Crackling Doom is really good removal, especially against pesky hexproof midrange creatures like Prognostic Sphinx and Reaper of the Wilds . I would definitely suggest a full 4 in the sideboard if you can't find room in the mainboard.

Just want to put it out there. People like creative decks. They like new concepts. This appeals to me. I'd put Dictate of Erebos back in here, since it allows for some funny shenanigans.

Thanks, Codeman702 for pointing that out... I'd looked at Crackling Doom , but just glossed over it. You're totally right about it being good for my sideboard at least. I'll think about where to fit it in.

Scorprix, that really means a lot to me. I really enjoy trying to do things other people haven't done before. I'm sure there are people out there with the same turn five win, but the midrange strategy is what's most fun with this deck- and I haven't seen anyone do it before. As for Dictate of Erebos , I thought about it- and I might return to it if this deck doesn't work the way I want it to. I'm not a huge fan of the 5CMC attached to the card.

Shouldn't there be some burn spells in here?

Defpotec says... #5

Well... I thought Mardu Charm 's ability covered any burn I needed. Dunno. I don't want to put any cards in just because "it's what you do". I'd like each card to have its place. Does this deck need more burn? Can I add it without diluting the deck?

rocklobsterfinn, what do you think would strengthen this deck against control? I'm open to suggestions.

tyforthevenom, after playtesting an incomplete version of this deck (cards are still on their way in the mail), I found that Tormented Thoughts didnt do what I wanted it to do. I'm putting Crackling Doom in my main and Tormented Thoughts in my sideboard and considering alternatives. Crackling Doom makes for a good answer to a lot of the aggro I've been seeing lately.

Love it. Maybe Goblin Rabblemaster ?? Idk tho, I really like it as it is. There is also something similar to act of treason but with strive. I can't remember the name off the top of my head but it should be in here

Thanks, nutellaisgreaterthanlife! I think Harness by Force is what you're thinking of. I didn't like it because of the RR cost.

Athreos, God of Passage works against you a bit because unless they pay life you sacrificing their creature means they get it back in hand

Defpotec says... #13

Athreos, God of Passage only checks ownership... Otherwise it would be a pretty bad choice in this deck.

Cloud_AT says... #14

Athreos' ability is a real blast against any opponent, because it makes any removal/block a real tough choice, but there are lots of outs to bypass this choice like Banishing Light , Suspension Field , Abzan Charm or anything else exiling a creature as well as counterspells ...

tyforthevenom says... #15

there is a large amount of exile in standard right now

Oh, man, if you were willing to go with some blue instead of straight Mardu (though I understand it's necessary with Butcher and co.), Daring Thief would be hilarious, especially with Athreos and some burn or return-to-hand effects.

I'd recommend Herald of Torment over Master of the Feast as most of the time you'll find people will kill it after getting the free card draw.

shinobigarth says... #19

lots of people like Master of the Feast at first glance, until that extra free card allows their opponent to find their win con faster, or just plain removal to get rid of him.

My original version had Tymaret, the Murder King, but I found him to be too slow. He really looked like a good option but I never had him work in actual gameplay.

December 23, 2014 6:06 p.m.

shinobigarth says... #23

yeah Tymaret works better in a midrange version of this deck

nightfire1177 says... #24

I had agro mardu beat the living shit out of green stomp had tyramet worked great burn baby burn but when you have to much white its a problem you use ty for 2 reasons the burn yes but like bloodsoak you can put it back in play fast from grave and its a 2/2 that can blockthink about its 2nd ability not just the 1st no creatures in hand put ty on top of library n draw next sac it to butcher why not u can recast next turn and attack n bring back bloodsoak ty is a great card but I suggest only running 2 and 1 in side legendary 4 is just too many

nightfire1177 says... #25

also in addition add utter end or even murderous cut cant stop a pro white dragon with your chanined and banish nor the butcher yeah master can till its monster sized but if they get rid of it you are screwed just an idea for more competative
