation proof. With any luck, when Theros comes out we'll have some better cards to put in!

Also, I'm unsure as to whether naming my deck The Count Down (Rotation-Proof) is either too cheesy or just straight up dumb.

Haha totally, I'm only working with cards I have, so the odd dual-land ends up in here bringing up the total cost, I'd obviously like more of them, but it's hard to afford that!
The Count Down seems like a totally fine name to me, I'm not very good at coming up with names myself haha

Just ordered the main set of this deck, I plan to try it out in FNM within the next few weeks. Hopefully it works as well as I hope for a budget deck. Thanks again for making such an awesome deck!

Wow, sweet! Good luck man, thanks for showing so much interest in my favorite deck!

Just so you are aware, Farseek , Drowned Catacomb , and Woodland Cemetery will be rotating out. Other than that the deck looks pretty good.

Yeah, I know, but thanks for the heads up. I've covered it somewhere else on the page (not sure where) but Farseek will be replaced with any similar card that comes in Theros, or Manaweft Sliver
I'll just remove the lands now to make it simpler haha
Thanks

Quick question, in the description you mentioned using Cloudfin Raptor, what happened to him?
September 1, 2013 2:02 p.m.
MikeLaserbeam says... #11
I got rid of Cloudfin Raptor it really wasn't working. I know it's always good to have a turn 1 play, but more often than not I'd find it just wasn't pulling its weight. The best that can happen with a T1 Cloudfin Raptor is T2 Skylasher T3 Vorel of the Hull Clade and probably T4 Corpsejack Menace all in all that gives you a 4/5 flyer on turn 4, which isn't too shabby, but it very rarely seems to work like that. In testing I found that some games it would stay 0/1 until turn 4, which just makes it a waste of a card. Getting one late game is a total dud draw (it's entirely likely it could come out with something like 4 counters on it, but at that point I'd far rather something bigger)
By the way, I've noticed in your deck you've seriously increased the number of instants you have, interesting choice, I'm not sure I'd do the same but I'd like to hear how that goes!

That makes sense, Cloudfin Raptor isn't too great unless you're drawing it T1/T2. And yeah, I bought a whole bunch of extras incase that doesn't work, but I'm gonna toy around with instants and see what works better, (between straight up creature heavy or creatures and instants to help them out)

Nice idea, I've done a lot of toying with this deck for the whole time I've had it, and this is the form I've preferred the most, but there's definitely still room for improvement!

I've been wondering what this deck needs most and I've finally figured out that Razor Boomerang is the perfect fit. You should run 4x of them for maximum deck potential. The deck won't be Standard playable anymore, but it's a fair trade-off for such a OP card.

Oh, absolutely, I play this deck in Modern most of the time actually, using playsets Razor Boomerang , Chimney Imp and Storm Crow
Obviously I always win.

Banthony245 says... #16
In my opinion Chimney Imp is a bit overpowered. Because when it gets put into the graveyard, target player puts a card from his hand on top of his library. There's so much practicality to that. I mean running one, let alone four is pretty much an instant win in itself.

I would switch out at least 2 manaweft slivers for 2 gyre sages, they will provide massive amounts of mana.
September 5, 2013 1:23 p.m.
MikeLaserbeam says... #18
Gyre Sage was in here very recently, but it didn't work. Manaweft Sliver is there to act as a Farseek replacement, to allow me to play my huge number of 4-drops on T3. Gyre Sage doesn't do that, and I always end up with about 10 green mana an nothing to spend it on.
Having said that, thanks for the advice anyway!
September 5, 2013 4:15 p.m.
since you're playing a green and blue deck might i suggest Experiment Kraj ? if you think the 6 mana is too much maybe add Iwamori of the Open Fist or Elvish Piper ? you would gain massive card advantage as well as massive creatures with ease

I'm afraid Banthony245 is right, those cards aren't in standard, and this deck isn't modern. I appreciate the suggestions though, just a shame they can't go in this deck
September 6, 2013 4:03 p.m.
@bathony245: what are you talking about, the entire deck is standard, and post rotation.
I couldn't agree more with the first sentence of the description, he is my favorite card ever.

Oh shit sorry I thought you were talking about the deck

Haha easy mistake to make!
Yeah, Master Biomancer is the king. I saw him on Gatecrash spoilers and thought he looked awesome, had so many ideas for decks with him, then pulled him literally the next day in my first Gatecrash booster. This deck was destined to be. Haha

Thanks for the fast response! And as much as I'd love to give advise, I've only been playing Magic for two months, so my MTG knowledge is pretty lackluster in comparison to yours likely; but I'll try anyway. So being that this is a creature deck, maybe take out two Farseek 's and one Golgari Charm , or one of each Farseek , Golgari Charm , and Putrefy , so you could potentially have 25 creatures, as it would better fit the Heavy Creature Heavy (Rotation-Proof) name. Also, I showed this deck-list to some people at FNM and they said Varolz, the Scar-Striped was a decent card for mainboard and that the deck needed better counter-spells: I.E Syncopate , or another Spell Rupture . But that's just my two-cents, hopefully it helps in some way.
