Feather, the Redeemed Combo

Commander / EDH Equip RW (Boros)

IzzWizz

Maybeboard

This started as a higher power non-cEDH deck based on darkviews list found on moxfield. I’ve since added most of the tutors and fast mana found in the cEDH builds. This deck list focuses on multiple over-lapping combo lines with some light stax pieces. With the right tutors, you have surprisingly good interaction on the stack (Deflecting Swat and Pyroblast) and board control (Reckless Rage).

  • Feather, the Redeemed the deck can function without it, but you'll have a much easier time winning if you can keep this in play. Some combos require her to be in play. You want your cantrips to be able to protect her.

  • Sunforger the decks consistency revolves around this card. It’s also capable of assembling game winning combo lines all on its own. Fortunately, we have several ways to tutor it up and recur it if (when) it gets destroyed.

  • Mistveil Plains helps consistency by recycling cards that were countered or played when feather wasn't out for later Sunforger activations.

Cast Twinflame, hold priority and cast Dualcaster Mage. Copy the twinflame targeting Dualcaster Mage. The copy of twinflame resolves, creating a dualcaster token. Loop for infinite hasty 2/2s. You can also use Heat Shimmer for redundancy.
  • (requires 7 mana and 7 artifacts under opponents control) Cast Cloudshift targeting Dockside Extortionist, hold priority and cast Reiterate (with buyback) targeting Cloudshift. Let reiterate resolve, have the Cloudshift copy target Dockside Extortionist. Cloudshift copy resolves, flickering Dockside Extortionist and creating Treasure tokens. Loop for infinite mana.

  • You can also use Acrobatic Maneuver if you can get to 9 mana to draw your deck. If you can't find any other outlet, use the infinite mana to cast Boros Charm infinite times using the same reiterate loop.

  • Cloudstone Curio and Dockside Extortionist can generate infinite mana with any other creature if your opponents have sufficient artifacts/enchantments.

  • Grinding Station + Underworld Breach is the most tutorable combo in the entire deck, capable of being assembled off a single Gamble, Enlightened Tutor, or even Fervent Mastery (detailed in a different section). These two cards go infinite with any mana positive/neutral rock. This is a very powerful interaction as it’s essentially a 4 mana A + B combo, given a high enough density of mana positive/neutral artifacts.

  • Tap your rock for mana, sacrifice it to grindstone targeting yourself with the mill ability. replay the mana rock with Underworld Breach. Repeat until you can cast a game winning combo from your graveyard.

  • Eventually it will be beneficial to 'upgrade' the rock being used until Dockside Extortionist is found, which will net mana and Breach fuel by utilizing a blink spell as the new escaped spell. From there you can pivot into Dockside-Curio loops or Dualcaster Mage combos

  • The bare minimum safe number of cards in graveyard to start this from to avoid needing to exile an important piece when looping is 4. This allows you to eventually get to Dockside, a blink spell, Dualcaster, and a copy spell in the graveyard if needed.

  • As alluded to before Sunforger isn't just an engine, it also can be used assemble game winning lines. The mana requirement can be high but is quite variable based on what other permanents are already on board. Initial requirements (outside of mana) are to have Sunforger and Feather in play.

  • Activate Sunforger, casting Magnetic Theft, re-equipping Sunforger to any creature. Activate Sunforger and cast any cantrip. At the end Step, the cantrip and Theft are returned to hand. Cast Theft to re-equip Sunforger to any creature (you'll get it back next End Step).

  • Opponent A's turn: 2nd Main Phase, activate Sunforger and cast another cantrip. At the end step, return the cantrip and Theft to hand. Cast Theft, re-equipping Sunforger to a creature.

  • Opponent B's turn: Activate Sunforger and cast Englightened Tutor, tutoring for Underworld Breach. At the end Step, Theft is returned to hand.

  • There is no need for action on opponent C's turn.Aactivate Sunforger here if desired/needed. Moving to your next turn...

  • Cast Underworld Breach. Escape Enlightened Tutor, tutoring for Grinding Station. Cast a cantrip to draw Grinding Station. Cast Grinding Station. From here, you can go into Station Breach loops to assemble one of the wincons described earlier in the primer. If needed, you have access to another tutor for a mana rock to have a mana positive loop while milling the deck with Station.

Fervent Mastery is a single card that can be used to pivot into any wincon in the deck via Underworld Breach, Lion's Eye Diamond, and card: Sevine’s Reclamation lines. The lines are modular based on which cards are discarded during the resolution, so this section is quite lengthy. They all converge on an end state that lets you use Breach to find whatever line you need to win at that point.

Case 1: Keeping at least LED. Additional Requirements: 1 colorless and 1 white mana Cast LED, crack for WWW (WWW) Flashback Sev Rec, targeting Breach and LED (W) Escape LED, crack for RRR x2 (WRRRRRR) Proceed to Finish

Case 2: Discard LED, Keep Breach, Additional Requirements: 1 colorless and 1 red mana Cast Underworld Breach Escape LED, crack for RRR. x3 (RRRRRRRRR) Proceed to Finish

Case 3: Discard Breach, Keep Sev Rec and LED, Additional Requirements: 2 colorless and 1 white mana Cast Sev Rec, targetting Breach Cast LED, crack for RRR (RRR) Escape LED, crack for RRR. x2 (RRRRRRRRR) Proceed to Finish

Case 4: Discard Breach and LED, Keep Sev Rec, Additional Requirements: 2 colorless and 1 white mana Cast Sev Rec, targetting Breach Escape LED, crack for RRR. x3 (RRRRRRRRR) Proceed to Finish

Case 5: Discard all 3, Additional Requirements: 4 colorless and 1 white mana Flashback Sev Rec, target LED and Breach Crack LED for RRR (RRR) Escape LED, crack for RRR. x2 (RRRRRRRRR) Proceed to Finish

Finish (This is just one example, there are several ways to win from here based on gamestate) Escape Fervent Master, find Grinding Station, Dockside, and Cloudshift. Escape Grinding Station. Activate Grinding Station to mill yourself. Escape LED, Grinding Station untaps, Crack LED for RRR. Escape Dockside, assuming it makes at least 3 treasures. Grinding Station has 3+ untap triggers on the stack. From here, you can repeatedly Cloudshift the Dockside and activate Grinding Station multiple times per Cloudshift, which will net you mana and cards in the graveyard. Finish with whatever combo you want.

This combo seeks to use Magda, Brazen Outlaw + Dockside Extortionist to tutor for Cloudstone Curio and then pivot into one of the possible lines described in the Dockside Loops section. There are two ways to create outlets for this line from just Magda and Dockside in play: Sunforger and Grinding Station.

  • Sunforger Method: Activate Magda, sacrificing 5 Treasures, to find Curio. Using any other creature to trigger Curio, perform Dockside-Curio loop to generate infinite Treasures. Activate Magda to find Sunforger. Equip Sunforger to a creature, then activate Sunforger to find and cast Magnetic Theft, re-equiping Sunforger. Move to End Step, Theft will return to hand. In End Step, unequip Sunforger to find and cast the outlet spell of choice. Currently this is Boros Charm. With Boros charm on the stack, hold priority and cast Theft to re-equip Sunforger again. Still holding priority, activate Sunforger to find and cast Reiterate. Use the Buyback to copy charm as many times as necessary to win.

  • Grinding Station Method: Activate Magda, sacrificing 5 Treasures to find Curio. Using another creature to trigger Curio, perform Dockside-Curio loop to generate infinite Treasures. Activate Magda, finding Grinding Station. Restart the Dockside loops to repeatedly untap Station and mill the table out.

  • Notes: If there is not another creature in hand, Feather can't be cast/is already in play, and no blink spell available, Goldspan Dragon is tutorable with an additional 5 Treasures in play via Magda and will kickstart the loop (as a bonus, it's functionally a 1-drop for Dockside-Curio loops so you only need to be making 4 Treasures to loop).

  • At any point during the Sunforger line where you have Sunforger in play you can tutor for every instant in the deck. This likely won't be necessary but it's important to know if it comes up.

  • You can use Grinding Station on yourself to go into Underworld Breach lines if needed, assembling infinite Treasure outlets that way, or pivoting to Dualcaster Mage combos.

There are several other combos that the list can include that I'm not going to cover here, since I'm not using them. Most (if not all) of the combo pieces currently in the deck are either individually powerful on their own without having to rely on the other combo pieces to be useful, overlap with other combo lines, or both. Other combos are possible, but the individual pieces are less useful without their counterpart to complete the combo. An example of this is Heliod, Sun-Crowned + Walking Ballista. It's a cheap 2 card combo, the issue is neither fit with our game plan as well as our combos. It also doesn't overlap with any existing combo pieces.
  • If you have Young Pyromancer or Monastery Mentor (and one token already on the battlefield) out you can use Path to Exile to ramp yourself every turn for W.

  • You can pay for the buyback on Reiterate if you cast it for free off a sunforger activation.

  • You can target one of your own (non-blue) creatures with Pyroblast. Handy to get off of sunforger if you want this in your hand and have nothing else to do with the mana this turn. You can also target feather the redeemed (or any other creature, so long as feather is in play) with pyroblast to save the card from getting wheeled.

  • Grabbing Magnetic Theft off a sunforger activation to start a combo loop, or just whenever you have extra mana available is good value play (so long as feather is in play). It will save you 2 mana for each sunforger activation thereafter.
